I am getting this game, but you must get the PS2 HDD to play it, which kinda sucks, but it will be worth it, just wondering if anyone here will be getting it, maybe we could meet up somewhere, it is SUPPOSED to ship out March 3, 2003. But they will probably delay it...again.

I'm not interested in ANY new FF game, so I surely won't get it.

My sentiment's exactly. The ONLY FFs I'm even remotely interested in are the new GBA FF Tactics and FF 1 & 2 for PSX. And I don't think that really counts. I hated FF7, 8, and 9, and didn't play 10, so there's definitely no way I'd ever bother to get FF 10-2 or FF11, and the fact that you have to buy a worthless peripheral to play it makes me even LESS likely to buy it.

the damn game should be free if your going to shell out what $200 for the HD, and shit i already bought the Network Adaptor. I'd wait till at least 10 games came out that needed it, for sure before i do anything.

I wonder if there are problems with a HD for a modded ps2.

Buying a PS2 hard drive so I can play YET ANOTHER Final Fantasy game would be like buying a house just so I can see if a window opens. And yes, that's a terrible analogy, alright.

The sad thing is I'll probably just buy 11 for the artwork on the cover....you do have to pay money to play...I have a friend who plays the import version quite a bit...It's not a bad game, but I hate having to pay a monthly fee to play only one game online...The game itself it pretty cool, but even in Japan is just now getting close to the break even point for square...It hasn't been all it's cracked up to be.....on another note, I most definitly will be getting X-2.

Sure, if I have the money I plan to buy it.

I bought the basically the same damn Phantasy Star Online game three times, all at full price. So why not this?

I wouldn't call FFXI "yet another" Final Fantasy, as it's the first game in the series to abandon linear play, and the first to embrace the online multiplayer RPG genre. You could dub it "yet another online RPG," but it's still a step in a new direction as far as Final Fantasy is concerned.

And I'm quite interested to see where that step takes the series. If I can afford a hard drive and network adapter, I'll probably pick up Final Fantasy XI.

I think it could be cool, Im about played out on PSO so a change of online pace would be good. Oh, wait. I dont have a PS2. So, no I am not getting it. If im lucky and FF:CC sells good maybe it'll go to GCN? I already have the modem for that.

True, but who's to say that's an appealing direction? Personally, I find that multiplayer tends to detract form the gaming experience in most games. It's REALLY irritating to hunt for other actual gamers to play against, versus the invariably irritating 12 yr old that tags around pestering you with slang that has too many numbers and z's in it. Personally, I find that the solitary gaming experience is the one that I usually enjoy most, and that having to spend EXTRA money to spend time socializing with people I don't even know or want to know is exceptionally unappealing. Not to mention that I doubt many of my gaming friends will get it, so I wouldn't even have them to play it with.

As for it being good for Final Fantasy...maybe. I doubt it will be as amazing as it would have to be to draw people like me, that's for sure. Will it even have a plot? Or will it just be a bunch of strung together missions like every other online cooperative RPG? Is there anything that makes it stand out other than the increasingly unrespectable Final Fantasy name?

I had the same problem with PSO, and I hated it, partly cause of the people. I chose a girl character, and all I got was non-stop propositions and flack, cause apparently no self respecting guy would actually choose a woman character, so I must have been a slut looking for a good time with 12 year old gamers right? And beyond that, I hated PSO cause there was no plot worth mentioning and it didn't entertain me at all. I'm a fan of the old school Phantasy Star games, so PSO was REALLY a shitty game in my book. Anyway, you get the idea. Online gaming = me not buying games. I doubt I'm alone either.

That's cool. I'm not interested at all. From what I've seen over the past 4 years, Square is "out of gas". It's like the Star Wars movies to me: high on reputation, low on exciting results.

I'm getting it if it ever comes out in the US (I'm still doubting it will). Personally I don't think the FF series has run out of gas, it's actually some of the earlier ones I can't stand (IV is way overrated). I'll admit that I haven't played X yet (that's next on my list), but I've enjoyed VII, VIII, and IX.

To each is own I guess...

I'm taking the money I would have spent on a Network Adapter/Hard Drive and spending it on a new PC. I'll play FF11 on the new PC.

Yes its, 10 bucks per month, plus the 90 dollar HDD, and the NA, and then the game itself, so very expensive.

Brian told me we already have the hard drive and stuff (he has the ps2 linux kit or something like that) so I will probably get it. I've had fun with all of the FF games except 7 and 8 which I can't get into. It's strange, I can be patient with good graphics or old school ones but in betweeners increase boredom for me.
Anyway, more moogles and chocobos? I'm in!

I think I might pick it up eventually (i.e. used for the right price) just to round out the collection, but I'm not planning on buying it new or playing it online or anything.

My hobby is expensive enough without me spending extra money on an ISP and, on top of that, a subscription service (plus the games and the time I'd spend on them).

(I get my internet connection at home for free, but it's narrowband so I'm not using it for gaming, that's for sure).

Actually, you cannot use the Linux HDD to play FF11, you must buy the standalone peripheral to play the game.

i read that somewhere too. if you have the internal w/linux. You'll have to buy the external HD for FF11. ug.

I will buy the hard drive but I don't know about FFXI.

@Dp: Come on now.....Star Wars is still pretty cool! :D
