Holy moly! What a time to own a Nintendo DS, it would seem! Today saw, literally, a whole bucket load of new screenshots and scans for some newly annouced games! As usual, 4 Color Rebellion (http://www.4colorrebellion.com/), provided great coverage, and sent me toward the official Nintendo forums for the media blowout!

In addition to new scans of Animal Crossing DS and Metroid Prime: Hunters, new screenshots for the following games have also surfaced, including Final Fantasy DS!

Dynasty Warriors
Magical Vacation
Children of Mana
Custom Robo
Final Fantasy
Wario Land
Mario Basketball 3 on 3
Legend of Stafi
Tingle RPG
And many more!

You can visit the thread here (http://forums.nintendo.com/nintendo/board/message?board.id=ds&message.id=1890461).

Furthermore, new screenshots for New Super Mario Bros, Mario & Luigi, and a few others can be found here (http://www.dengekionline.com/data/news/2005/10/05/f2dcec80b07cd9aded81e11e54400d3b.html).

All this after Nintendo annouced Mario Kart DS' release date and pricing, as well as the unveiling of the USB Wifi dongle Nintendo will be offering. What a day!

I'd like to know where the demand for games starring Tingle are, because I want nothing to do with him.

Wario Land! yes! Thank you! :D

That's £30, then. And Play (http://www.play.com/) had it listed at £15, too. It doesn't work on Macs, btw.

Yet, Final Fantasy III is still not confirmed for a North American release (it has to be, though -- Square Enix would be stupid not to localize the last remaining Final Fantasy never released in English...).

I also found out that a remake of Final Fantasy IV (aka FFIII on the SNES) is coming out here in early December for the GBA, with some new extras. You betcha that I'll pick it up! :)

I don't know... might be kind of good. If by good you mean watching a male-fairy type looking guy prance around in green tights.

Mario Basket? What's that?

Mario. Playing basketball. With friends. In 3D. Another winner for Nintendo, I'm betting.

The Sims 2 will be hitting stores soon enough, and Zoo Tycoon will be out before Christmas.

Oh, right.
I was actually reading an article on that today, and I was even going to write a news article on it for the main page.
I guess the word "basket" messed me up. I envisioned a plumber walking around with a basket in his hand collecting coins or something x_x

Absolutely loving it - finally the DS gets some good announcements! Buying 10 games or less for a system that's been on the market for almost a year is not very remarkable.

So, the announcement about the Wifi connector not working on the Mac: does it mean that the DS won't connect at all online via a Mac, or could it do it via another wireless connection? I'm wondering because I have a Mac with a wireless modem. Plus, I have an Airport (802.11g) card in my Mac.

Wifi is wifi - I've already got a wireless router so I don't need that Nintendo adapter anyways. That adapter is just for people who don't already have wireless internet in their network already, from my understanding.

Lady Jaye
10-05-2005, 03:08 PM
Yeah, it figures. Just wanted to make sure, although since the DS itself already has a Wifi card in it, it makes sense that it wouldn't matter if said Mac computer had an Airport card installed already.

I just picked it up today at Game Crazy but the guy said they only got three in. Weird.

I am yet to play it because I have some other things to do today and I'm afraid I would not get anything done if I start this game up.

I want the Tingle game, for the sole purpose of knowing it'll be trippy as hell.

But yeah, a hell of a blowout of DS news. Two questions though... what is the Mario Kart price and release date? I musta missed that. And two, is the USB adaptor only comptatable with the DS, or could I possibly use it for other wifi compatable devices?

I'd imagine that someone could write a driver that would make it work as a regular wifi adaptor, and/or make it work with other devices. Give it a few months after it's released. ;)

A custom driver has already been written for wifi cards with the RT2500 or RT2560 chipset that allows the DS and wifi card to "talk"....

Didn't that come out in Japan for GBA a couple years ago? I seem to remember reading about it in NP.

Also, I really confused about Wifi thingy. I'm not too good with hooking things up on computers, and do they work with all computers?

Lady Jaye
10-05-2005, 07:08 PM
Wi-Fi (aka 802.11x) is a wireless connection protocol used to connect peripherals (such as a modem or a router) to a computer. This is usually made possible by installing a wireless card in the computer. The current protocol is 802.11g (802.11b is the older, slower one). Apple's own Wi-Fi product line (including the Mac-compatible Wifi card) is called Airport.

The Wi-Fi-to-USB adapter licensed by Nintendo for the DS is made for PCs that don't already have a wifi card. By using that adapter, you can connect wirelessly online with the DS through your computer.

Here's a more thorough definition of the Wi-Fi protocol: http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/W/Wi_Fi.html

Some Zelda DS details have surfaced (http://revo-europe.com/news.php?nid=8323). Thankfully (in my opinion), it won't be a continuation of the Four Swords series. The game will also feature a new control system, of which Eiji Aonuma had this to say:

What I can tell you is that it's going to use the touch screen for a very unique control system that people have never experienced in a Zelda game before. I think one of the important elements of the Zelda series has always been that you feel like you're in the world doing the things that Link is doing and touching the things that Link is touching. This time you'll be able to use the touch screen and actually touch those items and objects yourself.

Away from Zelda, and ASH (Archaic Sealed Heat) sounds very promising (http://ds.advancedmn.com/article.php?artid=2698), even at this early stage! Even though the images are blurry, it looks very intriguing.

Actually there's two of them. No idea if we'll get the other medical game though.

As for Mario Basket, when I first saw that up on the list I thought it was going to be a sequal to Mario & Wario which is perfectly suited for the DS. Ah well. Mario Basketball is less awesome, but cool anyway.

Mario Basketball is less awesome, but cool anyway.

I'm nervous about the use of the touch screen to control the ball movement, but I'm sure it'll work well. I have every faith.

Plus, plenty of screenshots for other upcoming games that I don't believe people have seen, can be found here (http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/game/docs/20051005/ndc.htm). Of particular note is Mario Basketball 3 on 3 (http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/game/docs/20051005/ndc06.htm), as the screenshot demonstrates the touch-screen mechanics a little.

Jesus, there seems to be a ton of T-virus monsters in every one of those screen grabs. Also, since Capcom is apparently re-using the first zombie cutscene, who wants to lay down some money that Capcom won't reinstate Kenneth's head for American players?

Plenty of new details about Mario Kart DS have surfaced here (http://ds-x2.com/index.php?id=4294).

Highlights include D-Pad control that is (apparently) very similiar in feel to that of an analogue, viewable Kart statistics, a 32x32 pixel decal editor, and various new details on multiplayer and the available game modes. It gets better and better, basically.

A couple of cup and retro tracks have also surfaced. You can read about them here (http://ds-x2.com/index.php?id=4283).
