For some reason I was playing Super Mario 3. I was having a grand ol' time, when I started doing the brick duck thing to see where that hidden thing was (in the 2nd world I think there's something in the bricks? I dont remember exactly)

Anyway, I dashed under them, got stuck and just lost interest.

Is there any way I could have gotten out of this trap?

I've done this before, too. I guess that's what the reset button is for.

Wow, and I thought that you could never get stuck in any mario game.

Reset, or let time kill you. That's always fun

Bingo! You have a choice between a ceramic ashtray set or a gift certificate to the Hudson's on Jefferson St.

if you're patient and quick you can take a step and duck just right to get stuck under the blocks again, then just jump repeatedly and you should get out

Common man I thought more people knew how to get out of this ;O

Just do the "slide, and duck" trick. Works everytime for me.

That's how he got stuck in there, but you need to be able to move SOME in order to slide first.

Exactly, if you just walk real fast, then duck, you should be able to get under the block, then just press forward, and keep jumping.

I think there's enough room do to the slide-duck thing. Did you try that? I know I could have gotten out of there.

Judging from the screen shot I would have just let the rest of the time tick by....you'd have 12 more lives to work with! I'm sure taht maybe you could do the slide/duck thing but I can imagine that by the point you got it you'd run out of time anyways before you reached the end of the stage....

slide and duck is way easier with the 360 degree D-Pad sported on the Messiah wireless NES controllers.

It's like doing a quarter circle in a fighting game. Smooth, at least for me.

I have no love for original NES controllers though. Always had a hard time sliding and ducking with them.

Wow, and I thought that you could never get stuck in any mario game.

I've managed to get myself stuck in 1-2 in the original SMB before. It involved some weird scrolling trickery on top of one of the coin platforms.

Plus you can get stuck on top of most of 4th stage castles. You just end up running over to Bowser and waiting for time to run out while you're standing on the roof and he's jumping around shooting fire. Ha ha.

Oh, and then there's that neat trick where you crouch down, swim up on top of the pipe at the end of 2-2 or 7-2, and get stuck in the wall.

I forget if it was smb3 this worked in...duck and continuously press toward the bottom left, I think you eventually get wedged in there....or was that Super Mario Land...

This is a slight digression, but I'm reminded of a bit in Kirby Super Star... in Dynablade, I think, where if you entered this one room and somehow lost your current power, when you exited the room, there would be no way out whatsoever. You'd think that the programmers would ensure that you don't get impossibly stuck in action-platformers such as these...

Haha, yeah that was SML. Come to think of it, that was a very smart mechanic to introduce.
