View Full Version : How far would you go for a rare item.

From the ADD PS2 headset to the NES hands free controller, some of the toughest items to find are just a condition away. If writing a letter to Nintendo about your made up sick brother would net you a hands free controller would you do it? How about faking ADD and haveing the insurance pay for the ADD headset?

No.
As much as I'd love to have something extremely rare like that in my collection, no way in hell I'd lie to get something that would otherwise go to a person who really needs it. I'd rather see a one armed man enjoying a video game than me having a R10 controller sitting on my shelf collecting dust.
Now, if Nintendo gave away a controller for EVERY person that wrote in...yeah, I'd lie, and I'd make up a good lie too. If it required me going in and picking it up with my arm in my shirt...I don't think I'd go that far.

Nobody "really needs" a game controller. It's not insulin. Why not? I'd love to have one of those.

Well, I would lie to get something as long as i wasn't legitimately hurting someone in the process.

I'd probably lie so I could get someone else's dose of insulin as well. I figure it would make decent cock lube, or Gravy Train mixer for the dog. You need insulin? Go make your own. I do.

I'd lie for anything if it was free. I don't care who gets harmed as long as they are not dead. Call me evil if you like but this question comes up, "How many people will be altruistic with your code, and how many will sell it off?" -Anti Trust
Nobody "really needs" a game controller.
That is true. You don't need to play games to live. Though I will go through withdrawl syndrome but I will surive with out games.

However, being that I am just an ol' softy at heart, I would definitely consider selling the one armed man my Power Pad after I took his hands free controller. He can pretend to be ROB and run the blue and red cylinders on Gyromite for 999 seconds at a time, or (for a small consideration) I could provide him with a copy of SMB/ DH/ WCTM.

I don't know if I have a good-guy complex because I play games, or if its the other way around (probably the latter) but I don't lie, and I wouldn't to get an R10 item. If I ever become rich and famous, I'll be able to afford the occasional rarity. No amout of money can buy honor.

Honestly, I won't deny that the items being described are "rare", but who really wants them? These devices are designed to allow people to play video games who wouldn't otherwise be able to. I can't imagine putting anything like that in my collection. It's not like I could actually use it or feel good about showing it off. Plus, I doubt they have much resale value. There is probably a very, very small number of collectors who would even want this stuff. I sure wouldn't and I pretty much collect for every system.

Definitely. You get what you give. What goes around, comes around. Do unto others... and many more cliches.

No. Too many moral complications. I'm surprised how many people actually would be willing to gimp to get an R10 controller. I have a slightly different perspective here as one of my children actually has a mobility problem with her right arm and hand. Suffice to say she doesn't do to well with the games.
I suppose I could exaggerate the nature of her condition if it meant Nintendo would send me a one-armed controller gratis, but honestly the thought of doing this never occured to me until I read this thread.
Instead I'm planning on building my daughter a set of single-handed controllers for a couple of consoles (2600 & NES, maybe others depending how these go). It'll be a good learning experience and hopefully give me some knowledge to share with the rest of the community. Even if it doesn't work, I guess I'd rather fail honestly than succeed by morally flexible means.

Finite supply plus moderate demand would almost certainly mean somebody who really could use the one you bought will probably be left out until and if new units are made. Just because you don't see someone being left out doesn't mean it's not happening.

Hey...i need one of those one-armed human nintendo controller thingys...
dust smust...as long as i have one, and my collection is complete...
like they are gonna use it when the next gen systems in 5 years come out powered by mind control splicing where one plays games with eye flinches and jaw jutting...
i'll just get it at goodwill eventually any way (incomplete and broken) on a $1.29 monday...Why not just get one NOW... before the bird flu hits and we all die anyway...
He who Dies with the most toys wins...right?

Insulin as cock lube? Somehow I don't think that it would ever beat Vaseline or Crisco, even if it doesn't eat holes through condoms like they do. I'll stick with the good stuff.
Oh yeah, I wouldn't fake ADD to get one of those ADD controllers, but I would forge a doctor's note for one of those old SNES LifeCycles to play Mountain Bike Rally on!

Wouldn't the suction-cup base quickshot controllers for both consoles work well for her? As long as the NES version has separate A and B buttons on the triggers.
Just ram the controller down on a smooth surface, and she can play one handed.
As for the topic at hand...
No. There are so many more important things than games. What would this R10 do for me, other than give me a feeling of shame?

No way. I've said it before and I'll say it again- the only reason I even pick up R10's is because I can resell them to acquire something that I really want- whether it is rare or not. I would never consider putting someone disabled out of getting the oppertunity to enjoy playing video games just so I could have something that was only meant for handicapped people. It doesn't matter what rarity it is if it means taking from the "poor". If your going to steal, steal from the rich. (insert Robin Hood here)

Words to live by.
I personally would not lie like this for a fucking controller, a NWC cart may be a different story however.

Look at all those "no way" votes that just started rolling in its going to be neck and neck if this keeps up. "No way" can that be.
These last few posts have scared people off and they aren't voting what they would really do. It appears the same people who would be willing to obtain that rare item are also the same people who won't admit to it.

I'm not saying that I wouldn't make an elaborate story to get a discount on a rare item, at a store or something.
What I am saying is that I would not take advantage of handicapped people. If the item were something rare, like an NWC cart, or something that everyone has access to, then I wouldn't mind stretching the truth. I just don't think it is very good character morally to do something like that to someone who is less fortunate, especially when it concerns an item that is only supposed to be for the less fortunate.

I'd do some pretty deviant stuff to get an R10, but nothing like that.
It would depend on the game too. I wouldn't really do anything morally wrong for any rare game that I don't need (a rare game for any console that I dont' collect for). But if it was a rare NES game or something, I'd lie to somebody about its value but would never steal it or anything.
