View Full Version : Question about 1st Generation P$2 Units

Was the firewire port built into first-generation P$2 units ever supported by any software? People could use the P$s's USB ports to hook up USB mice for use with the scant number of games that feature USB mouse support, but I've never heard of any P$2 game which supports the devices you can hook up to a firewire port.

Is it possible to use the firewire port to hook up a hard drive, rather than having to buy $ony's HD?

Is it possible to hook up a video camera to the P$2's firewire port, rather than havign to buy $ony's proprietary webcam?

I think you could try to use it. My understanding is that it was never used on any release and that it is one of the unused pieces of the system. The current OPM had an article with that information.

Wasn't it used as a system link on some games? I have never used it myself, but a guy I used to work with mentioned using it for multiplayer gaming.

Also, is p$2 and $ony the new M$?

I suppose, but I can't think of many pre-online P$2 games which featured network play (The Timesplitters series is an exception).

"Girl you know its true" :P

Gran Tourismo 3 supports it. I'm not sure about any others though.

Time Crisis 2 and 3
Silent Scope 2
Unreal Tournament
Possibly one of the Time Splitters games

There were probably a couple others, but that's all that comes to mine.

please stop replacing the S in company names with a dollar sign. It's not funny, clever, or new. all companies are out to make money, its the only reason they're around.

Admit it, you're just upset there's no 's' in Nintendo. ;-)

Maybe we'll have to do Nint€ndo instead.

In what way do those games support firewire? In terms of forging a network?

It has to be funny, clever, or new to be "worthwhile" according to you? :/

I realise that all companies are out to make money - I understand the concept behind corporations. I associate the dollar sign with $ony for reasons which are more specific and less selective than the fact that $ony tries to make money.

Multiplayer.

Here's a list gathered a while back. It took a while to find via the search, but I found it.

Armored Core 2
Armored Core 2: Another Age
Armored Core 3
ATV Offroad Fury 2
Gran Turismo 3
Lethal Skies II
Silent Scope 2: Dark Silhouette
TimeSplitters 2
Time Crisis 2
Time Crisis 3
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3
Unreal Tournament
Vampire Night

I can't verify every one of those works on i.link, since checking for a definitive list online was a fruitless endeavor.

Gran Turismo 3 was unique; you could i.link 3 consoles together, with 3 TVs set up in panorama fashion, and run the game utilizing all 3 screens. I never got to try it, but it looked like a ton of fun.

What's your reason then? You try defending yourself, and you don't even say why you do that. I think Nintendo is more guilty of making money than Sony. Hey, let's make another GB! Ya, this can fold like a cellphone. No! Make it small. Gentleman, gentleman, we'll make both!

I agree, all the companies are trying to make money,

Nintendo is just like Sony as Sony is just like Microsoft trying to make Money.

so anyone that says different is just lying.

By using a firewire/iLink/IEEE 1394 hub, you hook the consoles in and it communicates through that. I don't know if you can go directly between two consoles, but 3 (or more?) communicate in such a way.

Before you came along, no one seemed to care what reason was since they all had an assumption in mind. People simply assumed that I associated "$" with Sony because I somehow selectively target them for being a corporation.

I cannot think of one perfect game company. Can YOU? ;)

So using the firewire port, I could conceivably play a two player game of Time Crisis 3 using two separate ps2s and tvs like the LAN adapter that the Nintendo Gamecube has?

"Before you came along, no one seemed to care what reason was since they all had an assumption in mind. People simply assumed that I associated "$" with Sony because I somehow selectively target them for being a corporation."

Why don't you just call it by the correct name or abbreviation instead of making up your own annoying ones?

Matt-El:

That's the general idea, yes. Stick Time Crisis 2 or 3 into both PS2s, hook them together with a 4-pin to 4-pin firewire cable, and presto, you can play with two screens just like the arcade version.
