I am just looking for something simple like the device on the end of this phone cord... except for an ethernet cable. Does such a thing exist? I am trying to run a lond cord from one room to another, but I cant drill through the walls. I wanted to splice some of my cords together.

You'd probably want a coupler like this one:

That looks about right. Can I buy these in stores?

Ok, important lesson in networking 101.
I'm pretty sure this doesn't apply to you, but the maximum effective length of Cat5 cable is roughly 300ft. A coupler won't connect a length of 300ft and 100ft, you'll lose signal.
Also, are you trying to connect 2 xboxes together? If you connect 2 crossconnect cables together then they are no longer a cross connect cable, you have a patch/straight through cable and you won't be able to play. If you connect a crossconnect to a patch/straight through then you will be fine.
Just some things to be wary of.
Also if you have a hub lying around then just use that as a coupler. A coupler is just a 2 port passive hub basicly. To a professional networker a coupler like that is a huge no-no.

The total length only has to be around 40 feet. It is actually just from a wireless router to my PC. Strange story. I tried using a netgear router for this purpose, but it requires power and didnt work anyway. My setup is rather odd. I guess if I could get a long enough cord for cheap enough somewhere I wouldnt worry about it.
