Hands up... who's ready to play another round of eBay Insanity? If there are enough participants, we'll do it like last year. Wonderful gaming prizes will be awarded! I don't remember what last year's winner got, but I'm sure it was GREAT!

Remember?

I loved Kris' ET auction, plus, as I remember, some people on another board kind of got their panties in a wad over it. Always a bonus when you can upset people who just take things too damn serious.

Let's do it.

Um?

I guess I need to explain this. The contest we run is FAKE stuff. Not real Starfox Survival kits, not real arcade coin doors. FAKE stuff, like a regular batch of mushrooms being presented as "Centipede" collectibles or 1980's air in a bag with blood stains around it.

Get it?

Long time lurker, first time poster... exactly how is the contest run? Do we just post something here?

I'll post rules soon... just want to make sure we've got good participation first! So far, so good!

Welcome to the forums, by the way "Master D".

Since you can't really see the pictures in the pdf files, I thought I'd share this from my Combat-Man auction:

Yet another Kaine Klassic. LOL

I LOVE the Combat Man pic Kier!!!! I always thought that was a clever idea and seeing the thing actualy in a VCS...that's classic!

Maybe a Kier Klassic!!! HAHAHA I kill me!!!

digitalpress

Yeah that IS a great picture. Did you really give it to the high bidder? I WANTED that!

And I don't know what it is with Kaine sometimes... does he just not read the previous posts or am I so unclear that he goes off in another direction?

Keir

Yup. Adrian (a regular poster at AtariAge) bought it. Check out his picture in AA's members gallery! http://www.atariage.com/forums/memberimages.php

Adrian has since sold it to Russ (aka slapdash) who keeps it on the back of his couch.

I thought we established a long time ago he must not read anything other than the subject sometimes. Seems like he'll be better about it for a while, and then it's back to the usual. I know he's been asked point blank if he actually reads the previous posts, but since he never responds, I think there's your answer.

...now back to your regularly scheduled topic.

As someone who is interested but has never listed anything on eBay...

What are the charges? What if, for some bizarre reason, somebody actually bids and I've got nothing to actually sell?

It's all part of being clever, which in turn nets you big points in this kind of contest. If you have a real item like Keir's "Combat Man", and someone not part of the contest bids on it, it's still your responsibility to sell it (or diplomatically extricate yourself from the deal); but you could also create auctions of a "theoretic" nature... I'm not going to get into this too much but it's fairly easy to create an auction that no one can (or would) bid on. I'll leave it to the contest thread once we get started for hints like these to bloom.

I think we need just a few more "commitments". I promise the prizes will be well worth your time! So if you're gonna do it, tell us you're gonna do it before Monday. I'll either kick the contest off or kick it OUT at that time.

C'mon!

Well, to be honest, I don't think it's the best idea to allow FAKE stuff only.

Atari parts, for example, should ba allowed since there are plenty of great and amazing ways to run the contest using that sort of stuff. It's true that the creativity is great with fake stuff only, but in my opinion there's as much of it with and without fake stuff.

There's one solution though: posting contributions with non-fake stuff to you for approval and then you accept or refuse depending on how relevant they are in the contest.

My contribution is ready for posting, but if you guys want fake stuff only, I'm sorry for not being able to post it there :( It would have been really funny !

The contest last time wasn't just fake stuff. Look at Kier's Combat Man auction on the previous page. That was real.

DavidWinter

True, the previous contest wasn't fake stuff only.
But the incoming one is supposed to be fake stuff only,
from whan I read here. Unless I misunderstood...

I didn't mean to say that these auctions were for "fake stuff only". It can be fake if you want, but like last year, that won't be a requirement.

As for those clamoring for rules, just settle down. If you didn't find last year's info it will be posted here again before the contest gets underway.

DavidWinter
02-18-2003, 03:17 AM
Ok :)

Could you make a page which contains all entries by name, so that everybody can find them easily ? As far as I recall, last year's entries were mixed with other messages in the same thread, so one had to browse the whole thing to find all entries. Or I don't remember correctly, but if you didn't do that last year, it would be nice to have a table of entries for this year.

Thanks for your infos. I'll post my contribution as soon as the contest opens !

That's a good idea, I'll keep links to each entry auction on a single web page.

Does it have to be video game related or can it be anything stupid or funny? I am in if it can be anything. Something came to me last night. When do we start???

digitalpress
02-22-2003, 01:34 PM
Your auction *should* be "game related", though you can get somewhat on a tangent, as the "80's Air" and "Fractalus Underpants" did last year :)

Getting warmed up? Rules will be posted soon!
