View Full Version : Favorite non-emu handheld game?
Since getting my PSP, I'm spending more time with a handheld than I ever have before. Got me to wondering which handheld games I've had the most fun with.
I remember the sense of accomplishment upon finally bagging all of the Pokemon in Pokemon Blue. Took some careful trading with two linked Gameboys and my copy of Red. Starting a game three times with Red and choosing a different starter Pokemon each time, then trading it to my Blue. Good memories.
Another one was Brian's Adventure (correct title if memory serves). It was a GB black n white game that was a sequel/prequel to Quest 64, but was a real RPG.
I'm finding all PSP games to be satisfying, but out of my collection of 11 games, there hasn't been that one personal favorite yet. Not to sound cliche, but Lumines is close to containing that good feeling when playing it.

Dr. Mario on Gameboy, followed by Lumines on PSP.
Advanced Wars DS, Trace Memory and Meteos had me feeling like a 14 year old boy.

Mole Mania, for the love of God, Mole Mania. Great little puzzler (akin to LoLo) that never got the love it deserved. Thanks to the wonders of emulation and easy Gameboy piracy, it's out there for everyone to enjoy now.
Do whatever you must to play this little gem.
Deja Vu 1&2 for GBC was great, too. The new interface worked perfectly and it was great to finally play Deja Vu outside of an AtariST emulator. 2 of my favorite point n' click adventure games, right there.
Wario Ware is another great one for the road or at home. On the road I play it on my laptop or on my GBA, at home I play it on my Xbox or PC. Any way I play it, I love it to bits and pieces. It just BLEEDS freshness.

I could never beat the farmer on Mole Mania, I've yet to see the ending. I'm close now thanks to my PSP though.

Link's Awakening on the Gameboy.
However, I played/beat the whole thing on my Super GameBoy because I can't stand playing long games on a handheld.
But now I'm playing Oracle of Seasons on my GBC and I don't mind it all that much. 8-)

Going by my recent obsessions, I would say Meteos and Mr. Pants. I went through a few weeks where the only game I would play, console or handheld, was Mr. Pants - and I'm still not terribly good at it - it's tough!

Here are a few of my fav. Game Boy Games:
- Zelda: Link's Awakening (First Game Boy game I got!)
- Tetris (Not much to say, except "It's fun!")
- Wario Land 2 (Wario rocks!)
- Mega Man 2 (Fun, but I beat it within a few hours of purchase!)
- Kirby's Dream Land 2 (It pwns, like CV:HOD!)
- Super Mario Land (Though I can beat it in 30 minutes, it's still fun)
- Pokemon: Blue Version (Hiya! I am Important Doctor!)
- Mega Man Battle Network 3: Blue Version (Fun, but can't touch CV:HOD!
- Castlevania: Harmony of Dessanance (It pwns!)
- Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow (Want to play Dawn of Sorrow, but I don't own a DS yet)

1. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of the Foot Clan-GB
2. Sonic Chaos-GG
They're both pretty easy, but when I was younger I played them to death!

Mario's Picross on GB and Lumines on PSP could keep me entertained for a long time.

Thank you! For one reason or another it seems no one played that wonderful game.
My favorite handheld game is Final Lap Special on the WonderSwan Color, Final Lap gets no respect and this is close to a real arcade port as was ever made. Aside from that, Super Mario Land 2 and Super RC Pro-Am on the Gameboy. SML2 needs a fully fleshed out sequel (not the Warioland followup) on the GBA. Let us also not forget the criminally underrated Donkey Kong on the Gameboy, the one that starts out like the coin-op Donkey Kong but then turns into a massive game built in the spirit of the original with dozens of unique levels.

Spent a long time on the original pokemon, it was such an awesome game. Also spent many many hours (it actually made it worth the cost of the NGPC, otherwise i would of wasted a lot of money on it considering how little i've played any other games on it) on Card Fighters Clash. I guess pretty similar in that you wonder about having battles trying to collect all of something you fight with.
Also KuruKuru Kururin swiftly became one of my favourite games since I've purchased a DS, as much as i love the DS's games (especially Meteos) I think I've simply played this game (and its sequal) for far longer, its just addictive
