View Full Version : What happened to Nintendo's Seal of Quality?

Anyone remember when it used to be "Official Nintendo Seal of Quality"? I noticed that some of my newer GameCube games, and my Nintendo DS games, it is now just "Official Nintendo Seal".

Why did they change it? The text difference in the manuals is:

Official Nintendo Seal of Quality
This official seal is your assurance that Nintendo has reviewed this product and that it has met our standards for excellence in workmanship, reliability and entertainment value. Always look for this seal when buying games and accessories to ensure complete compatibility with your Nintendo product.

All Nintendo products are licensed by sale or use only with other authorized products bearing the Nintendo Seal of Quality.®

Official Nintendo Seal
This official seal is your assurance that this product is licensed or manufactured by Nintendo. Always look for this seal when buying video game systems, accessories, games and related products.

Nintendo does not license the sale or use of products without the Official Nintendo Seal.

So is Nintendo no longer guaranteeing that products they produce or license will have quality, be reliable or have entertainment value?

Maybe they realize some of their games suck and hope no one catches this seal.

LOL I'm going with this guy.

Seriously though I guess it just got kinda corney to them so the ditched the idea.

Actually, Nintendo probably realized that most 3rd party games suck and had to change it because of crappy 3rd party games.

Haha i was thinking of saying the same thing. So many bad games these days that they dont qualify for "seal of quality".

GBA games still have Seal of Quality mark, atleast what I can see. I also checked some of my PAL Gamecube games, they also have Seal of Quality.

IMHO, since Nintendo stopped censoring their games (they used too before ESRB ratings for games...) they now don't want to take the added responsability it provides...

I think it still holds true for Nintendo, but no third-party developers.

That would support my theory that their games are "checked" by them, but the third party developed ones aren't...
