ARGH, this means alot of guessing with online translators if i'm going to actually sign up.

Do you really think they're going to hire someone to translate each and every auction listing for a market that not even supposed to be sold to in the first place? :P
I never really understood this line of thinking. Like when people ask if a converter for a system will make Japanese games play in English as if it magically can translate all the games or as if it has a translated script for every game on the system stored inside of it. o_O

Keep in mind that even if you do sign up for it, the vast majority of sellers do NOT ship outside of Japan, and I don't think they'd take too kindly to people bidding on their auctions who can't even communicate with them. Don't just assume that they all know English.
I signed up for an account myself, but I mostly use it for the purpose of checking completed auctions and such. Because I live in the US and don't know enough Japanese to communicate in it, I still use a middleman to buy for me.

This isnt really the thing. Noone are going to translate every auction of course, but the basic auctionsite could easaly be done in english. Then it would be easier to navigate through the auctions, but of course, the text that the sellers write will still be in japanese.
If you want to buy from auction at yahoo japan there is a company that can do this for you, for a fee of course. I dont remember the link, but if you use the forum search and find my old topic about yahoo japan someone wrote the link there.

Subscribing to yahoo japan is not exactly like ebay: I think you need to pay a monthly fee.

I've never been charged anything. I never even had to give them any sort of information that they could bill me with.

When I signed up for my yahoo.jp auction account, they charged my credit card like $1.50 or $.15. I can't remember, but it freaked out my bank, which then froze my account until I straightened everything out. I remember the money being put back later, and not eating much for 3 days. I got the account to buy rare Jamma boards for someone in Oregon. True story.
Also, I was living in Japan at the time and spoke "great" Japanese. I never had a bad experience and overall it was ten times better than eBay, I kid you not. Everyone was polite and shipped everything on time. I think the longest wait I ever had was four days. Japan's a small place, but that's still a short time.

Yahoo auctions japan is such a amazing place. You can find items on there that you'd never find in a million years outside japan, hehe im not just taking about videogame stuff its amazing just what i can find. I can literally spend hours just looking at pics.
If people really want to bid & search for stuff on yahoo auctions theres a middleman service called www.rinkya.com that let you bid but you have to pay fees so its only worth it if theres somthing you want thats very rare & are prepared to cough up the extra fees.

It's funny how in Japan, Yahoo auctions are huge and ebay is nothing, and in the US the reverse is true.

I thought I'd read somewhere that Yahoo beat Ebay by six months in opening an auction site in Japan and has dominated the action over there ever since. One can only hope Yahoo would get it's act together enough to link Yahoo auctions around the world the way Ebay does.
I've wondered if Bable Fish would provide enough translation to complete or even inquire about a Japan Yahoo auction. Then again I'm not sure Pay Pal is used widely over there and international USPS money orders aren't free.
Ebay isn't perfect, but it has let me purchase games from Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Germany, France, England, Australia, Canada and Ireland with a couple of mouse clicks. Gotta remember there's no Pay Pal in Ireland though. DOH!
