Anyone see the Gametap commericals on CN's Adult Swim lately (dunno if they play anywhere else)? Only seen the ones from Sonic 2 and Pitfall myself.

Yeah, I've seen them. There's also a couple of Dig Dug ones and a Pac Mac.

I would guess they are a game rental service. Pretty sad when my favorite thing on G4 is a commercial.

Those "eye-catch" commercials and other video game programming actually play while you are waiting for a game to download while using GameTap.
They also have regular video game "television shows" that update every week.

The SOnic 2 one is pretty funny, has Robotnik standing around impatiently for Sonic. LOL Just saw the Galaga one this morning too.

I finally saw it, that was funny. Metal Sonic was just laid back about it "So you want a cappacino?"

Has anyone used this service?

I used it. It's actually really well done. I did beta testing for a few months, and saw it develop. It basically has rights to let users play a ton of games from the early arcade days to now.
Nothing you can't do with emulation, but a really nice package, great design. It even has "shows" you can watch within the service. The kind of thing that someone who doesn't really have the energy and time to do emulation would love. (Or someone who doesn't want to break any laws, I guess.)

OH It's like what the phantom wanted to be. but without the console. I love those commercials.
that dig dug one was pretty funny.
While the GameTap IP and service have changed owner and gotten worse, thankfully it seems there is a large archive of their old videos and commercials still online on YouTube. So for all the retrospectives and ads, check out the GameTap video channel on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/user/gametap). While some of them are... not good, many of them are well worth watching.

Well this sure brings back memories! I used to run this channel.
Not a fan of most of this stuff at all, but I'm still really proud of our Sonic documentary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6D9h-4vQUHM

RedEye, when you say that, do you mean the GameTap YouTube channel, or something more such as managing videos on the GameTap service or possibly creating the videos for it?

I just ran the channel, I was too busy doing other stuff within the company to work on the actual videos. I offered a small amount of guidance on the Sonic retrospective but other than that I was pretty hands-off, my job was more about the games.
Man, TheRedEye, people need to give more respect to you around here. You've been a collector for so long, have such an impressive game collection, many rare items therein, and even worked a job like you did at GameTap.
Props to you, good sir!

Wait, was that you on the forums, too? http://www.gametap.com/forum/hey-mr-red-eye-t25282.html I was a forum regular there up until a bit after the Metaboli transfer.
