hello, im bored so i have decided to attempt to list every rpg i can think of. i was wondering if others could contribute to this list by either telling me games i don't have on it yet or yelling at me for putting a game on there that isn't an rpg or any other way to improve it. im not listing japanese or european games, but i am listing a game multiple times if it is available for different consoles or if there are different versions like greatest hits or special edition. so yeah, this is what i have so far:

Though Mother 2 is Earthbound.
Does the metal gear series count? You do get things and progress on. Resident evil series? Same gain and grow policy.

I think he means RPG in the typical guide the actions, don't perform them sense.
Don't forget Golden Sun and Golden Sun - The Lost Age for Gameboy Advance!
Definitely a bunch of games missing from that list, but it's a good start. Here's a few I can remember off the top of my head:
Crystalis - NES
Paladin's Quest - SNES
Illusion of Gaia - SNEs
Soul Blazer - SNES
Terranigma - SNES
Faxandu - NES
Not sure if the zelda series was considered RPG's, but if so:
The Legend of Zelda - NES
Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link - NES
The Legend of Zelda: LTTP - SNES

It would likely be far easier to break it down by system, and it's been done time and again. Here's the rundown:
SNES:
7th Saga
Act Raiser 1 and 2
AD&D Eye of the Beholder
Breath of Fire 1 & 2
Chrono Trigger
Dragon View
Drakkhen
EarthBound

Harvest Moon
Illusion of Gaia
Lord of the rings
Lagoon
Legend Of Zelda: LttP
Lufia 1 & 2
Ogre Battle

Secret of Evermore
Secret of Mana
Shadowrun
Soul Blazer
Super Mario RPG
Ultima VI, VII
UnCharted Waters 1, 2
Utopia
Wizardry V
Y'S III
That looks small. I think I'm missing a bunch.

This list sucks. I know theres an assload more.
GB:

Final Fantasy Adventure
Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening
This list really sucks.
EDIT: I realize why the GB/GBC lists suck. I hate Pokemon.
And I don't know a damn thing about sega consoles, so I couldn't be too much help there. Do a search, I know theres a list for Genesis out there somewhere, and the Saturn has a crapload of great RPG's, but I couldn't name them.

This is going to be one huge list. I assume you want just console games, not computer (whether it be PC, Amiga, Spectrum etc)?

I see two mentions of Bard's Tale for PS2. For you young whippersnappers, Bard's Tale was a game before that, ya know. It was released for the NES. The new one is also available for the Xbox.
Another one I always liiked was The Faery Tale Adventure (Genesis).
There are a ton of Ultima games out there for the NES, GB/C/A, FM Towns, SMS, and more. Someone who needs the meseta more than I can go dig up all the names.
Magi Nation (GBC)
Great Greed (GB)
Lufia and the Fortress of Doom (SNES)
Lufia 2 (SNES)
Lufia: The Legend Returns (GBC)
Lufia: Runes of Lore (GBA)
Sigma Star Saga (kind of)(GBA)

LOL. Looks like you are a young whippersnapper as well. Bard's Tale was originally released on the Apple IIe and Commodore 64 in 1985. It wasn't released for the NES until 1991.

I was going to pipe up and say that it was released on the Spectrum around the same time too but for some reason it was actually released three years later. I could probably still find my way round the Skara Brae map to this day. I remember being rather gutted when I found that my tape 2 was just another tape 1 and that I could play no further! :(

There's an easier way to do this:
1. Go to GameFAQs.
2. Go to your console of choice.
3. Click on "Role-Playing" under Category/Genre.
Ta-da! The list might not be 100% accurate, but it's certainly better than wracking your brain over it. Plus, it usually has Japan-exclusives in there as well.

Cardfighters Clash, both SNK and Capcom editions (NGPC)
Maybe Dark Arms (NGPC)?
If tactics titles count, then would Faselei! (NGPC) count as well?
And I would take out Chocobo Racing, I thought it was just a racing title. I very well could be wrong though.

well, i've updated again. the list is aloooooot longer now and more organized. obviously i don't have all the rpgs there are, but i'm getting closer. i would love more help from people with additional games i missed. but if you do decide to help, check my list before you post a game to make sure it's not there. thank you! :D

I haven't read the whole thread to see if someone else mentioned this, but AD&D: DragonStrike for NES is an overhead shmup.

Many non-RPG's in that list. I won't begin a discussion about Zelda, but Solstice a RPG? Shadowgate? Maniac Mansion?

i know they arn't exactlt rpgs, but they have an rpg quality to them, don't you think? should i remove them then..?

In my experience, attempts to make lists like this inevitably devolve into heated debates about just what an RPG is or isn't.

I cheated and posted the index I created for my rom list. So there's a few fantasy themed point and clicks thrown in too. Ad for Dragon Strike it's on there for because it's based on an RPG license.
Solstice I count, it's in the same dungeon crawling hack & slash vein as CastleQuest, ICO, and The Immortal. All of which I include in my collection.

Battletech The Cresent Hawk's Inception (C-64)..well, it says RPG on the box
Well Battletech was a pen and paper RPG by FASA, the company responsible for Shadowrun long before it bacame this big license for computer Mech shooters. Although even the original was mostly just battles, my brother used to play it alot.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Genghis Khan, Nonbunaga's? Yeah those are all Strategy games.
But Koei has put out a few real RPGs. Mainly Uncharted Waters and Inindo.
