Seriously though, this is a fucking brilliant move and I don't see how PSP can survive it. Nintendo just crushed the PSP under a pile of greasy DS'. All that's left is for Apple to release an Ipod Video with a better screen. Nintendo is a violent baby eating monster when it's handheld market is threatened apparently, and the winner is gamers everywhere. I know where I'll be scamming rare items off of little kids in Animal Crossing while eating burgers and fries this holiday season.
I just heard about this from another forum. This is excellent news!

I was going to read that article buy IGN got stuck in an endless loop of ads...i gave up after having to suffer from the 6th one in a row.
If people were smart they would just avoid McDonalds. After seeing "Super Size me" along with being unable to properly "process" the grease in thier food i've given up on that place.
But thier fries are good every once in awhile.

Super Size Me. The movie makes you realize that fast food makes you impotent.
Seriously though while McDonalds is slowly killing off americans, this deal shouldn't come as a suprise to anyone. Nintendo has had a deal with McDonalds ever since the days of the N64. Hell most McDonalds i go to today, still have Gamecubes set up for the little children.
It's not a deal that will hurt Sony anyways since a lot of McDonalds are going with REAL WiFi so people can use laptops.

I'd say it goes further back than the N64. I used to have some cheapo Mario Bros toys that I got from McDonalds back when the chain was promoting Super Mario Brothers 3 for the NES.

you know, I really don't see how this is going to "Kill" the PSP. Let alone hurt it's sales. The PSP already has wifi not that many games take advantage of it. one by my count. at least U.S. wise. But theres no games at this point that use wifi through the DS. Sorry for the Self debating.
It's cool and all. I can't wait to try it out. But I doubt it's going to really do anything to hurt sonys sales that much. as it is The psp sales are flagging on ther own.

Wow. Umm... Over 7000 McDonals restaurants are equipped with regular WiFi. In fact, Nintendo WiFi is using the same service. The thing is, Wayport (The provider of WiFi for McDonalds) signed a contract with Nintendo, and Nintendo is paying WayPort to allow free access for DS users.
Wayport charges for internet access at McDonalds.

As do i. I love my Racoon Mario, suction, spring, thingy. But what i was refering to was the deal Nintendo had to place N64's in McDonalds around the world. This continued with GameCube and now it's just following the natural progression with the DS.

Considering McDonald's was just giving away PSP's earlier this year, I don't think they're doing anything but covering all their bases.

I don't see how you can even say that without laughing at your own ridiculousness. Wi-Fi at McDonalds is going to somehow hurt the PSP. Uh-huh. Anyways, it's nice to know that you think the definition of "excellent news" would be the death of another video gaming system. x_x

Quoted for posterity.
I have a DS and there's nothing on the PSP that interests me much, but you'd have to be a PR monkey for this to register as anything else but "eh, cool...I guess." When's the last time you sat in McDonalds for more than 20 minutes or so, tops (question void if you have kids playing on the playground)? Like mentioned above, it's nice for the people that live where high-speed is a futuristic fantasy, but for the rest of us, it's nothing special. Cool? Sure. Awesome? Only if you're in the boonies. Crushing to the PSP? No way, whatsoever.

While I think this is great and all, I have to agree this isn't going to impact the PSP in any manner. Apples and oranges. It's a cool move to be sure, but I never dine at McDonald's, but I understand that several millions of folks do, many of which bring their DS owning children with them.
Sony should take a cue from this and do something similar with Starbucks or Barnes and Noble so you can stream video, audo books, or music wirelessly to your PSP. It wouldn't have nearly the same impact, but it's easy too see that the DS and the PSP attract different target audiences IMHO.

Dirty move, but business are business. But i think that it´s not necessary to play like this, it´s the same history for the SMS/NES and the fucking Nintendo marketing policy.
But again, business are business...

Yeah, after all, the N64 and Gamecube crushed their competitions when McDonald's put them in their restaraunts.

On a serious note, this is the coolest video game related thing I've heard of at McDonald's since they had Neo-Geo cabs.

Sure. In the early-to-mid 90s, McDonalds had MVS cabs in some of their restaraunts. They were shorter than other MVS cabs so that kids could play them without having to step onto a stool or something. I remember that Bust-A-Move, Baseball Stars, and a platformer I can't remember the name of were available for play at one of my McDonald's (although they may have had different games at other locations).

As earth-shattering as it was we only needed to read it once
Seriously, wi-fi at McDonalds? Eh
Despite what thier commercials portray Mickey D's is not the prime place to "chill" and is not the ideal spot to take a date.

The guy who made that film is a big prick. Of course sticking to such a one-sided diet is bad for you. If you ate at only one type of food, no matter what, for that long and you'd get sick. It proves nothing apart from the fact that some people are so dumb they watch things and never question it.

I don't really eat at McDonald's anymore, but I am kind of bummed the one right near my house-a childhood place of memories-closed down a couple weeks ago.
I wonder if you can sit in a McDonald's parking lot and get online. Maybe I can set up 3 miles worth of repeaters and access the service from my home (to the nearest McD's)! LOL

Toasty subs + DS = Mmmm...good.

I don't own a PSP or a Nintendo DS, and eat McDonalds like MAYBE once every 7-8 months. (It's very rare)
This is a smart move, because this makes me consider purchasing a DS, and taking advantage of my 2 hour(sometimes more.. I'm union :) ) lunch breaks. It means potential business for Nintendo, and business for McDonalds, since i'll at least buy something if i'm sitting in there. Just good business overall.
Try and remember that working adults make up a huge segment(if not the majority) of the handheld market. And the ability to add online gaming into the equation, for nothing more then a trip to McDonalds - Is quite appealing. Especially if they market this properly and release some decent games.

So you work for McDonalds? ;)
I understand that consuming anything in excess, even vitamins, will lead to problems. That movie along with my own previously mentioned problem has made me question what fast foods i should eat.
I'm not some health food nut, but i can't see torturing myself and popping half a bottle of Rolaids just to say i ate a McDonald's burger.

Its a neat novelty. I've never seen anyone use the McD wireless connections anyhow though. Who wants to eat something greasy then use their laptop? I might try it once just because its there, but really it isn't much of a technological marvel. McD already has a wireless network and now they open up a port to allow DS traffic through, big whoop.

It was at Penn State! Hamburger & shake made a great combo with a beer buzz. Open 24 hours a day!

Oh my goodness, I can't wait to spend hours of my day gaming on those comfortable plastic seats. And the smell! I guess no Smell-o-vision peripheral is planned, unless of course it's for Burgertime. This is a market neutral move.
I really really want to respect the forums. And although I appreciate the controversy that posts that seem to be created by a 14 year old's brain stirs up, I'm having trouble relating to these forums more and more.
