do you have a preference for push buttons? are there benefits to using one style over the other when refurbishing cabs (other than originality)?

Preferences:
- Restore something to the original specs if possible and/or not cost prohibitive
- That aside, I prefer leaf switches over the micro switches. The micros just have a cheap "feel" to them, the leaf switches feel sturdier. :)

do you think one style may be better suited to certain styles of games? is either style "faster" say, for button mashing games?

In my experience the "speed" of both is the same, but I've had a slightly higher overall failure rate with the micros. But they're plentiful and cheap, so in the end it doesn't make a lot of difference. ;)

You'll want to make sure the springs in the buttons are nice and new for button mashing goodness though, with either the leaf or micro buttons.

I definitely prefer leafs... and given that leafs are used in pins for high speed, severely momentary contact spots, I would say that leafs are faster. That's just opinion, though.

No need for clicky buttons, yech.

i imagine if you removed the circlip from the bottom of the button itself you could "restretch" the spring to provide more tension?

You can, but if the buttons are 20+ years old, it's only gonna do so much. If there's an issue with the springs, new springs are much better. :)

I personally think it all depends on the game... for a button masher I like micros... but for games that actually need to have a "feel", like most old games... gotta have leafs.

Yes, definitely new springs. Or even new buttons, new leafs can be had easily.

i took them apart and stretched them this morning. they feel a lot better now. i'm sure a new spring would be better, but hey, it was free and only took like 5 minutes. big improvement!

Which of your cabs is it? The JAMMA cab or the cocktail?
