Personally I find it amusing, but then again I have reserved parking in Hades, and let me tell ya , it ain't cheap :)

In the advert, a young man smiles cheekily, wearing a crown whose thorns are twisted into the geometric shapes that are PlayStation's logo.
(with the slogan "Ten years of passion.")
That...doesn't even make sense.

And beholden upon verily for Jesus cried unto the Lord god and a miracle was witnessed for he walked upon the waters of the ocean and warped unto level 8-1 with thrice free lives.

Hrm,
No wonder I cry out in strange voices when collecting all the shit for this system. I'm being posessed by the devil for having to attempt to aquire all the US releases and realizing that ive still got 500 to go.

YOu are right! I agree one hundred percent. Simultaneously though, I have to agree with the Catholic who was quoted in the article. Christianity does receive mockery but has no protection such as Muslims or other 'smaller' religions.
Don't get me wrong, I DO agree that people are too sensitive, even concerning their religions. Once again though, I am proud of people who can stand up for their religion, and be publicly proud of it (Besides anonymous internet rants).
So it is a double edged sword. Of course, I have to call foul on Sony for greenlighting that advertisement campaign in the same country that has Catholicisms Headquarters.

It's funny, I was in Milan Italy a couple summers ago and went to the huge Duomo Cathedral downtown. Next to the side wall there was a newstand with a four foot high placard showing the latest cover of Elle magazine (Italian edition). It was a topless model in the surf, turned mostly around but a big nipple showing.
I thought it was disrespectful to the Cathedral (which even had a sign asking people not to come in wearing shorts), but I guess Italians were OK with it.

They could make it even and use this ad as well:

maybe I should write a letter asking for a free ps2 since im cathiloc (im really offended they think ps2s should break down after time  im not buying another one!)
I think they're getting a pretty strong reaction anyway, even though Sony hasn't gotten around to offending Muslims yet. Besides, it's not like Catholics are in the minority in fucking Italy.

I'm Catholic too actually :embarrassed: What we should do, is write a letter saying to them "Hey relax, we just got over the boy molesting issues, at least you can thank Sony for not making fun of you on that"

Why is this a big deal? We've seen Christ used many times to get the media's attention. I'm not shocked at all.
PS - I'm a Christian.

Now that you mention it, the Catholic church would be an awesome theme for PSP ads! You know how the DS had at one time used the slogan "touching is good"?. The PSP ad would have "touching is bad", with a picture of a Catholic priest holding a DS with a lustful look in his eyes.

Being that I am a Christian, I am glad they are pulling the ad. To connect the death of Jesus to a friggin console is just plain bad. The one thing that really gets old is that Christianity always seems to be the safe religion to mock and put down these days. If it was any other religion they were making fun of, there would be a much bigger outcry of injustice. I dont think it is overreacting for many to Italy to feel this way. It was a poor marketing choice on the Sony's end. I feel that some feel more comfortable mocking religion than really listening to what the message of religion is trying to convey.

Remember this guys. Now next time something similar happens don't be surprised when any other religions get made when they see something in a video game they don't like. Think about all the games that have muslims and muslime influence in it, lets pull all those games off the shelves as well "Xenogears - PSX" is one of them.

LOL That actually would rock. Another thing they should do, is use the South Park "Golden PSP" method.

Look at all the attention that ad got. Money well spent IMO. I seriously doubt they outraged their target market.

Hehe that would make a fantastic ad, if i was any good at photoshop i would be right on it.
People are too sensitive nowdays about religon, i couldnt care less which religon they mock. Its only used as a tool to contol the masses anyway.
Id rather see that sony ad in the paper than another news story about a catholic priest thast has molested another kid. Either get married & have sex or just have a wank but leave the kids alone for more than 10 minutes.

Yeah thats my take on religon.
The bible was written by man which means it can't be trusted as the truth.
Since time began people have used religon as a tool to control & kill. People use religon as a way of coping with not existing after death.
Personally i find the idea of not existing after i die pretty comforting. I imagine in billions of years my molecules floating around space. Eternal peace, ahh sounds great.
How many times have you heard on the news that some religous nut has killed a bunch of people in the name of god.

That ad make sperfect sense. Except it should be a PSX wearing the crown.
You know how many PSX (and PS2s) have died for our gaming sins? :)
