View Full Version : Do You Own a DP Collector's Guide

digitalpress

OK, I'm guessing that 75% of the people who visit here own a guide (or a past incarnation thereof), so I'm just "getting your pulse" as a community, if you will.

We have some interesting projects in the works, knowing the audience is going to be very important to us this year as we take that next step toward conquering this tiny planet o)

I don't, but I should, and I regret not owning. When is the next one? Wondering if I can wait, or if you should " hook me up phat " .

I have a 7th edition. It's my first, but most likely not my last volume of the guide. It's such an excellent resource!!! Thanks to all who make it possible.

I don't, but it's very high on my "to buy" list, especially after having gone thrifting for the first time in over 3 years this weekend. I really coulda used that.

But someone else posted a valid question: is v8.0 due out this year, or should I go ahead and get v7.0 when I've got the dough?

I don't have one...partly due to the $30 US price and partly to the high shipping price to Canada. Wondering if there's any way to send it cheaper...

$30? You can get it for $25 from our site and from amazon.com, not sure who's raping you for the extra $5, but I have another deal for you.

I recently got four returns from a distributor in Louisiana, apparently a few books got their spines a little crunched. They're actually in pretty good condition, I'll be willing to sell them for $15. They're brand new, just imperfect spines.

Interested?

As a Canadian also, it does hurt to absorb that exchange rate w/ the shipping and all, but I bought the 7th edition (my first btw) and it was worth every penny.

Joe, do you have any "back issues" for sale still?

Thanks and keep up the great work.

I've got mine from playing DP Survivor last year! Excellent resource and cataloging for games and rarities. The descriptions of the game and the rants on some titles are good too and sometimes a good chuckle as well.

This is like the resource if you plan to get into collecting and I recommend the DP Guide to some my friends and on other mesg boards at times too.

5th, i hate the binder style, it's ripped to shreds.
6th, stays in the car, just in case.
7th, stays at home.

I miss the little flags and sad faces. kinda helps on the fly when you don't know shit about the game.

Sadly, I don't own a DP Guide right now. Hopefully, my finances will improve dramatically soon (and career opportunities are finally knocking at my door!), and it will then be my pleasure to pick up a copy. The way things are going, maybe I'll pick it up at PC4... (keeping fingers crossed).

Maxlords: I'd go for that deal that Mr. Digitalpress is offering. Well worth it even with the shipping. It'l probably come to around $35 bucks canadian. With shipping.

So so everyone knows, once the exchange and shipping was tacked on my DP7 cost me just over $50 CDN. Yowie ;) But it was worth it.

I have the past 3 guides. I only wish that some of it would sink in. You don't know how many times Iv'e had to leave potential rare games at the store and go home and look through the guide.

Nope. Still slumming off the edition from 1993 with Bonk, Sonic, and Mario getting eaten by Pac-Man. Hopefully the new guide will come soon.
I'm starting to wonder about my mail... I've been selling a lot of my games and I still haven't received checks from the folks who claimed they've already sent them.

You better edit your post now, Butta.

Anyway, I have 5th, 6th and 7th editions. My fifth is one of the versions with the paper cover and clear plastic protector. I noticed that my cousin's version has the cover printed right to the plastic. I wish I had his!

I'm ashamed to admit I don't own it.

The thrifter in me keeps thinking it'll go on sale like it did a few months ago ($20), and I had my eye on the copy that was up on eBay, but I've yet to buy it.

The $15 bent spine copy is appealling...

I just ordered two :-D. One will be used to check all my classic games and it will sit in pristine condition next to my consoles. The other will be carried with me, read whenever I want, and surely end up looking like hell just like the 6th edition I still have.

I own all the guides since the Third Ed. I think. I'll have to check if that one is around but I have guides 4-7 here in front of me. The 7th Edition is the most up to date and biggest guide so far but my all time favorite was the 5th Ed. spiral bound guide. 8-)

Yeah! The 5th edition is both beloved and hated, depending on who you talk to. We called it "the Armageddon Edition" because the solid plastic cover and spine protected it from the elements (we heard some really good stories, one guy was even in a car crash and the book was the only thing on his front seat that wasn't damaged). And yet, the POST OFFICE between here and Scotland managed to destroy one sent to Asylum Seeker. A few months later we had also exchanged a Virtual Boy for a Jaguar system... NEITHER of those reached their destination either! Needless to say I'm a little leary of shipping to that black hole on the planet, but otherwise the 5th Ed has had some rather memorable SURVIVOR-type stories attached to it :)

Yeah I must admit DP that we have had our fair share of shipping problems!! But things do get here....honestly and intact....I got a game from Sniderman and a game from Dustin so it can't be all that bad.

Or can it? :/ Hope this doesn't put you off from shipping in the future!!

I own one! and Joe where he got the 30 from I think was for mine I had to pay $25 for the guide plus $8.30 for shipping to Canada so mine was a little over 50 canadain, but well worth it!

As for what somebody said about shipping it cheaper I highly doubt it because it was shipped in an envelop, which came to me all ripped out and a letter from the post office that said it was damaged when it was sent (Ya right like Joe just banged up the guide before he sent it to me, just to make the post office look bad) LOL But I do love the guide!

MankeyMan, the poll algorithm rounds all decimals DOWN to the whole number. As far as it's concerned, 3.9 = 3.

I've got two guides, both of the #7. One I preordered (and received very promptly, thank you very much) and one I 'won' for my participation in Survivor (thank you *again* very much).

I was going to give the newer one to my dad but I've decided to keep both. One I'll mark up like there's no tomorrow and the other will remain pristine. And for now one is at the office and the other is at home...

I got one a couple of months ago, meant to preorder and forgot, great for me because I only knew the Atari market but now I know a little bit more about the Intv and Coleco and the hundred carts I have for them now :)

I was finally reminded to buy it when I was placing an order with AtariAge and they had it listed in their store. It's not there anymore I hope it sold out and wasn't yanked ;)

Nope, I don't own one. I found this while searching for a place to discuss classic games, because my own forum (VGF.com) has very few people in it that even remember the 2600, much less discuss it. Although I'm familiar with the scene (which games are rare, general values, etc.), I'm really not that big of a game "collector". I considered buying one when I was in my "thrift phase", but I got bored of rummaging through others' garbage pretty quickly.

I hope it wasn't yanked, though I can't imagine why they'd do that since they paid for them up front! It's probably just such a hot seller that they can't keep them in their store! I dunno... we're still selling several books a day from the DP site and amazon.com keeps buying cases of them so no complaints here.

I've got mine, It has paid for itself several times over already. I'm just wandering if, in the future, it will be available online to those who purchase a copy. Or perhaps a version for the Palm or other handheld device that would have name, rarity, and price....just basic info stuff. Just a few thoughts I have concerning the guide. If you don't have one, you are missing out!! There was so much info crammed in there, I hate to think how big it would be if Joe hadn't edited some of it out. Kuddos to the Staff!!!

This subject comes up from time to time. It would actually be very easy to do but there are issues regarding "theft of data" that we've struggled with. The opinions of gang that works on this stuff is foremost priority to me, and to date we have not come to an agreement on electronic distribution. When that day comes, you'll hear it here first though.

So many projects!

Well, it's more likely that our next book will be the 16-bit (and up) era, a compilation of the online lists you see plus pics and more in the "blue cover" book. Assuming the editors are all ready to go, I'd like to have something late this year, early next year. The next "classic era" book would be late next year at best (7th edition is less than a year old).

Save your pennies!

Volume 5 got me hooked on collecting, not as durable, but hell it was packed full o stuff. (the cover art is awesome on 5)
