View Full Version : Do [Moved] Topics Annoy You?

Just saw someone whining about this, I never considered that it might be a nuisance. There are two reasons why you might see a topic show as "[Moved]":

1. When we don't want the original poster to think it was deleted - they see where their post went and it's also a bit of a training exercise, notifying that it was in the wrong place.

2. The "Classic" topics are moved and leave behind "[Moved]" as well, this is so that people who visit just once in awhile - or for the first time - might get to see some of the topics that I feel should NEVER truly disappear.

FYI, the indicator [Moved] is completely optional, and on many occasions we DON'T use it. Again, only for the reasons stated above.

With that said, does this "bother" you?

I wasn't freaking whining!

I mean seriously there's no need for the [Moved] Topic's to remain in the forum it was moved from.
All it does is get bumped up in the other forum thereby pushing good ON TOPIC threads down.

I can see why people think they are annoying. I dont really care much, but i hate having to go back into the vg forum using the scroll bar at the bottom. But seriously though, what the hell are in these damn pretzels!?!?!?!? :/ :/ :/

If the "Moved" post in the forum it was originally posted in gets replied to, does it get moved to the top of both forums? I don't think it should. Even if a thread is very active in it's proper forum, it should eventually disappear from the forum it was moved from. Does that make sense? :/

If the "Moved" topics originate from the Classic Forum, then I have no problem with them. I like classic topics, it's like visiting history. Topics that are just in the wrong forum, I can do without. If someone posts something that should be in the Off-Topic forum, and I continue to see it in the main gaming forum, then it irritates.

Here's an idea. If somebody responds to a classic forum topic, is it possible to label as it 'classic' instead of 'moved'? Everyone who comes to the main gaming forum appreciates the classic threads anyway. Too see 'classic' instead of 'moved' keeps the whole 'retro' theme going.

Just a suggestion. :-D

Yes, it does get moved in both forums. That's the main reason (the only?) I find moved topics annoying. If you chose to leave the "MOVED" option on, then you're haunted by it every time someone posts on the thread in the new forum you moved it to. Unless you leave the "moved" heading for a while, and then go back and delete it after a bit.
I think it's a decent idea to use it in the gaming forum, just because it brings to light threads people may not have seen/known were there, but after a while, having ten "moved" headings in the topics is pretty annoying.
