Ok , first off the pic of the cart , manual and instructions can viewed in this thread : http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=classic;action=display;num=112959417 4

I recently bought this nice looking Tengen Pac Man and was baffled as to why the cart and instructions are not the same as the box art :hmm:

I have done some searching and come up with zip ! I am kind of embarrassed to say that I honestly dont know what is up here ? :embarrassed:

Any help would be appreciated :)

There are two different variations for the box/manual. The matching box artwork came with a typical oversized manual also with matching artwork. The mismatch box artwork came with the typical oversized manual still but the cover is in black + white. The artwork on the manual matches the cart not the box. The cart in both cases was identical as far as I can tell. I hope this clears up a little.

also, the one in question is a "tenth year anniversary" version (according to the back of the box). This one (to my knowledge), didn't come with a poster, but instead with just the b&w manual and a game player response card that is different then the earlier one and a short tegen sleeve. The prior tengen pac-man (still unlicensed), comes with a poster, older "customer response card", colored manual and a long tengen sleeve.

HA... i did have something to add.

AH shit...
and the warning labels on the back of the carts are slightly different.. also the heads of pac-man on the labels are as well. the earlier version has a more solid color to his head, while the later version has a somewhat faded appearence.

The warning labels are different in that the first version says "manufactured by tengen" while the other one does not.

that's about it.

Nice, I didn't know this either! There's another unlicensed box variation as well, though. There are two variations with matching box/manual/cart, each of them having a different "endorsement" field on the bottom right. Here are examples of the two variations from eBay auctions:

That's the package that I ended up with when I purchased the game brand new over fifteen years ago.

speedy...

i really believe that the second picture there was pieced together and that, THAT particular manual doesn't go with it. Although i wasn't aware of those endorsement variations, my copy is that second endorsement version (before the 10th ann. version) and i know that mine is a colored manual (For a fact) since it was an f-sealed... if not... then i guess we can assume there are four variations for this bastard of a game.

It could be that the manual is irrelevant to the box variations. The b&w manual has a different address on the back compared to the colored one, so it could be that Tengen changed the manual for the sole purpose of changing the address (and made it b&w while at it to lower costs or something), irrelevant of the box. In that case it would be possible that four variations exist (5 including the licensed version ;))
