View Full Version : If you could keep only one system...

I did a search multiple time of the subject, it told me bytes exhausted... So am I and here's the post.

If it was mandated, you must only keep one system... What would be your game system of choice? It can be old school, middle school, new school (can't be XBOX 360, PS3 or N Revolution).

EDIT 10-01-05
Wasn't trying to sway the poll. I included PS, PS1 and XBOX.
The site was getting flaky with me posting. I would try to post and it would not go through. The following is a sample of the messages I was getting (after the post went through, I couldn't even access anything other than the mian page. I wasn't able to preview the post, how the options got ditched? I don't know. So save the conspiracy theories and the bad poll comments :P .

Here's the error message sample I got repeatedly....
Warning: main(): SAFE MODE Restriction in effect. The script whose uid is 503 is not allowed to access ./language/lang_english/lang_weblog_main.php owned by uid 0 in /var/www/html/forum/includes/page_header.php on line 365

There were numerous other messages as well, different. I used the same computer I always use, same account, same coffee, same dog watched me while I typed, etc. etc.

My GBA. While its not my favorite system, nor even the system with the most games, it is the one I can play with or without having electricity in the rest of the house. After nearly 5 days of being without power, I love my GBA. Even if the games arnt as great as the PS2, DC, X-Box, or other non portable systems, it plays. It plays anywheres I want.

I would have said PS2 but the option wasn't there. (I realise there's an "other" option). IMO it's got the best games of the systems I own.

I voted for Megadrive because I've had it since 1992 and I love it.

You can choose any current gen system you want as long as it's the Gamecube. LOL

Bad polls are like having an aligator nibble on your bootie. Don't care for either one of them.

I chose N64. Although the NES was nice, it just doesn't give me the long-time play value that the N64 does. Therefore, if I was only able to have one console, it would have to be the N64. :-P

I'll have to go with my Dreamcast on this one. Not only can I play Dreamcast games, but also homebrew and many other systems through emulators. Sure the SNES emulation isn't the best, but the NES is damn near perfect! :D

Absolutely no contest. It would be my PSP, due to it's portability and multi-usage.....providing that the system survives long enough to have a decent software library. IF the PSP were to fail, as I have the sneaking suspicion that it WILL, then I would choose my N64, based on the durability of the console (no moving parts or drive to wear out) and the stellar games from Rare.

I chose other for the PC. It's a system, it's a system. A lie told often enough becomes the truth. Good old Stalin.

I would have voted for XBox. If I could only have one, XBox would be it as it can emulate most everything else near perfectly.

trying for an unbalanced poll? wheres sony and microsoft

even thought the genesis is my all time favorite system id choose the xbox - great games - great power - great emulation

That's easy - an Xbox, with a mod chip and emulators, so that I can play all of the other console's games anyway :)

The SNES hands down - we never needed to move beyond 2D. ;)

I voted for my PC as well. I can go week without playing a console game if I had to but I'm hopelessly addicted to my PC. :embarrassed:

PlayStation.

I own the most games for it, and since I have a DebugStation I can download and play any burns that I'd like.

PlayStation for sure. It has the best in every genre, and as I am a fan of RPG's, it has everything I need. Plus, it has THE best game ever on it. FFVII. The PlayStation also defined many a genre, as well as created many others. I think the PlayStation has a lot to answer for, and many companies / people have a lot to credit it with.

And, many forget, it is The. Most popular system. ever. It has teh most games for it, and taking into account teh PS2 can play most of them... That's a staggering 7000+ games available for a single system... Surely a record of great proportions!

Ain't that the truth. I voted for the PC even if it didn't have all the emulation. What are you addicted to right now? For me it's BF2 and sadly the CoD2 demo. That will change with Civ IV though. And the full release of CoD2.

I would have to say my GBA. I spend more time playing it than all of my other systems, combined. Plus, the ports of great NES & SNES games on it are awesome. Just need to get a flash cart for some homebrew fun.

I'll take Sega Dreamcast.

-Great games(Shenmue, Jet Grind Radio, Sonic Adventure, ect)

-Limited online play(my favorite game PSO)

-Internet browsing

-Great homebrew and emulation(NES,SMS,GB,SNES,ECT).

-graphics are still pretty damn good

-It's my favorite system ever!!

I love the way there's a category for the RCA Studio II but not for the Playstation, Turbografx, 3DO or several other more relevant machines. LOL

Anyway, Genesis/MegaDrive for me, as long as I've also got a Power Base Convertor handy :)

I'd have to say the dreamcast. Fun games and it's open for homebrewers to make stuff. Half-Life Gold and propeller arena, Nuff said.

I voted Dreamcast, although if the list was bigger, I might have voted for the Jaguar. And yes, I'm serious about that.

I voted dreamcast.

Not because of Seaman, either.

It's all about the Jet Grind Radio.

