That's the Model 2 Genesis. That thing sticking out of the side is probably for the Model 2 Sega-CD.

What you're looking at on your Genesis is the expansion slot, most commonly used to affix the Genesis Model II you have to the Sega CD system like so:

Genesis Model I has the same thing. No big mystery, and a CD expansion is worth picking up if you don't already have one.

Sorry, I can't help you with Elmo cart.

Actually, that's the 'dongle' that came with the 32X for you to put on the system for some reason. This has been discussed here before. I've got a bunch of them at the GOAT Store right now. The description might say it best:

No one seems to have any clue what these were for, but if you bought a 32X and didn't have a Sega CD, you were supposed to put it on the end of your Genesis. If you don't, nothing happens. If you do, nothing happens. But at least you can say that you have an official Sega dongle.

Hmmm, maybe some weird FCC thing? 32x seemed to have some major hacks to rid it of the emission problems.

I have no idea, really. They tell you to affix it to your system, but like I said in that description -- if you don't, nothing happens. And if you do, nothing happens. I've tried a bunch of different stuff...

The FCC thing makes sense, as if the customer didn't do it and it was emitting something weird, Sega could just say that they didn't follow the directions.

Weird thing, that 32X is.

That Elmo game is an R5 in the rarity guide so it is among the tougher to find N64 titles, usually fetches between 15-20 complete on ebay. As for as enjoyment goes, its got some nice graphics and a good deal of voice acting (something which a lot of n64 games lacked), but it most likely won't be in your N64 for long.

Here is some info for you. - I do not know this as a fact, but this is what i heard:

On some genesis systems, the connector (Or dongle, as you called it) is required to be connected onto the genesis for the 32x to work. However, if you have a SCD hooked up to the Genesis, there is no need for the connector.

Hmm i wonder if i need one of those because my 32x wont work on my 1989 Hi Def Graphics Genesis. Anyway my 32x works without it on my other genesis with or without the cd.

Model 1 Sega Genesis is the best one ever.

Oh yeah speaking of 32X, I had a horror story with my Genesis/32X combo. Don't wanna scare nobody so I'd rather not talk about it.
