I get them quite a bit, but this one is seriously tricky ... I'd never seen this one before

At the moment, I didnt have any open auctions on ebay, I got one of those ask a question emails wanting to know how to pay for an item with the "respond now" button, which of course wants you to log in. The username is someone who is no longer a registered user

It looks seriously real, but if you look at the link on that respond now button, its going to somewhere in the UK

These may not be new, so forgive me if you've seen them before, but it looks totally real, so I recommend never answering any of those emails unless you are actuall on Ebay's Site

I actually fell for this. I realized it right away and changed my password. The one I feel for was very similar. What they did was ask a question about a item I was selling. I was selling quite a few things at the time, so it seemed legit. The only thing that was different was that they didn't say what item number or what the item was. So I signed in trying to respond to what seemed like a legit question, but the site didn't do anything after I loged in. So I figured it was fake and I changed my password right away.

I got one the other day, something about how I was invited to be a Power Seller and I needed to log in to confirm the upgrade. The email seemed legit, but I didn't actually think I had sold enough to be a Power Seller. I hopped on eBay, checked out the guidelines, and sure enough, I wasn't really eligible. I was close though. That was one of the more impressive fake emails I've seen in my day.

Man, thanks for the heads-up. That really is a tricky one and I could see peeps falling for it.

By the way, I passed this along to Ebay, and they were soooo helpful

"you have recieved a fake email, do not respond to it" blah blah blah LOL

I've decided telling them about any fakes is pretty much useless

I got a couple weird ebay emails a couple weeks ago. One said that if I didn't update my Ebay profile, then my account would be terminated. Another stated the exact same thing, only this time it had to do with my Paypal account. Both emails provided a link where you could "sign in" to your account. I was pretty skeptical about it so I signed into each account the regular way and there wasn't anything stating my account was going to be terminated. Besides I haven't updated anything since, and the accounts still work!