If I was stranded on a desert island, thats the game I'd want with me.

I picked the SNES. Because its the system that got me back into gamin.

The one I pick not on the list is the PS2. Great system with a good variety of games IMO.

I would pick the PS2, with SNES coming in second.

PS2 because it is the console I play the most, and has the RPG's I like to play.

I chose handheld, as I love to play my PSP with emu on it. Now, I know the emu isn't as good as it is on XBox or DC, but being portable is pretty sweet. THat, and I think it's a damn sexy piece of equipment, almost like Humanoid.

Come on people. Don't choose a system because it will allow you to emulate another system. That's lame and defeats the purpose of the poll.

A tough choice between Mega Drive and Saturn, NES and SNES would be good choices too, if I had them, but I probably would go for Saturn. Thanks to Nights, Souky and a few other great games. Still, I would miss my favorite dolphin, Ecco.

Or I would go for Master System. I have had a SMS so little time and so far, I have had a great time with it. After gems like Phantasy Star, Alex Kidd and Master of Darkness, I want more!

resident evil 4

And, many forget, it is The. Most popular system. ever.

I'm assuming you're talking about the PS1 (not 2). Is PS1 officially more popular than the Gamebay or NES was?

Game Gear!

I can stuff all 76 of my games for it into its carrying case, take it and all its accessories with me, and play it anywhere without a TV. If I had a TV tuner I could watch TV on it too.

Sega Saturn... was my second console (first was NES), but definitely my all time favourite.

The 5200 -- I love the classic era and the translations on the "high-class" Atari machine are great. Also, with all the new ports from the 8-bit line I would have a huge library of games. With a Starcon, gold-dot stock controller, and trackball, the controllers are a non-issue.

Mine was a close call, I voted NES, but Dreamcast and my DS were really close. I have a feeling in a few months, the answer may shift to DS - it's easily the most fun I've had with a system in years.

I would have voted for XBox. If I could only have one, XBox would be it as it can emulate most everything else near perfectly.

Hahaha! Be honest. I have an Xbox that is soft-modded and has every emulator for the Xbox installed. Its SNES emulator is no where near perfect. For example, play Super Mario Kart and look at how the mode-7 effect is messed up, especially in the battlemode water level. Not only that, but the video output on the Xbox is very blurry compared to a real SNES. The NES emulator, FCEU is allot better in comparison, but still has burry video output with slightly off colors, audio, and several games don't emulate correctly.

It is nice to see the SNES win this poll. It gets my vote. For second place I'd be torn between the NES and the GBA. The GBA reminds me of the SNES, but then the SNES reminds me of the NES :)

The SNES was Nintendo's last great non-portable console. Their non-portable consoles have been lesser ever since. Lets hope they don't mess up their portable line... though the DS looks like they are trying hard to screw the pooch. Of course the GBASP2 keeps me hoping. The GBM's biggest failure is its lack of backwards compatibility.

Playstation 2.

I have a ton of games.

They have a decent set of classic compilations.

I like their controllers the best.

I don't have an eyetoy but I tried it and it is pretty cool.

So many greatest hits titles.

They have good representation in almost all game genres.

THAT SAID, I DON'T SELL MY OLD GAMES. I DON'T TRADE THEM, UNLESS THERE ARE DOUBLES. I ENJOY MOST OF MY CONSOLES. NES, SNES, N64, GAMECUBE, PS1, PS2, SMS, GENESIS, SATURN, DC, INTV, 2600, 5200, 7800, MGNVX 02, CV, 32X ADD ON, SEGA CD ADD ON, VECTREX AND GBA, PSP AND MAYBE 1 OR 2 MORE.

aaamm you do know there are graphic filters to optomize right ?

Of course. I had both SNES, NES, and Xbox hooked up to the same TV, and I tweaked and tweaked settings to try to get the emulators to look and sound exactly like the real systems. I could get the NES the closest, with the exception of the games that don't work correctly on the FCEUX... but the colors and video was still blurry.

The SNES was the worst. There are common games, like Super Mario Kart for example, which are emulated so poorly that I can not, in good conscience, play emulated SNES games on the Xbox. I will stick with my real SNES and SWC DX2 copier, as I can load every SNES ROM I want off of CD, hard drive, or compact flash. Well, except for a few special chip games.

PS2 + Sonic Mega Collection + Sonic Gems Collection + Space Channel 5 Part 2 = win!

Also, all the other great PS2 games (original, Dreamcast ports, compliations) and I can play Final Fantasy IX!

dreamcaster

SEGA Dreamcast

I could play Sega Rally 2, Soul Calibur, The House of the Dead 2, Typing of the Dead, Crazy Taxi and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for the rest of my life.

A much tougher choice than I thought, as the N64, PS2 and SNES all came very close.

I'd keep the Playstation 2.

This gives me all PS1 & PS2 games to choose from and play.
