Now's your chance to not only own the game, but the rights as well! I wonder if they have any more dev kits left over too.

Fascinating...
I wonder if you actually do get the rights to publish the games. A lot of these licenses (NBA, NHL, NFL) wouldn't be good forever, but instead for a limited publishing window. A lot of the other licenses are owned by other people, but were published by Acclaim in certain situations (Crazy Taxi, Bust-A-Move, Headhunter) and finally, the lawsuit that forced the WWF to change their name for the WWE would probably force the seller to either change the game or not be able to publish it.
On a bit of a seperate note, without the source code to stick on a cartridge, how can you publish this stuff? Do they expect you to gain a pirated copy and just work off that?
Well, who knows... I may just be finding out for myself ;)

well obviously you can't publish any games with NFL, NHL, or NBA in it due to the licenses have been bought.

I think DP should buy the rights (or it's members go in together and buy it). I bet BuyAtari could afford to purchase it himself. Anyhow, I think it's really interesting. I wonder if you could buy just one of the frachises (like Turok?).

Well, it seems to me like you could buy the properties as individual things. Certain properties like 100 Bullets should still be worth a decent amount if you get a decent amount of stuff with it. That was supposed to be Acclaim's hit game, and their way out of the basement of video game developers.
On the other hand, properties like every incarnation of NFL Quarterback Club should be completely worthless.
Certain titles, depending on the agreements, may still be worth a little bit of money.

What are you talking about? NFL Quarterback Club 99 was an AWESOME NFL game.

I don't know if you're serious or not...
But to re-release NFL Quarterback Club 99 now would mean renegotiating rights with the NFL (which as we all know is exclusively held by EA) to re-release it. And for what point? A compilation of old sports titles?
I would buy any of those game's rights at $20.00 or less just to say I owned it, but I don't think there would be one reason to actually pay more than that for anyone. The WWF properties, even though it might not be easy for them to be released, would be worth more because they are the type of thing that goes into a compilation. But again, the problem comes in of could you get a new contract from the WWE *and* get the source to edit.
I'm fascinated, and if anyone wants to go in on my, "purchasing a crap title that Acclaim actually owned for super cheap" idea, maybe we can score a useless NFL or NBA game.
I'm interested in some other stuff for real though. We'll see what happens.

You'll have to go to RARE. They're the ones that made the games.

I have a feeling that even bids of a couple hundred might not be allowed.
Best of luck Dan if you try to get the rights to something, with your history they'd take you a lot more seriously than if one of us called.

I'm going to definitely be keeping an eye on this one. I'm interested in seeing what these go for.
