I searched for this and couldn't find anything on this. Anyway on to the topic.....

As on late I've been thinking about expanding my small GB & GBC collections. I looked through the guide on which titiles that are the hardest to get and lots on titles are R5 and R6 but I couldn't find what are the hardest to get titles for the systems. So what are the hardest US released GB & GBC titles to get? A list would be helpful when looking for games at game stores and flea markets. Thanks in advance.

this is a very hard question to answer. For one there isn't a huge crowd into collecting handheld games like these and second there are a ton or rare games for these systems. many games had smaller print runs. GB and GBC seem to have been a test market for game ideas and such.

Tough call because nobody really collects for it.
I don't think there is anybody who has complete Gameboy or Gameboy Color collections, so nobody would be able to say "this game was the hardest for me to find."
DreamTR might know a bit about this.

The Izec sewing cartridge went for like 60 on ebay once, so i would guess that is the grail of GBC games

Try the rarity guide, searching for U.S. releases with scarcity >= 5.

Cannon Fodder is (Or was) rather rare if I recall. Resident Evil Gaiden is fairly hard to come by too, and Pokemon Crystal is fairly *Rare* (Read: Sought after, not technically a rare though)

Then you have the Final Fantasy Legend games and FF: Adventure which are also fairly sought after too.

Obviously, if you have certain common games but in sealed condition, it could increase the rarity value tenfold. Ie, Tetris... A sealed Tetris would surely be worth a mint these days...

Buck Futter is hard to find as well.

Final Fantasy Legends is hard to find, in fact they were selling a prototype on ebay for Final Fantasy Legends II, the auction may still be up.

The original print runs of the FF Legend series are relatively hard to find and are considered 'collector's items', but not the second print run - the reprint that happened at some point in the GBC lifespan.

The rarity of these games goes up very high when you take into consideration if the game has a BOX or not.

I would say Mike Etler would know much more about said rarity on some of this stuff than I would. I am trying to go for a complete BOXED set, but some games seem to be much harder to find than others. I don't really count the "Sachen" Games for Game Boy, nor do I count the Interact unlicensed GBC games. Those could be had in the very beginning if you contacted the company, but their "US" release status is pretty skewed. To put rarity in perspective, I have had complete copies of those games before I even started collecting GB/GBC games, but I am STILL looking for the Spud's Adventure box, and we are still trying to find out the existence of Hercules, Robocop, and ISS '99 as official USA GBC releases.

I would say the hardest Game Boy game to find in the USA LOOSE would be Amaz'n Tater. You can regularly obtain all of the GB releases from ebgames.com at decent prices, but this, Toxic Crusaders, Gear Works, and a handful of others never show...

Not to wander off topic too far, but the Toxic Crusaders game on Gameboy is actually really fun; way better than the NES or Genesis incarnations. It's a fairly blatant knockoff of TMNT: Fall of the Foot Clan, but maybe that's why it is fun.

The cart is no longer available through the manufacturer, nor the sewing machine itself, but I was able to buy the instruction manual from them for about $15. Pretty interesting item in itself, really...there's all kinds of screenshots and such in the instructions on how to execute different patterns and sewing techniques.

I also recall there being a rare sonar fishing cartridge, not a game, but a tool to find fish in the water.

this is reminding me of the time i bought a second boxed copy of megaman for gameboy .i was at a pawnshop and they had a perfect copy of it so i shelled out $20 for it and my best friend thought it was stupid.i think its near impossible to really talk rares on gameboy.being that most games were owned by young kids im sure most were destroyed or look like garbage.at the used place i work at we get so few games in per week.over the years ive lucked out finding mint in box games but i cant imagine its that easy of a thing to come by.

This goes without saying. You don't need to post this in every single topic about rarity. NOBODY CARES. o_o

DreamTR
10-05-2005, 05:16 PM
Cauterize, more clarification, with an original box ;) If you have THAT, I want it.

Cosmo Tank is NOT hard to find at all.

The Personal Organizer games, are you referring to the Infogenius stuff, or the unlicensed Game Boy cart by Innovation?

THe boxed Konami games in the UK are "wanted" but not necessarily hard to find. It's like saying the Final Fantasy games are tough to find, boxed first party games, etc. It's safe to say this thread is about US releases only.

Damn, I used to have a boxed version of that. I remember it was only £8.99 and at the time it was state of the art where personal organisers go!

I also had a load of other GameBoy games I traded back in 199x for a silly amount of money. I regret ever getting rid of my GameBoy classic now, as I had some damn nice games that are now rare. Boxed as well.

Was Resident Gaiden release donly in America? I swear I remember seeing it for sale here in the uK...

I have 4 version 2.0 64M GBX carts. I will never sell them though. You can still buy the EMS GB Transferer kit new from here:
http://www.robwebb.clara.co.uk/shop/copiers/copiers.htm

It has even better game compatibility than the GBX kit.

You can't use compact flash cards with the GBX. The GBX cards are Game Boy Color carts with flash chips instead of ROM chips inside.

Yeah, I've seen that on Webb's site before. I hear it is the same as the GB Xchanger, but different...of course I've never had any real clarification on that. I've often wondered about that, but never really asked anyone...

I guess I've wondered these things: Are the flash carts compatible between the two units? How is the EMS unit more compatible? Do they use the same sotware?

Thanks!

The EMS supports more of the Game Boy cart types than the GBX. There are quite a few different types, some include special mappers, sram, etc. Anyway, the EMS cart supports no more than a handful additional games compared to the GBX cart.

Compatibility:
GBX Linker is only compatible with GBX carts, but the EMS linker is compatible with both. However, the GBX PC-side software is incompatible with the EMS linker and visa versa, as far as I know.

I just saw robocop at ebgames.

Also I noticed 2 tetris GB carts and they were both very different from eachother, one of them, the word TETRIS was in pink, the one next to it was red. Also they both had compeltely different pictures of what blocks were falling.

THEN I came home to check out MY tetris cart for gameboy, and to my surprise it was even different then the two I saw in the store. Mine said "dmg-tr-eur" meaning it's a european release right? Also the nintendo seal of quality was round rather than oval and said "ORIGINAL seal of quality" rather than "OFFICIAL seal of qualiity".

No, the Toxic Crusaders cart is easy to find. It's the boxes that are a problem. Also, just because someone can't find a box, cart, manual, etc at a particular time, doesn't mean it's rare. Uncommon maybe, but not rare.

I dunno about that. I've only seen the TC cart once or twice in the past year or two. I would say it's rare.
