I will be there. I am really looking forward to the 12 hour drive. I will be looking to trade some games for a butt pillow for the ride home.
Actually, anyone who's bored should make me a CD-R of their favorite music and give it to me there, so I will have new stuff to listen to on the drive home. :)

I have no idea why I was fortunate enough to get an invitation... maybe Sean is looking to hit me up for a free LASIK consultation. LOL
Seriously, this party is the weekend of my annual ophthalmology conference which conveniently is in Chicago this year. Looks like I have no choice and the winds of fate are blowing me all the way (keep those dirty minded wisecracks to yourself -- that means you, Flack!) to his shop's front door, a.k.a. party central.
I will be bringing some stuff to trade or sell to bump my colecovision collection. A bit of game gear, a bit of intelli, colecovision, pc, maybe a few dvds and cds. Whatever I find in my collection that is not getting the love it deserves (i.e. gathering dust).
I plan to try to find Joe and donate a game to him for his new shop as a token of thanks for this great site. It would be great if others did the same to show their support.
I'm looking forward to meeting people there. :)

While i have a ton of trade stuff this year, i wont be able to make it. I'm in the middle of putting a second floor on my house right now and i really need to have it wrapped up "before the snow flies". Weekends are a precious commodity for me, not much time for play. But, I had a great time last year and hopefully it'll happen again next year.

I was fortunate to get an invite from Sean when I took the family to see his store recently. I'll be bringing a variety of odds and ends that have been stacking up around here:
N64 games
TG16 games
2600 games
NES Games + system
Perhaps some PC games
A few Sega CD games I recently picked up
and a few other random items that I hope are of interest
I'm looking forward to meeting everyone. I'm obviously not a big poster here, but I am a very avid lurker so it will be cool to put some faces with the names. :D

Yesterday I was telling Queen of the Felines, "wow, who are all those people that responded in the Chi-Town Classic thead? I don't know who most of them are?" And now the day after, I re-read the thread and I can picture every single person's face who posted in this thread!
As this was my first Chi-Town Classic I can't compare it to others, but yesterday's gathering was overwhelming! There were so many people and new faces there that for probably the first 30 minutes I simply stood in the corner, trying to figure out who was who. Skoldpadda was cool enough to actually bring nametags, so that worked out great and really helped out!
If you think you are a packrat or have a lot of crap lying around your house then you definitely need to come to one of these things and check out people's trade piles. Seriously. I can't even begin to describe how much stuff was there. Piles and piles of everything from Pongs to PS2s. And that's just the stuff people toted in; I can honestly say I'm glad I don't live anywhere near Sean's store, as I would constantly be broke. He's got new stuff, old stuff, and everything in between.
At one point I tried to walk from the back of the store to the front and it took me over an hour. I left the LAN area where I was talking to Skoldpadda and walked into Joe and big daddy John Hardie, who were sipping on wine and eating cheese. From there I ran into cityside75, where we talked about vintage computers for a bit. As I turned around I ran into Slapdash and Queen of the Felines who were deep in conversation. I stepped to the left and bumped into Dangerboy and Jeff-20. After talking with them I finally made it to the front of the store where Captain Yashiro was sitting, but it had been so long that I forgot what I was going to ask him and so I began making my way back to the back of the store again. :)
I can't tell you how many times I heard "oh man I've been LOOKING for that!" or "MAN I remeber THESE!" Near the end a couple of people were walking around giving away free games (I know QOF gave away some expensive looking games). There were games, there were systems, there were drinks and food, there were adult DVDs (I'll save that story for a rainy day) ... pretty much anything you were looking for was there. I mean, when Dangerboy (who has 1,200+ PSX games) finds a variant he's looking for, you know it's been a good day for all.
I didn't buy much personally: a few Atari 2600 games from Jeff-20, some Star Wars related Cracked Magazines from Skoldpadda, and an insanely large Apple IIc lot from Dangerboy which my wife is going to kill me over. I also picked up a few freebies from Sean. My best find of the day was the Commodore 64 which was used all day as the store's doorstop. Literally. This poor '64 was sitting on the sidewalk all day, propping the front door open. As we left I asked Sean's whose it was, because I wanted it as a memento. He said he had no idea. No one in the store seemed to know either. It had a $3 price tag written in pencil on the bottom of it; if anyone knows whose it was, I'll gladly send them the three bucks.
Chi-Town Classic was definitely an experience. Thanks to Sean Kelly for putting on such a great party, Joe and John for coming out and bringing all the food and beer, and everyone that shared stories with me or had to sit around listening to mine. :) And super special thanks to QoF for the ride to and from Grandma's house and for bringing the Quiznos platter.

