It seems the new PS2 model (SCPH-75000) has some compatibility problems with a number of PS1 and PS2 games. Problems include not displaying the titel screen, and playing music.

PS2:
- Gauntlet Dark Legacy
- Simple 2000 Ultimate Series Vol. 22: Stylish Mahjong Usagi
- Racing Battle C1 Grand Prix
- F1 2001
- F1 2002
- Usagi -Yasei no Toupai- THE ARCADE
- Aiyori Aoshi
- Hitman: Contracts
- Tekken 5

So far 39 PS1 games have problems. Some of them are:
- Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX
- Eldergate
- Racin Groovy
- Krazy Ivan
- Megatudo 2096
- Worms
- Sold Out
- U.P.P.
- 3X3 Eyes: Tenrinou Genmu
- Test Drive 4
- Chrono Cross
- Air Management '96

Anyone have some more info on this?

Good to know. I'm going to pick up a used PSTwo soon, there are used ones all over the place. I'll probably just use it for the Turismos.

I have yet to see the SCPH-75000 mentioned anywhere, either in person or online. The North American slim models I have seen in person and online are 70011 and 70012. Maybe this is some new unreleased PAL version?
I only see this version mentioned on the german Sony site, where it announces the new silver version.

This hubbub is about the new silver system available in Japan for the Holidays.

Turns out that all systems manufactured from this particular model on will have these inherent problems for some reason.

Aha. Thanks for that link.

The PS2 list is pretty weak. Other than Gauntlet, there is really no issue. The PS1 list (from what google translations tells me) is a lot harsher, assuming you actually play all of those crappy games. ;)

I wonder if Sony just now got around to merging the PS2/PS1 CPU. The current theory is this was already done in the second run of the 70000 series, but I haven't seen any proof yet.

I understand evolving to a point where a couple dozen PS1 games won't work, but it seems odd that current PS2 games wouldn't work on it.

Wait 'til we see the PS3. Probably won't play more than 75% of psone games or 90% of pstwo.
