Anybody see in the latest issue of Play that Nick Rox from Gamefan is back with Halverson? This is great, he was my favorite editor from the Halverson Gamefan regime. It's a strong issue too. Check it out! Play isn't the best game mag ever but no current mag can touch it. Fuck yeah.

Nick Rox had one and only one use, and that involved the NOA chat rooms on AOL back in 1995. 16 Nick Roxes. One chatroom. Several thousand lines of text.

I've always wondered if anything from back then made it here, so just ignore this if it makes no sense to you.

Yes, I'm weird.

You know, I'm a huge Die Hard GameFan nut. I love that mag. I have a near complete collection of it, and it's one of my most prized possessions. I love the early era of GameFan, and also the years when Nick Rox was there.

The fact of the matter, however, is that Play just isn't a very good mag. I mean, it's not a bad mag, but in comparison to GameFan, it's a joke. GameFan used every single page to full value, and Play wastes so much damn space on non-video game stuff. As for all the anime and the anime music and all that crap, just stick to fricken video games, OK?

And then the review system and the preview system and all that, it isn't as good as GameFan. They waste a bunch of space on PC crap too. Trying to be a jack of all trades. Just stick to fricken video games dammit.

As soon as my subscription runs out, I'm not renewing.

It pains me to say this, but freaking Game Informer is actually the best magazine out there right now. It's almost embarassing for me to admit that, but it's true. Game Informer is much closer to the old GameFan than Play.

I wish that Play was as good as it could be, but it's not. I'm not going to pretend that it's a great mag when it isn't. Again, there are other mags out there much worse than Play, but the word on the street of Play being the best is just so misguided.
