Hi all,

It's been awhile since I've typed here at the Retrogaming Roundtable. I just wanted to know when this Atari Retro 2 game system is going to arive here in the good old USA? Or has it already? Cause I just need to play me some good old QuadRun,QuadRun,QuadRun!!! :)

You mean the ol' Atari Flashback 2? Walmart has had them for some time now. But be warned: there's a small flaw in the FPGA design of this first batch's TIA implementation, so the speech in Quadrun is missing, along with a couple sound effects in some other games. Other than that it plays fine, but you might want to wait for later production runs to start showing up at other stores, given the significance of Quadrun in this case. ;-)

Thanks for the info...Bummer that my voice is not working on the first batch of these things...Do you know if they've solved the problem? And if they did, when will the new batch be in stores? The only thing that I'm doing that's a bit weird in the game code is shuting down video to give me more CPU time to do my voice..I can't believe this stumped the hardware people!

I think it had something to do with very slightly incorrect behavior for a certain opcode or TIA call. There was a pretty lengthy discussion about it over on Atariage if you feel like digging for it. I think this only applied to the first couple thousand, i.e. the early ones sent pretty much just to Walmart. The design error was corrected, and updated plans were sent to the manufacturing plant, so I assume they got it all working right.

I wonder if there's a way to tell the updated and the original versions apart. I can see it now...people seeking the OMGR4RE11! "No Steve" version. :) LOL
