This thing I've been working on for a while... it's near the finish line now. If you want to read a retro based publication with added clickable video, audio and picture gallery material, then take the plunge.

Pre-orders currently are via NoChex (for UK people) or Paypal. We will ship anywhere in the world too.

A nice concept..

However will this zine be similar to Retro Gamer in that I found there was little content on consoles such as Master System, Megadrive, Mega CD, 32x, SNES, NES, Gameboy etc

Retro Gamer seemed mostly to be C64 vs Speccy and that kind of thing, which did get a little boring after a while..

What's the estimated price of this?

As a side note, not only the freelancers for RG were owed money, but a couple of months before the last issue I'd taken out a 1 year extension (no wonder they were offering such a cheap price!) which of course I never got any of.. so they owed me about 16 issues. Paid with debit card so no chance of a refund..

The price is 5£ plus P&P as noted on the website. And there's a disclaimer on the web page that retrosurvival is not affiliated with Retro Gamer Magazine...

As an American idiot, I'd agree that a US price with a shipping estimate would help sell a lot of CDs. I'm in the middle of three things right now and can't look up the conversion and don't know what shipping would cost. Put that info up there and I'll buy one for sure.

Awesome work Matt. I was singing your praises this weekend in Chicago. You're one of the good guys keeping the flame alive!

A lot of this is what was going to be in issue #19 of RG, but of course, never made it.

There is a full contents listing on the website with what will be on there; I'm sure you should find something to interest you as a lot of different formats are covered across the articles in question.

Financially, we only ask that you support us by buying the CD. That's your choice. It was shitty that Live left a lot of subscribers in the lurch with the liquidation.

HOWEVER... there is rumblings of the magazine possibly coming back and anyone with a sub having it honoured by whomever starts the mag again. Maybe. We'll just have to see.

Either way though, the writers (ie. us) were left with far bigger debts (running into thousands of pounds in some cases) and we have NO chance of ever seeing that money.

@Flack - because the accounts are in GBP, then the prices are going to be payable in Paypal via GBP. That makes no difference if you are paying from the US, your card will be charged the appropriate amount of equivalent dollars. But I take your point that posting what the price ROUGHLY is going to be in US$ might help. I'll suggest it as an addition.

I agree with Flack, Mayhem, although no matter what I'll very likely buy it... :)

Well we're getting this issue out of the way first... and if there's enough sales we might consider a second down the line :)

We've had a good response so far, with over 120 pre-orders in the bank. But we need more people from outside the UK to order! So cummon peeps, don't be shy ;)

We've passed "break even" point now so it's looking pretty good to me.

By "break even", we've gotten enough pre-orders that we can fund the production of the CD on all aspects without any money coming from any of our pockets.

Remember, this is going to be a PROFESSIONAL job...

Glossy high colour inlay
Two colour CD print
Professional duplication within a DVD sized box

So tell your friends... and spread the word of Retro Survival ;)

(and yes we still need MORE foreign buyers... I'd say 90% of those so far are in the UK!)

Just preordered. I'm really going to miss Retro Gamer. I hope it can carry on in a CD format. Thanks!

Hi there, I'm the "editor in chief" and I'm glad you are all interested in it.

There's a really good mix of articles covering computers AND consoles. You can read the contents list at the website - www.retrosurvival.co.uk

Plus the CD format has let us add extra video and audio files.

Approximate price is 7 Euros or US$8, plus post and packing. Which means it's cheaper than Retro Gamer was! ;)

Well it's more than just TXT files on a CD if that's what you are thinking ;)

Fully laid out in HTML/CSS with easy to use menu interface, and the usual roll over and click icons. With added video, audio and picture gallery popups at the end of some articles where the original content for RG would have been on the cover CD in the first place.

Clocking in at well over 300MB in size, you get your money's worth :)

Quick update ... I got my CD earlier this week and it's awesome! I didn't count but I think there are about 20 articles, plus lots of extras and stuff. Well worth the money.

In the end, we went with a 1000 print run and we've more than sold half of them so far. So if you were holding off, go order now! :D
