It sounds like Rockstar may pump some new life into the brawler genre with this one. Not to mention, this was one of my friends favorite movies when I was younger. I'm glad, from the screenshots I've seen, Rockstar stayed faithful to the movie. Even that New York in the 70's, shithole, skid row feeling (no offense to anyone who lives there).

I'm looking forward to this game a helluva alot. It's really the last Xbox game, for this generation, I'm looking forward to. Anyone else got any opinions on what they've seen or heard about this game?

I'm going to play it right after Scarface, The Godfather, Taxi Driver and Annie Hall.

Please, enough with the dead movie licences.

IIRC there was another thread about this game, but given how unreliable my connection to this site has been, i'm afraid to search for it as that might cause me to lose my connection...again :(

Anyway, it's from a development team (Rockstar Toronto) that in the past has churned out a shitty console port of an awesome game (Max Payne) and a decent console port of a shitty game (Oni), and it's their first original title. I don't have very high hopes for the game.

I'll still give it a shot though, because I love the source material.

edit - Fixed the company name..Rockstar Vancouver was Barking Dog Studios, and considering Homeworld: Cataclysm (better than Homeworld 2 :( ) and Global Operations (criminally underrated CS-like game) were both excellent games, I'm looking forward to Bully.

I really wish Rockstar would let the dev studios retain their original names. Shit is just going to go back to the way it was in the pre-Activision days if Rockstar and EA have their way :(

Ditto. I just watched the trailer and tried to care about it. In the end though my only reaction was "Meh, ok, so what's next?" If it gets some good reviews and gets cheap pretty quickly I may pick it up

I'm going to play it right after...Annie Hall

Now there's a game I'd play! LOL

Gonna sit this one out. I'd rather see what Rockstar is gonna do with the Bully game.

I'm waiting for the final product to make a definitive opinion, but I'm interested in this. I like the movie, I like beat em ups and I've liked most of Rockstar's games.

None of the real games you mentioned have even come out yet. I don't understand how someone can be sick of a genre that hasn't even begun ...

I'm a huge fan of this movie. Upon seeing early trailers I thought "Oh, yes!" But I'm starting to worry that it's going to wind up being nothing more than GTA:SA style gameplay in different packaging. Nothing wrong with GTA:SA, but give me something original. Still, I'll hold off on final judgment until I can get maybe a demo or something. It's still got a sense of promise to it.

Despite being a fanboy of the film I, too, find myself much more excited about "Bully" than this.

Count me in line for it. My dad really liked this movie and so I watched it a lot as a kid. I'm sure I'll get it and I haven't told my dad about it yet, so some day when he comes over I'll surprise him and show it to him.

I'm going to pull a similar trick with my brother, who is not a gamer but a big fan of the film. Chances are good he'd go buy a PS2 for this one game.

Little known slightly OT fact: The story for the movie The Warriors is based on a incident in ancient Greek history called the Anabasis. A group of 10000 Greek mercenaries were persuaded to assist a Persian prince to enter his territrory and help him take over the throne. Once inside the "renegade" Perisans screwed over the Greeks and killed most of their generals. A young officer of the Greeks took command and had to march everybody out via the long way - from the southern border of Mede-Persia all the way north - back into Greek territories. Remarkably they suffered hardly any losses among the original 10000 mercenaries. The names of some Warriors characters are from this:

Cyrus = Cyrus - the Persian prince
Cleon = Clearchus - Spartan general killed in the Persian betrayal
Swan = Xenophon - The Athenian junior officer who took over command and got everybody out.
Ajax - No one of Anabasis record AFAIK, but is probably a nod to the Iliad.

Pretty cool stuff. Xenophon wrote his own account called the Anabasis and there's also a decent historcial fiction of the story called The Ten Thousand by Michael Curtis Ford. If you're into ancient history either one is a good read.

I defenitely won't be paying for it when it comes out, but once it gets on the cheap, I'd like to check it out. Seems like it'd be a decent title for 10-15 bucks.

finally found a damn copy of the movie and just finished watching it. i would like to have the game expand on the movie, especially my favorite scene (the bathroom brawl). that chick who hung out with the orphan and had the nipples everywhere was sleazy cool. <3

I have a backlog of games. A side effect if sort of lucky for me. It'll save me some $$$$$, because I can't justify paying top dollar and letting it sit. I'll wait for a price drop and an ease in the traffic jam that is my backlog of unplayed games.

Yeah the game has my interest so far although this would be one of the rare occasions that I would buy a game just becuase I like the movie so much :embarrassed:

Also the Warriors is NOT an overrated movie if anything its underrated or it was for many years anyway and became something of a cult phonom as of late.

I saw this movie many years ago before any of my friends had ever heard of it and now its like everyone THINKS they have an opinion on it even though most of these same kids have never even seen the movie.

anyway its a damn good movie and Im hoping Rockstar will put together a good game to complement the movie but well see.

I'm pretty hyped about The Warriors game... the more I watch the movie, the more I anticipate the game... However, I also have a backlog of games... I've got Max Payne 2, Red Dead Revolver, and a few other Rockstar games which I have yet to play for more than a few minutes... plus there are the other Rockstar games I just haven't finished yet...

Rockstar games... I love em, but don't have enough time to play them to their full potential :)

Well, that's just where we differ. I also saw the movie years ago (thus showing I'm not some 11 year old who THINKS he has an opinion on it) and saw it again recently and still think that it isn't anything special. Same goes for Scarface. I thought that was a very good movie, but it was elevated to the supreme level of being "the best gangsta movie ever!!" and thus became too over-hyped for me. Again, it's a good movie that just gets way too much praise when it shouldn't. The Warriors isn't necessarily at that level, but the same ideology goes with it for me. It just isn't anything special to me.

bestbuy is released an "ultimate director's cut" on tuesday. i doubt its worth going out of the way for, since there wasn't any gore to be toned down (unless the nipples chick originally had a matching set of pants :D)

That doesnt bother me. Im buying the directors cut because I lent a friend my copy and never got it back.

IMO, "The Warriors" is not an overrated movie. Im also one of those people who saw it when it first came out.
Back in 1979, NYC still had street gangs and the movie cause major riots in theaters. I remember they had to yank it out the theaters because of that.

The book is also great. Well, better than the movie of course.

Not sick, but we all know the track record of movie games, and it's bad enough when they crap on NEW movies, but to dig up classics like Scarface and The Godfather, that's going too far.
