There is this one thrift store in town that has an odyssey 2 for sale. It's marked as $20 and $3 per game. There's like 20 games. The games all appear to be complete with boxes and instructions. It's been there for around 3 or 4 months.

It turns out that someone actually bought it a little while ago and returned it. The note on the box said something about frayed wires. The wires I think it is talking about are on this box for the video. I don't know if it works besides that. If I could find one, I could just replace that box.

The lady there made me an offer of $10 for the system and a game. I asked if she would take $20 for the everything. She said she didn't want to charge me that much for a non-working system. So, I think I could talk her down some more. I was just wondering how much I should ask. I don't really need this, but the collector in me is yelling "Get it". The games appear in excellent condition. Should I just say $10 to get it off her hands?

not that i'm rolling in cash or anything but if it under $20 just go for it. no need to think too long, at that price you'd have more regret for NOT buying it. you could easily trade the boxed games.

If you can get the system and 20 boxed games for under $40 I'd say it's a reasonably decent deal. Frayed, broken, ripped, destroyed cords or cables really aren't that big of a deal gameplay-wise, they're all easy to fix.

if you can get all that stuff for under $20, even if the system is totally thrashed you still got 20 boxed games for less than a buck each. why do you even need to ask if it's worth it??

My hesitation my have cost me the deal. I just went back and the lady I had been talking to was gone. The other lady there couldn't mark it down. I'll go back tomorrow and see if her boss is there. I hope I can talk her down.

I guess I'm more accustomed to dealing with garage sales. At a garage sale, I would have tried to talk the price down to under $10, $5 if I'm good. I think I've spent a little too much time over at CAG's yard sale thread.

If it's the video to the tv, you can just replace that with a standard RCA wire(though you have to open up the system to do so).

Or solder in two RCA cables for the world's easiest composite video mod. Google Deathskull Labs for details.

Go ahead and get it if you want to waste your time fixing it only to find that it was one of the worst systems ever(worst one i have ever played at least). If dissapointment is your thing fix it up! Pop those ugly unplayable games in then try to sell it to some other poor sap. Just make sure you buy any games that are worth anything like powerlords if they have any i am sure they dont. You can thank me later. LOL

Good collectible but not alot of play in it. I'd buy the games, then ebay a system. You can get the systems dirt cheap on ebay. Shipping charges are usually more than a system is by itself.

Personally I believe $3 for any complete game (excluding Sega Genesis sports titles) is a deal. If you can talk them down from that then it's a done deal...

(Three games short of a complete US Odyssey 2 collection)

O2 gets a bad rap but i think it is a pretty cool system, personally. a lot of the games are not too hot but there are certainly enough good ones to justify owning the console condsidering how cheap they are. pick axe pete, monkeyshines, kc's krazy chase (especially if you have the voice module), etc. it's probably one of those things that you either just "get" or you don't; you won't really be able to convince someone to dig the O2 if they aren't feeling it. it has a certain charm that is hard to explain. i still have a rotary phone in my house and listen to records though, so take that as you will.

ps - did you buy it or what?
