While at BJ's someone mentioned of a mini gamecube while we were looking at video games there. I mentioned it at EB Games, the clerks never heard of it. Has anyone heard of this new system?

There are a lot of people who beleive that the next incarnation of the GameBoy line will be a portable GC. Since the discs are small, it kind of makes sense, but I don't think decent battery life could be acheived.

There's no way (I don't think) that Nintendo would release another version of a Gamecube. The console is meeting its death really soon, and Nintendo knows not to try to push it any further by making an entirely knew model that nobody will buy. Plus, the origional is allready pretty freaking small anyways.
As far as a handheld goes, it will be done... eventually. The handheld technology is always one generation behind the home-gaming technology, which means that a 'gamecube-like' handheld will be out sooner or later.
I think.

Here it is the next gameboy. Off topic: I really think Nintendo should release a portable Gamecube and name it the Nintendo Gameboy cubed. The gamecube would finally get the respect it deserves and with a huge library of games it would destroy the comp.

I'm quite sure that is just an artists depiction of what one would look like.

PSP's and Mini Disc's seem to manage Ok, and the discs aren't much smaller. It would be more like a portable Cd player more than anything I guess.

Don't they have 3" portable Cd players in Japan already? I remember seeing one in FFVIII as well. I'm pretty sure they have 3" Cd players in Japan as they tend to have a big market for 3" Cd's over there...

And with new info-lithium batteries, devices last almost forever! Digital camera's for instance have a tremendous battery life on them compared to what they used to have. I remember my first digicam used to take four AA batteries, and after a dozen shots with the LCD on, they were dead...

The GBA uses info-lithium, an dthat lasts for ages. All they'd need to do is maybe increase how many they would requir to power a cd drive, and they are away! Even if they quadrupled the number of batteries, the unit would still be pretty small...

As for size ~ The Lynx and Game Gear were considered portable at one point. The PSP is consdered a bit of a brick these days though... Just what size would people honestly be able to put up with for a portable handheld GameCube? I'd be more than happy to lug around something with the dimentions of a Game Gear, although these days you kind of expect it all to be included in something no bigger than a PSP. If Sony can do it, I can't see why Nintendo can't...
