there are NO arcades anywhere around here except at the movie threater and they won't let you play any until you buy a ticket...

I work at scandia in solano county and I can say that we offer some old school games that work great and new school games also. Most of the games work fine. One thing that supprised me was that missile command still works just fine despite it's age. Also, the Initial D machines have never broken down, ever. God I want the NAOMI system now. To hell with chucky cheese.

The last few "arcades" around my way stink, too. There's a neat place about an hour from me that's sort of an underground, Japanese arcade, but I haven't been there yet. These days, when I'm in the mood for a good arcade, I just leave work and go home.

There's a bar/bowling alley nearby that has a pretty decent arcade. About 6 pinball machines, and maybe 25 arcade games. Lots of classics, plus the expected ddr, golden tee type stuff.

There's another arcade not too far, an Alladin's Castle, actually that is way worse. All it is is either driving games, ticket redemption, gun games, or dance stuff. The only upright regular arcade games they really have are fighting games. I think there might be a galaga and ms. pac man too, but that's about it.

I've found two places in Chicago that have decent arcades. One is the Diversy River Bowl bowling alley, and the other is a place called Diversions on McCormick south of Devon somewhere. I dig these places because they have Ultracade machines and Diversions in particular has a few older machines. Their Ms. Pac-Man is on crack. It's running at about 1000 times the default speed, and the music almost sounds like white noise because it runs so fast. There's some old dude that's there playing it every time I go (he just seems like a cab driver. I don't know why. He just does.) and he yells at people playing the neighboring Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 machine if they touch him while they play. Kind of wierd.

The thing I can't find much of around here is pinball. Diversions has Lord of the Rings and Rollercoaster Tycoon, but the bowling alley has absolutely no pinball. Pathetic.

The Nathan's on Old Country Road in Carle Place, NY (Nassau County, N.Y.) or whatever it is called is passable. Not great by any means but can give you a fix now and then. I hit a little Wrestlefest there from time to time. Then I run through Soul Calibur also.

Peter Pan in Bay Terrace (Queens, N.Y.) is... is... a shell of its former self. They used to have at least double the space and a much better assortment. Now they have so many of the skee ball and other ticket giving machines it is tough to maneuver to get to a video game. They do have air hockey and some decent pinballs. The VG's are sparse though. The change guy is just an unhappy person.

Near the Whitestone Bowling Alley there used to be a sweet arcade. Sadly no longer.

Aside from that the Chucky Cheese in Astoria is mobbed by munchkins. So bring the coldeez if you brave that germfest
:D

That's a lot of oldschool games. I wonder if they'd notice if I sorta walked off with Paperboy.
