Many of you at the roundtable used to (or still do) associate me with a website called SegaMasterSystem.com. It was in fact the outet that led me to Digital Press (I followed Zektor) and was cherished by many other board members for years.

Despite a thread that was created earlier this year, I'm sorry to have to say it, but SegaMasterSystem.com really is and forever will be a thing of the past.

For a while, as many of you know, the site was under the new control of a fellow SMS fan Sinistral. For months the domain linked to his fan site while he prepared (with my old site as a sort of backdrop) the relaunch of SegaMasterSystem.com.

In a sad turn of events, the site was snatched up by a third party in between the renewel period for the domain. Sinistral and I had both discussed the possibility of this happening, but based on information from the domain provider and Sinistral himself, I was under the impression that he would retain full ownership after a brief waiting period.

This never happened, and in order for myself (I don't expect Sinistral) to regain ownership from this mafia of an internet company, I must come up with 900 dollars.

I will be fair in saying that this in no way was entirely Sinistral's fault, as I (being the creator and caretaker of the site) should have been able to see the deal through without any problems. Call it inexperience or an internet screw job, the whole ordeal has upset me and even made me question why I gave up the site in the first place.

I was under the faux impression that it would always be there for me to be apart of, like Stan Lee and his status with Marvel, but I now fully understand the statement, "You never knew what you had until it was gone."

A deep apology to all the SMS fans who honestly enjoyed what that site had to offer. It was a fun ride, a memory I will always cherish.

I guess the best thing to do now is never look back.

Aw hell, just one last time!

Damn man that really sucks. I can see how it can easily happen - and I hope it never happens to my sites (thankfully no one would want to own mine, unless it was for spite). I'm a huge SMS fan, so you've got my respect for spreading much needed SMS love across the net.

I'd say you could easily get $900 by asking for a $1 (or more) donation from DP members... but the company doesn't deserve it.

Ever consider starting it up with a new name? Or putting your old stuff up on a new website?

Yeah, there's companies out there that simply buy up lapsed domains in order to resell them to the original - sometimes not - owners. Didn't happen to one of my personal sites, but saw it happen to a site that I helped run for a while.

Not fun. Sorry to hear of ya troubles.

Sorry to hear that it's terminal, Tyler. :( Aside from the death of the site, as lamented in the other thread, tt's a shame for such a prime domain name to be swallowed up by some bunch of leechers.

However, anyone looking for an SMS discussion site should point their browser to SMS.com's spiritual successor - sega8bit.com (www.sega8bit.com). It's Sinistral's site as mentioned above, and has the same active forum that used to be at SMS.com. Or of course, there's always the unparalelled excellence of SMS Power (smspower.org) for the more techy/less chatty type discussion :)

Bad luck, dude. Kudos for keeping the Sega love alive for as long as you could :)

How large was the site in terms of size?

My site could probably host you.

This is a thought that crossed my mind. Something like this might happen somewhere down the road. We'll see.

And yes folks, as anagrama pointed out, sega8bit.com is Sinistral's excellent site that prompted his originally planned takeover of segamastersystem.com. It is the closest you'll come to finding another site like sms.com, and then there is always smspower.org for the technical side of all things SMS.

I'd say less than 100 megs. A lot of images and text with a little flash intro. I appreciate your offer. If we could discuss it through email or PM, that would be great.

I'm sorry to hear that man, always remember, there are other Sega fan sites who are more then happy to welcome you and your honor.

We deeply respect your love for Sega.

Especially, I, over at www.sega-spetsnaz.com whom we encouragely invite you over. We too have a SMS section up and running finally. Plus, always looking for new help to make our site grow, as much as DP.

That sucks man. It's always a sad day when a Sega site disappears.

I was worried about this happening to my site, which is why I set the domain name to automatically renew every year. No bastard's taking my name!
