A few people that are on a gaming e-mail list I'm on recently got Dreamcasts and they are wondering if it's still possible to play games online with the system. I really don't know but since it's now a system of the past, I said I'd be surprised if you could. Am I wrong? I'm pretty sure this has been asked before (I'd be surprised if it hadn't been) so excuse my stupidity on this topic... x_x

I do know Daytona and Alien Front Online are no longer playable online. I haven't checked the DC section for a few months so I don't know what else is out.

Someone needs to create a way to do modem to modem games.

That won't work unless you hack the game itself. Most online games are hard coded with specific destination IP address. It'd be nice if someone could buy the right to the IP address and set up his own game server. Keep PSO online longer but without the cheating or duping.

I think Sega.net stopped on the first of the year.

I can still connect to Phantasy Star Online, and Quake 3. Quake 3 is still pretty fun, but PSO is of course a wreck unless you meet a friend for a locked game.

Alien Front Online, and 4x4 Evo don't work anymore, guess they are gone.

Unreal Tournament I will check shortly, I haven't checked it in a while, i'll post back if it still works.

Those are all the games I have that are online, so they're all I can comment on, the better question is can you find someone to play with, and that answer is, a few, but not many at all.

Sweet Unreal Tournamnt still works, and there were actually about 20 people on the server.

So you can definitely tell your friends that PSO, Quake 3, and Unreal Tournament still work, and while there aren't that many people on the servers there still are some.

Also, let your friend know i'm here, and would be glad to hook up with them, and play, cause I still love all 3 of those games.

SegaNet? SegaNet closed doors around the first of January, or earlier, they aren't around anymore. I play games on my Dreamcast like I always did, with my local isp, and the phone line plugged directly into the Dreamcast modem.

Actually, um, i'm typing this on my Dreamcast right now, heh, my PC blew up in November, and I still haven't replaced it, lol.

Did what cost anything? SegaNet?

If you mean SegaNet, yeah it was like $20 a month, but it was nothing more than an isp, actually not even as good, and there was really no use in using it.

They touted increased speed, and less lag, but it was all a big joke, local isp's worked just as good, cause I got to experience SegaNet for free when it first debuted, and it was actually slower than my local isp.

If Sega would have offered server side saves, and worked on actually making SegaNet worth it, they wouldn't have sunk. Hell, people were hacking SegaNet anyway, and getting it free constantly. A big mess.

SegaNet made the announcement in August of last year that SegaNet would be free till the end of 2002, and then they would be closing doors.

As far as what I pay now, I just pay $20 for my local isp like I always have.

Is that what you wanted to know?

Does PSO have a monthly fee now? I have PSO v2 and I've never played it. If it required Seganet registration, and Seganet is gone, how do you play?

v1 is still free to play last I checked, American v2 still requires paid license to play. And no it didn't require Seganet, the Hunter License is obtained elsewhere, check with your PSOv2. European V2 is free to play online >:( lucky them.
