I know this is no great accomplishment but I finally got my copies of Metal Slug 1,X and 3 and have purchased Shock Boxes for them as well as downloaded and printed out artwork (Big Bear rocks!). Finally! I have these amazing games to play. No crummy ports, these are the real deal. To actually have a copy of Metal Slug was something I thought I’d never be able to attain but there it is, sitting on my shelf. It’s not the NGH version but hey, who cares!

MVS Metal Slug!!!!:

Here’s my babies:

Like I said, I know this is something owned by many people but I’m just so excited about it!

Awesome work, man.

A lot of the ports were pretty poo, and even some of the PC ports (korean released) were just glorified bootlegs that ran on hacked up versions of MAME :(

Still, can't wait to see how the GBA port of Metal Slug turns out. :)

Very cool. :) I'm jealous of ya, I don't have any Metal Slug games for my MVS just yet. My boyfriend and I bought one at one point, I think it was X, but it turned out to be a bootleg (which the seller didn't even realize). He was nice enough to give us a refund (we had to send it back, of course), but it still sucked. :(

@_@ Very nice! I thought about selling all my console stuff and going after a MVS unit, but I still don't think I'd amass enough $$$$ to get it and the slug games :(

You can pick up a MVS board for the price of a modern console (well...wait...a console that costs around 100 bucks). You can get a cheap-o cab or super gun for a couple hundred more. It isn't cheap, but at the same time there is no need to sell the barn just to buy a cow. ;P

To the original post. Cool shit. Whenever I don't have the cash, I tell myself I'll buy some shockboxes for my MVS carts. When I do have the cash, where does it go? Towards more gams of course. I'll never comit to making those damn ugly carts looking pretty. =(

for MVS, the real deal is a stand up cabinet (which can be had for around $500 or less -- I paid $350 for my near mint 4-Slot) and then you just need the MVS kits, which at most cost $300, with a lot much cheaper (I got ROTD for like $40) and then you would want to get a memory card (I got mine for $25)

the real deal for AES gaming is the expensive set your thinking of with Metal Slug 1 costing in the thousands of dollars range

AES = home console
MVS = arcade cabinet

MVS Metal Slug = Cheap
AES Metal Slug = Almost as much as a car

MVS-kits can go over 300$ if they are complete and from really rare games. World Heroes Perfect and Last Blade 2 kits go over 400$ as far as I know as they are damn hard to find. But yes most kits are under 300$, if you find them as they are harder to locate then AES games.

Cool :) I never knew that MVS games had boxes with artwork. I have Metal Slug 1 and 2 MVS loose and Metal Slug 5 complete, but its in a cartboard box.

He said he downladed and printed out the artwork. I'd assume it's homemade.

they are just the artwork from the AES games

MVS games just come in a plain cardboard brown box with a label on one end.....inside is the cart wrapped in bubble wrap, the mini marquee and some stickers and dip switch sheets

Yep, here’s a link to the site with the PDFs you can download.

http://www.loopyeddie.com/inserts.html

There is also instructions on how to get these things printed as well. You will also need some Shock Boxes as well.

Yeah, the MVS is most certainly not any less the "real deal" than AES. I would argue that MVS is more so the real deal.

I don't think you need a cab for it to be the real deal, though. O_o I mean, there are controller ports built right onto the MVS board (at least on some), and a TV can act just the same as a cab's monitor. I'm sure SNK imagined it being used in that way by some diehard fans.

Not to bash AES (NGH) or anything but I have both the AES and a consolized MVS and with the Unibios I think my MVS blows my AES away. I can play any game made for the MVS in either MVS OR AES mode as well as have access to games not available on the MVS. On top of all this the prices are a fraction of what they are on for the AES titles. Hell, my copies of MS 1,X, 3 and Blazing Star would require a small fortune to have on the AES and I have them all for under $375. Add a fancy shock box and some art and you have an amazing package in my opinion.