AHAHAHA you actually bought that Apple IIc lot! I almost wanted to stay the entire day to see if Dangerboy sold any of his computers!
I got there first and left there first. Claimed a rather large portion of the floor for all of my junk (which you can see on the first page. I got some people really hyped with that pic)
Who'd I meet....Flack, k8track, skoldpadda, Buyatari, cityside75. Saw all the people from last year again: Joe John Sean, QOF, Goodwill Hunter, vintagegamecrazy, Jeff20, slapdash, ianoid (well he wasn't there last year but I met him before), Dangerboy, Chunky for the 20 minutes he was there. And talked to a bunch of other people who I'm forgetting the names of, sorry fellas. :D
My dad drove me in there because he wanted to roadtrip, and even HE had a good time. Found some stuff to buy, even.
Great time as usual, and I hope to see everybody again up in Green Bay for Classic Drinking Expo 2006!

Sorry i didn;t get to stay and play I had to entertain and whatnot and allowed myself 20 mins that turned into 50. I sold everything i brought, and picked up 3 games and ran. I really wanted to tear through other's things that i actually needed, but oh well.....
and that leads to another story of wearing my Wierd AL costume, Kristi dressed as a fairy, expired plates on car, mr. police officer, and other odd things of later that day.

A great time at Sean's as usual. Lot's of trading (me happy) and selling (wife happy), plus 6 boxes of shelf filler sold to Sean that I didn't have to bring back (wife insanely happy).
Good to see John and about 75% of Joe (I'm going to look into this South Beach thing), in addition to a bunch of forum members...Atarian75, Captain Yashiro, Dangerboy, QoF, Slapdash, VintageGameCrazy, Flack (13 hour drive....you are a madman!), Master Chief (good talking to you, post more often!), Skoldpadda (thanks for the name tags), Ianoid (wlecome back to the midwest!), Buyatari, Chunky, and many others!
This seemed to be the busiest one yet, no time to game on the LAN and barely enough time snap a few pictures...

Approximately 42nd and Harvard in Norridge, IL. If I remember correctly it was about 10 minutes away from O'Hare airport. If you collect, well, anything, you should drop by there.
Poor Kris' car looked like the Beverly Hillbillies' on the way back to my grandma's house. Who know you could fit four monitors, several boxes of Apple II goodies, a printer, a Commodore 64, an Amiga 500, my laptop, magazines, and boxes of games all in the rear of an Oldsmobile.
By the way, all the Apple stuff is still in the back of my van; I've been too afraid for my wife so see my dragging it all in, so I'm going to wait until she's asleep tonight to do so.
Hey Rich, thanks for those couple of pix. I had my camera with me and was so overwhelmed I completely forgot about taking any pictures until half the crowd had dispursed. I saw Joe and a couple of other people snapping photos, so hopefully between everyone's pics we'll have shots of everyone who was there.
In that first picture Goodwill Hunter posted, that looks like Jeff-20's backside (in the purple sweater), Geoff (kneeling) k8track (with the beard), Atarian75 (?) in the far back, Dangerboy (up close, behind game rack), my head off in the distance, Qof (in the blue shirt to the right of the game rack) and Mark from vectrexcarts.com (in the red shirt).
Sorry I missed Chunky ... due to traffic snarls we arrived later than we had planned.

I had a great time and it was fun to meet so many people from the forum. I sold a bunch of stuff and picked up 2 colecovision homebrews that I didn't have. The best part of Sean's store for me was finally getting to play Super Donkey Kong Jr on his kiosk and seeing the extra screen.
It was a lot of fun hanging out all day and listen to people talk about esoteric video games I had never heard of (I never claimed to be knowledgeable about this stuff). Everyone was cool, friendly, and enjoyable to chill with for the day.

Yeah, it was a fun time as usual. It was great to see everybody I knew, and meet a couple I didn't prior to it. I mainly chatted; there were a few boxes I probably didn't even look at! That might be just as well, as I brought nothing to trade, and not much cash, anyway. Still spent a fair amount at the end of the night though!

Thanks to everyone for coming! Several people told me this was the best one yet. I had a blast as usual and I'm still sorting through all the stuff I bought/traded-for.
Joe took some pics that I'm sure he'll post sometime soon.
Someone asked where the store is at. I'm at 4351 N. Harlem Ave. in Norridge, IL 60706.
I generally schedule this thing around CGE but since there isn't a CGE next year, I'm thinking I might do it a little earlier next year....dunno for sure.

