S1lence & myself were talking in the bender, and I do not know of anyone who has a complete game gear collection! I would LOVE to see pics, but man this system may be harder to get boxed games for than gameboy!

I remember throwing all the game gear boxes out at Funcoland over 5 years ago. sad. :-(

Anyway, I hear it's near impossible. Thoughts?

Yeah and all that seems to be on ebay are the re-releases from Majesco. I can't believe that this system is really that hard to collect for.

I've been desperately searching for a complete US copy of Fantasy Zone Gear for some time now. TONS of European copies out there, and a good number of Japanese ones, but you'd be amazed how hard it is to come across a complete US copy of this game (the US copy has the angular yellow Fantasy Zone logo).

Heh. I had one when I was 8! I promptly threw the box & manual out after Christmas.

What did I know!?

Adol (I think that's right) has a complete JPN GG collection.

I have 68 or so US GG games and all but three (I believe) are boxed. How many are there?

There's got to be around 150-180 or so I think..I have around 115 games, 80 of them are boxed..have not tried collecting for this yet, but I will after Game Boy. There's a LOT of bootlegs out there on this one too, so be careful.

They have really dried up on eBay over the last few years. I got most of mine four or more years ago. Unboxed I can find in lots of places, but I'd prefer boxed first.

Also, someone needs to overhaul that Game Gear list. Baby Boom did not come out, wtf?

Games that wer released in expendable packaging are going to be hard to find complete anyway. But I think the fact that it was a portable compounds the problem. People might have been willing to keep nes boxes or whatever around but the whole purpose of the game gear was supposed to be mobility. Bye bye cardboard.

Too bad they didnt put individual cartridge artwork on those plastic clamshells.

Custom clamshells, that would be sweet.

According to the Advanced Guide there are 256 U.S. Releases.

I've got like 4 games, and my rarest is probably that lame Tom and Jerry game, or some weird Speedy Gonzalaz game.

Check out the second page of this thread (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=54394&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0) for a list of games that have not been confirmed that are still in the online guide.

It's more than that - there's about 200 Euro releases, and I think it's closer to 250 in the US.

I haven't shared this yet, but over the weekend I went to the dollar store and found 8 boxed and almost mint NEW unopened Game Gear Games for a buck a piece! five copies of Sports Trivia, two copies of Donald Duck, and a copy of Battletank. Yes they were at a dollar store called Deals. What a place to find GG games huh!

Any tips on how to check if its a bootleg or not?

I've been collecting GameGear actively for a few years now. I buy most of what I find in the wild as long as its complete, but little to no Ebay. I'm up to 17 games with 8 of those being Majesco reissues. I consider it to be very hard to collect for. Its at least as hard to find as complete GB games, but the prices tend to be a bit cheaper.

G Sonic and Panzer Dragoon Mini are the most expensive ones ( and the last games released in japanese market as well,G Sonic came out in December 96 if i remember correctly )

GG Aleste 1,Fray, Shining Force Gaiden Final Conflict are vlauable too

Now if you're speaking of RARE games,even if they're not extremely expensive,i'd say all acclaim ones,like True Lies,Crash Dummies,Batman Returns,Robocop 3...

jajaja: the games, boxes, manuals are really faded, almost look copied like the gBA bootlegs, but they have a higher rate of quality. Usually sold in Turkey.

Are you referring to games like the ones sold by this guy (http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=perfect-auctions&frm=1728)?
He's based in Turkey and constantly has rare GG titles for sale pretty reasonably - are you suspecting them of being boots? If so, they're probably the best ones I've seen.
Frankly, I'd be amazed if there's a big enough market to produce bootleg GG titles on that kind of scale - old warehouse stock would be a much more plausible explanation.

I have 76 games for my GameGear, all unboxed, but all with minty-mint instruction manuals. I bought most of them with some settlement money that I had burning a hole in my pocket. I drove all over the city one day and bought every GG game that I could find. That was one day that I'll always remember. I called it my citywide GG search. When I got home I had bags and bags and bags full of GG games, all the accessories, a carrying case, and of course a system. Too bad I threw out all the boxes, but you know GG boxes are the worst about getting crushed, so it's not likely you'd ever find anyone with a boxed GG collection in mint condition. The boxes were designed to be thrown away, you could tell just by looking at them. They only opened from one side, and the hang tag was actually part of the box. Who would really want to keep a box like that?

I've started on a selection of EURO game gear games, not all of them but some. So far i have Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic Chaos and Sonic Triple Trouble all complete. Apparently Tempo Jr is on its way but im losing faith in the Postal Service every day.

i wondered about this myself, as i was trying before i found out how many there are. being uneducated on the system, i had figured there couldnt be more than 100-125 games. then i hit 130...then found Dp...

i only have <50 with boxes, but i have about 145 games. i almost never see them around anymore. id be happy to see a photo of 200 or more loose carts...

trouble with mine also is most were bought used, so i have no way to tell if they are pirates, imports or domestic releases.

I like the system quite a lot and would love to complete it someday as I'm a huge sega collector. I've got around 25 games I believe, almost all boxed except for about 5, and I have around 70 empty boxes, almost all with manuals. Once I do start to decide working on game gear, I'll have quite a hefty start thanks to all those boxes I bought off a closing game store ;D.

I have about 20 or 30 Gamegear games and I even have the Master Gear. I really enjoy some of the games like Ristar, Dragon Crystal, and Shining Force: Sword of Hajya. I try to buy gamegear games when I find them cheap. It's just a shame that the Gamegear can only work for a couple of hours on brand-new batteries. In fact, I decided to bring my gamegear on a band trip so I could play some shining force. I put in almost-brand-new batteries and it worked for less than 30 minutes!

Adol, how hard is it to find a new copy of Sonic Drift 1? That one never came out in the US market. If I ever got any JP GG games, I would want to start with that one.

Personal opinion its not that hard to find if you're patient. I dinna own it but i dont think its gonna take time. Not like getting a PAL Blue Box copy of World Championship Soccer 2.

I do. I don't think it's that hard to get if you're looking for one. They were sold in the "Sports Bundle" at Wal-Mart and TRU and EB back in the day... that's massive distribution.

I have also seen sealed boxed game gear carts at Deals dollar store in the past as well. Multiple copies of sonic 2, basically.

I've seen a handful of boxed games on my trips to madison as well. My gamegear doesn't realyl work though so i'm not collecting much yet...but they do fit into that sega stripe packaging and I'm sure someday I'll hate myself enough to start.

I have a blue Game Gear with TV tuner with case, battery pack, and FM tuner. I also have about 150+ US games, and best of all...I paid a $1 a piece and went to 8 different Game Crazys to find 150 different titles. That was a good day indeed!

I've got a blue gamegear, it belonged to my sister. She got one years ago and I remember seeing mass amounts of them, so it's pretty common. We also got the tv tuner for the two systems as well. Man, that thing came in handy a few times during some blackouts here. No power? Time to go grab the old game gear, hehe. Of course, you could only watch long enough to hear what was going on with the power and then it died horribly.
