That, sir and madam, is fucking disgusting. Disgusting meaning awesome, of course.

During the construction process, I remember you saying that it would make anyone who enters it sport wood. I believe it. If wood isn't present then your head has most likely exploded from the awesomeness.

I salute you both.

I like how the name of the page is "credit card debt" LOL

That's incredible. Mostly because I have no fucking clue how long it possibly could have taken you to figure out a space-efficient way of displaying all that.

Is Star Trek V any good?

Wow... o_O I don't know how you'd even collect for a collection like that. Do you just buy anything and everything? I can't even really discern any personal tastes from it. It's just such a massive variety of stuff.

Hmm, yes, I definitely see a prevalent motif trying to break through here. But it seems to be missing something. Perhaps you can try adding some video games.

Portnoyd, I remember around a month ago you saying you would take pics, because you collection had really grown since the old pics on your website, but holy crap man, you weren't kidding! Definately one of the most insane collections I have ever seen online. I wouldn't even know where to start if I wanted to play a game. It must be nice.

Amazing work guys!

You may have to expand into a second room -- I'd move the smaller collections and the misc stuff into a second room to make more room in the 'main' room. Plus with the space freed up you could get a nice large HDTV in there to do your gaming on. :D

Still, I'm REALLY impressed. @_@

This is what happens, folks, when two nerds with huge collections get together. ;) :P

awesome pictures, worth the load time for true. glad to know i helped add a few things to that room, even if it's only a random ass tshirt (mario plumbing if i remember) and a box for the genesis version of virtua fighter, and one thing i can't find in any of the pictures.... the jade empire water bottle! (of course, it's probably easy to miss somewhere in that monstrosity. heh)

Okay, I know I haven't been around as much since January, but clearly I'm missing something here.

Last time I knew, didn't Port live at home and his collection was stuffed in his room?

Am I crazy, or did I read that Achika lived in NYC with her boyfriend (NOT Port)?

When did all of this take place?

I feel like I've been on Safari for a few years...

Very cool, nonetheless!

When you have two collector junkies combine their hoards of cool shit - man, just look at the results!

Most excellent indeed.

Now I must find me a mistress with a similarly sized collection...

Peace,
Steve

Thanks everyone ^^

We had a bit of overlapping stuff, most of it is stored in our laundry room. Mostly the Genesis, NES were of course overlapping, but the rest were odds and ends; a few SNES here, a couple SMS there.

We've been dating for about a year, we finally moved into our place in mid July. As many of you know, I am a fiend for promotional material (and as Perkar pointed out, something is missing) I have buckets full of glasses, clocks, waterbottles, office supplies, etc. with game logos on them, I just need to sit down and figure out what can be displayed and where. Also missing are the GTA: Vice City standee that so many of you asked me about and my SC5 standee. We need to fish those out of my studio and see if we have the floor space (something tells me we probably won't...)

There *is* another gameroom in our house. It's in the basement, where we keep the arcade cabinets (haha butta.) We haven't worked on it much aside from getting the cabs in there, so I think that is why Port didn't show the pictures I took. So far we have a few redemption machines (some that will be set to free play so people can win prizes during our game nights) Blades of Steel, Dragon Spirit, Capcom Bowling, Neo Geo (2 slot, about 45 games though) and Xenophobe. We will probably put overflow promo-posters and the bigger stuff downstairs.

Okay, NOW, I'm envious. O_O I'd kill for a Dragon Spirit arcade cab.

If you don't mind me asking, how old are the two of you? Did both of you amass a huge collection quickly, or was it just slowly growing over years and years?

I went through the whole collection combining myself when I hooked up with my boyfriend. However, he's not really a collector. He just buys whatever he's interested in playing. He doesn't get into the whole hunting thing, but sometimes he gets excited over the prospect of finding something great like a $1 Neo Geo AES or such. :P I can't recall how many games we had when we first got together when we were around 19 and 20, but now, four years later, we're over 600. Nothing compared to that collection, but it makes me curious how large our collection will be by the time I hit 30. o_O[/b]

Yeah, It's totally functional, but I'm not happy with it enough to show it. I want to get appropriate carpeting (it's bare concrete), more machines, and better lighting. And that all requires money, which we just spent a lot of to get the game room where it's at. So we're in a cooldown phase of home decorating. :)

Individual replies...

@uber: Star Trek 5 sucks. There was a reason why it was quietly canned. But you'll be able to play it sometime down the road. And maybe, just maybe. More VIS.

@Aussie2B: Yes. I use a PDA to make sure I don't buy stuff I already have.

@DP: Going to put the pics into vgc.com/gallery tonight. Was too pooped to do anything after editing the pics down.

@captain nintendo: When I have money or trade stuff, I will do just that. :)

@grandmachandler: To elaborate on what Achi said, we have a master of list of whose stuff is whose. On complete collections, one stored their games while one displayed the complete set they had. But other systems, we wrote up the titles we supplied.

@qbertandernie: Ask nesman85 :) I got it from him. It's some sort of weird development tool... definitely prototype-ish. It stands for Chuck's Excellent Art Tool Animator. Very, very weird.

@Aussie2B (#2): I'm 26, she's 23. We both amassed over time, so points quickly, so points slowly. I'm not exactly sure when Achi started, but I started back in 1999.

Unless you're loaded, these collections don't just appear in a week's time. Just keep at it, and you'll see. Before I moved out, I did a comprehensive inventory of my stuff. I was expecting to just pass 2500 games. When I finished, I actually was 50 shy of 3000! @_@ Like I said... over time. ;)

Thanks for all the compliments!

It does, but in all fairness, I made that directory almost 4 years ago. I got wrangled in in college, and I haven't used them for games since then. Bad bad things they are. The only time I ever use them is for hotel stays (Hotels + debit cards = suck).

Aussie2B
09-28-2005, 05:27 PM
I recommend tiles for the basement. I live in a basement apartment, and that's what we have for every room and hall. Between the fluctuating temperatures and potential for bugs, carpeting just isn't so great for a basement. Plus, once the city didn't maintain the street's pipes, so we had some flooding. It was just a thin layer of water, but we would've been in a world of hurt if we had carpeting. We just use large floor rugs where needed.

If I were you two, I'd just sell off the duplicate games. My boyfriend and I have gotten rid of nearly all of our duplicates. Well, unless you're worried that at some point you'll have to split up the collection. ;) You could put the extra money towards making your collection even huger, but judging by your young ages and the size of the collection, I'm guessing neither of you is at a want for cash. :P

On the contrary, I recommend a gaming pre-nup. Keep track of what is whos. Most relationships end, so there's no point pretending it's impossible. More importantly, since you guys seem destined to be together, it will be irrelevant, but could prevent even a small squabble.

"That's my NWC cart."

"No, that's mine!"

ok, thx to s1lence for sending me the pics, appreciated!!

i can only say WOW, you "guys" have an amazing collection, and you've got some really rare stuff in there (Blockbuster Champ Genesis :eek 2: ) and some nice ideas too

just a little note, i wouldn't place the snes stuff like that, i would "lay" the games, cause, those inner boxed don't hold the "downwards pressure" of a cart too well :/

amazing, just amazing :)
