From Gamespy:

Capcom has so many power-packed franchises, it's almost easy to forget one or two. Final Fight, for all its 16-bit brawling glory back in the day, has essentially disappeared off gamers' radars for the last few years. Capcom is bringing the series back with a vengeance, however, in Final Fight Streetwise.

Keep in mind that this is far from the same game you played on SNES and in the arcades back in the early 1990s. First off, it's got a brand new star in Kyle Travers. He's the brother of former Final Fight stud, Cody, who has been kidnapped by Metro City's toughest gang. Luckily, Kyle has more than a lust for revenge in his favor; his day job is a hard-nosed pitfighter.

I have to admit: The first F-bomb that got dropped in the Streetwise trailer (maybe 12 seconds in) had me a little shocked. It's not like I've never heard an F-enheimer in a game before; it's more that I didn't expect it out of this title. But that's the gritty nature of this new vision of Metro City. These guys don't just talk tough, though, as the fighting system strives for brutal realism.

The developers -- who were also responsible for the Maximo series, by the way -- really want the player to feel the pain. The fighting engine appears to be one of the more promising we've seen out of current-gen 3D brawlers -- though that's admittedly not saying much. You get a few different attack specials, such as the requisite bullet-time and something dubbed Instinct Mode. With the odds against Kyle, don't feel the least bit guilty for picking up a baseball bat or knife. Hell, a machine gun may even find its way into your calloused hands.

Money talks in Streetwise, so keep in mind that throwing a 20-spot can be a lot less painful than throwing a punch. Not only can you buy new items to make your life easier, but you can also grease the wheels to learn some helpful information. Perhaps the coolest thing to do with your clams is to bribe enemies. Money may not buy happiness, but buying friends is the next best thing. Besides, you can always benefit from some backup.

Part of the problem with the beat-em-up genre is how shallow the gameplay and story progression are. Final Fight counters that with plenty of side-quests and minigames. You'll definitely be engaging in a few pitfights along your way, earning money and building up your stats. Just make sure you save some energy for the real life-or-death battles.

Final Fight's visuals are a big departure from the past, which hurts the connection to other entries in the series. That's progression for you. There's always a lot going on onscreen, and the environments do their job of making you feel dirty enough to want to go wash after playing for a while. Pro Logic II support gives some (literally) kickin' audio to go along with the intense fights.

It's great to see Final Fight taping up its fists once again. If any series can revitalize the stagnant 3D brawler genre, this is it. I just hope I get to see a high-polygon Mike Haggar doing a few spinning piledrivers at some point.

This is Capcom so maybe this new Final Fight will turn out to be a good game hopefully they will be able to retain the fun gameplay aspects of the original 2-D versions and will be able to transfer them over to 3-D intact.

I just hope it wont be another fighting force debacle of course that was from Edios ;)

The demo at E3 was a blast. Hoping the final product turns out good.

I'm pretty skeptical about this, I was a huge Final Fight fan back on the SNES. It's good they have a new character, but it sucks that there's no Haggar or Guy. They have Cody's brother, but who cares? Cody was probably the worst character in FF3 on the SNES, IMO. I'll definitely give this a shot, but I have my doubts.

... ummmmmm... Cody wasn't in FF3. Haggar and Guy were, however. Lucia and Dean were the other two playable.

:/

This is probably just me, but I just want a game that 100% focuses on the beating-the-shit-out-of-assailants aspect of the game. I heard in an email from a friend of mine that one of the first things in the game that you have to do is go around and talk to people, which... frankly, didn't sound very appealing to me. Plus, he said that the control sucked, and as it stands, I'm not very impressed with the graphics.

As syd said, I'll try this, but my expectations are, so far, not very high.
