Did a port of Zaxxon or game ever make it to the Genny? I saw a copy of Zaxxon 3D for Master System the other day, but I don't own that system as of yet. I was hoping that maybe some sort of port made it over on the 2nd gen console?

That may be the closest thing on Genesis hardware with the Zaxxon name but I believe that that game started life as the sequal to Viewpoint and then someone said "hey this is like Zaxxon!" and then it came out with the Zaxxon title. They figured that maybe they could garner more sales with a familiar name i guess.

You coould always pick up a powerbase converter or a mega master to play Master System games on your Genesis.

The Zaxxon 3D on the SMS doesn't feel like a 100% Zaxxon game, either, but it's still pretty fun. The outerspace 3rd. person wave is one of the very best examples of teh unique Sega 3D system. If you haven't heard, it's quite amazing, and in full-color -- it isn't the red/green lense business of most 3D you've seen. It's a rapid screen flicker timed with LCD shutters that flicker inside the glasses, providing for a virtually seamless 3D experience. I wouldn't mind a bit if Sega or some other developer would pick up that technology again, it's the only really reliable 3D I've ever been exposed to.

Maybe Nintendo will make a 3D glasses add-on to plug into their odd-duck remote, eh?

As for the 32X "Zaxxon" game -- not good. I couldn't get into it, it's not anywhere near as playable as either Zaxxon or Viewpoint. It has primitive polygon graphics and a weird insect-morph gimmick that doesn't quite come off. It has a small cult, though, so maybe it will appeal to you, too.

One of my great videogame memories.....seeing some biker dude beat the original Zaxxon all the way through on one quarter while waiting for dinner at Pizza Inn. I was stunned.

SPOILER WARNING :
It has a big robot at the end!

It makes you wonder if someone at Sega saw 2600 Zaxxon.

Zaxxon for 32X I personally don't consider as a part of the series as they just added Zaxxon to the title in the USA to get some more attention. In Europe it's just called Motherbase and in Japan Parasquad, so for me it's no part of the series. The game sucks anyway.

I was hoping that maybe some sort of port made it over on the 2nd gen console?

FYI: The Master System IS Sega's 2nd gen console.

1. SG-1000
2. Master System
3. Genesis

Super Zaxxon only came out for the C-64, I do believe. That's the closest it it caame home. I liked that dragon.

Nope, also on the Atari 8-bit computers / XEGS and Apple II. :) Great game.

Will that workwith a CDX? Cause that's what I'm using.

Yes, they should both work on the CDX, but the PBC will look a little funky.

I thought it was 3rd gen, wasn't there an SG-3000? Of course, these were more computers, so the SMS should count as the 1st gen CONSOLE.

The SC-3000 was a computer based on SG-1000 technology. Add a keyboard to an SG-1000 and you've got functionally the same system.
And the SG-1000 is a console, not a computer, so Raccoon Lad's chronology is correct.

The SG-1000 also received a Zaxxon port, which is much more faithful to the original than the 3D SMS game.