I had a great time as well. As one of the new people at the event this year, I felt like everyone was really friendly and welcoming. I've never seen anything like it in my life, although I've had dreams about being in a room full of that much cool videogame stuff.
I'll second and third the others saying how nice it was to put some faces with some names here. I tried to talk with as many as I could, and while I didn't get everyone's names, I did enjoy talking with Flack, Goodwill Hunter, skoldpadda, DP-Joe, QOF, Capt. Yashiro, dangerboy, John, ianoid, Jeff, and many, many others.
I ended up staying longer than I thought I would too, for some entertaining and somewhat non-gaming related conversation at the end. And for those that were trying to get me to part with my dear old Lynx, I promise not to bring anything next time that holds any sentimental value to me! LOL
Edit ---
I'm in for more than once a year too!
Also, can't forget to thank Sean for making it all possible. Thanks! I'm sure I'll be back to the store soon to see what you have to put in to my newly acquired 3do.

I kind of think that doing it more than once a year takes-away some of the novelty of the thing. I mean John & Joe most likely wouldn't be able to come more often than they do and several others who come in from Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan, etc probably wouldn't be as eager to make the trip if it was happening monthly. I know they have regular monthly or bi-monthly meetings on the east coast and elsewhere, and I've been to them, but they're far more "casual" than what we do here yearly. People don't go out of their way to come to those because they can always go next month. Personally, I love the whole buying/selling/trading FRENZY that happens because most of the people here won't go to another meet until next year.
Not to mention the MESS! I'm still digging-out from all the stuff I bought over the weekend and the cleaning will take all week. Not to imply that anyone was/is a slob, but when there are that many people here messes just kind of happen. I also give people full run of the place. Despite the fact that there's so much crap in my backrooms that it may appear I don't know where anything is, I actually do and people rifle through everything back there (I don't mind at all or I wouldn't let people back there) and it all has to be put back in my idea of "order". :) I think next year we're going to DEMAND Jamie for cleanup crew!
What would be cool is a few "hang-out" parties. People would bring a box or two of their trade stuff (as opposed to everything they own that they bring here) and do a little trading for an hour or two and then just kind of hang out at D&B or a local bar or pizza place or whatever.
John Greve in Wisconsin used to host one also. It kind of worked-out that he was doing one in the Spring and I was doing it in the fall. Attendance at John's meets was kind of low so he stopped doing them. John has an awesome setup though. He's got 20-25 vintage arcade machines setup in his basement with tons of space inside and outside. He's about a 60-90 minute drive (north) of me. I'm sure if there was enough interest, he'd be willing to do one once in a while.

I'd probably be up for John Greve's meet, if it's 90 minutes North from your store then I'm even closer to it (since I'm 90 minutes Northeast of Norridge)

I meant to reply in this thread a lot sooner, and wanted to do so before the statute of limitations expired. I had a wonderful time a few weeks back at Sean's get-together, and got to meet a lot of great new people, as well as seeing several dear people whom I'd met before.
I stayed there for six hours and the time just flew by. I really felt like I'd visited the mother ship. I was able to overcome my anxiety of being in the Chicago area (there's just this vibe I always get whenever I have to drive to O'Hare to drop off or pick up my fiancee--half of that is probably the airport itself) and had a real blast.
I got to meet several people with whom I'd met online but never in person. I really enjoyed meeting Captain Yashiro, QOF, and Ianoid, all of whom I'd been wanting to meet. It was also nice briefly meeting Slapdash and Buyatari as well. I got to meet a whole slew of great new people, especially Skoldpadda, who was super nice and who sold me a Coleco Telstar Arcade with all the trimmings; VintageGameCrazy, who bought my Fire Command Joystick (and who is hopefully enjoying it very much!); and Geoff "Frodis" Lucas, who sold me a fat stack of Video Review Magazines for $10 (and I am digging them a great deal!) and who is in the final stages of doing a killer Xbox mod for me. Did I forget anyone? Oh yeah, Goodwill Hunter was very cool too, I snagged some 2600 games, an Intv game, and many manuals from him. And he graciously took my check (did it bounce yet?).
And it was great seeing familiar faces whom I'd seen before... Sean, John H, Joe, and Flack. (Man, I hope I didn't forget anyone!) I especially appreciated talking with Joe and Flack about some drama that my fiancee was going through (by the way guys, everything turned out OK--nothing happened to Kazue, but the drunk driver guy is going to jail for 4 years, and the other girl is AWOL. Drama!). They soothed my jangled nerves and made me feel better.
I just had the best time and it was just what I needed that day. Perfect!
