What were your favorite and least favorite demo kiosk units?
My favorite would have to be the PS2 ones, with their nice screen...
My least favorite would be the gamecube (dirty bongos and broken controller buttons) or the Nintendods units which have white screens from being touched so much

I'm right in the middle of a restoration of an Atari 5200 Kiosk. I'll post up a complete, step by step dissection, but this one is cool because it was built by the arcade division of Atari and is built like a tank because of it.

I'll have to say the first time I saw the original PS2 kiosk I was amazed. The second one is beautiful too.
I've always loved the Super Nintendo ones too.
Least liked.. hrm... I'd have to say the Dreamcast one, it was way too small.

There are no "worst" kiosks. Only worst users of these items. Those are the dirty, careless, savage, abusive sons of byotches who wreck these things. The units that get broken are broken because "people" (selfish bastards) treat anything that is not theirs like total garbage and don't give a fuc{ . I do agree about the dirty bongos though, looks nasty.
They need to keep some wet naps or something by these units and enforce a no moron policy on top of that.

Original PS2 kiosks(the slim silver ones) suck ass since the screen is of poor quality. Really makes the games look like shit. At least the three or more that I've seen look terrible.
The newer ones, with the wider screens, look marvelous.

The Virtual Boy kiosks. I used to spend hours with my face in the "brain blender" at Toys'R'Us. LOL

I like the original GBA kiosk I have at home... but I'd like to get my hands on 2 kiosks a friend of mine has in his room'o'doom... http://www.multikonsolero.de/zockerbuden/thandor.htm
This Playstation kiosk, he uses for his NES:
http://www.multikonsolero.de/zockerbuden/Thandor/mini/d.jpg
And this N64 kiosk which unfortunately doesn't look too good in this picture:
http://www.multikonsolero.de/zockerbuden/Thandor/mini/n.jpg
It has an illuminated acrylic pyramide beneath the console...

That vectrex kiosk that was posted about 1-2 years ago wins hands down.
Second, I would prbably say the Colecovision Kiosk would win for me. Kiosks have gone down hill every generation. PS2/GC/XB kiosks are just generic now, nothing special about em from what I've seen.
I'm partial to the Jaguar kiosk:

It's great because of the RGB monitor - looks amazing. I love the styling of it too.
I've got a big SNES kiosk with a 25" screen too:

It's not as cool-looking as the Jaguar one, and just has a standard TV set so the picture isn't as good, but the red glow of the header light makes for cool ambience in the game room when we're playing multiplayer Halo :)
evil_genius has a cool - massive Genesis kiosk:

I always liked the full stand-up N64 displays, and the current stand-up GameCube ones are really cool looking too.

I'm partial to this guy.

First off, it's very big. Big is good. Second, it doubles as a high-capacity locking game storage cabinet. Third, the arcade-style controls built into the unit are very shweet. Fourth, the 4-switch Woody you see in the middle is strictly decorative. The real hardware was inside and used some trick ROM-switching device to select games.
Admittedly this is mainly a sentimental choice. Despite the fact that I had my own 2600 at the time, I pretty much spent the entire summer of 1982 at K-Mart (walking distance from my house) playing this kiosk instead of my home machine. Why? First It had more games than I did, and secondly it used a color TV whereas my Atari was confined to a black & white :shameful:. Good times.
Around the corner from the 2600 kiosk was an Intellivision kiosk of some sort, but I can't seem to find a picture of anything like it. :?

My least fav would have to be the US dreamcast kiosk such a small screen for an awsome console.
My most Fav would have to be the PS2 or maybe the Dreamcast kiosk's we got here in Australia. Speaking of which i need to clean up my unit I got for free! 8-) 8-)

Dirty Donkey Konga bongos SUUUUUUUUCK!!!
Since I work in the Toys R Us RZone I had to put up with that since DK came out. And the overzealous little kids that pound the shit out of it.
I love having the GBA SP and DS displayed and ready to play but in my store they are mounted RIGHT ON THE SHELVES WHERE THE GAMES GO!!!!!!! They're in the fucking way!! And it's worse when there's a kid sitting there playing for four hours straight and I have GBA games to put out and I have to shift down and they're in the way. So, great handhelds, always great demos in there, WORST POSSIBLE LOCATION. LOL
We used to have an issue with our XBox kiosk being unnaturally loud. You could hear it from the other side of the store. So for a while that was the worst kiosk simply for that reason but I really don't have a favorite or least favorite kiosk in general.

This is almost EXACTLY like the coleco kiosk, except I prefer coleco, and the coleco one is black :)

This thing weighs twice as much how much it looks like it should weigh. My back still hurts from moving it. Worst part about it, I'm moving it again when I move this winter. Stay tuned for the Evil Moving Sale.

I have to admit to being one of those morons, but my 3-year-old LOVES banging on those bongos. LOL

Yeah the Dreamcast ones were nice, I liked the sms one w/ the game selector I liked that idea, you got to choose the games by selecting the appropriate button. But the sega saturn was nice as well.

I dislike the N-Gage kiosk. There's one in Gamestation. Maybe it's just the N-Gage, but it makes it feel really awkward and hard to hold.
Come to think of it, the GBA SP kiosk feels awkward to hold. Maybe it's because it's in a fixed position so I can't twist it around to get comfortable.
I like the look of the Xbox 360 one.

you guys notice the auction for the 360 kiosk is for the kiosk only, not the system? i bet that makes someone pretty pissed...
which ngage kiosk? my EB has one with two units on a big stainless display, that ones nice, as are the cincular wireless store display ones. the ones that sucked were the big 2 ngages on a cardboard display....i actualyl like the other ngage displays...but im an ngage dork, so may be a bit biased.

Thanks to fellow DPer K3V, I got it from an indy game store for $100 as is, with everything pictures, except the stuff in the display case, that was mine, it did some with some losse carts. It needed a little bit of cleaning up and tinkering to get working. I got it sometime in August. Best purchase I ever made.
