I have a white PC Engine I bought off of eBay, but it didn't come with an AV cable. I searched eBay and couldn't find any...all I found were Duo AV cables (which use a different plug). If anyone has one or knows where I can order one please PM me. Thanks.

Call me crazy...but if I recall the only way a White PC engine can output AV is with an AV booster.

Really? The only reason I assumed it was AV is because I saw an auction with that type of cable. Can anyone confirm this?

If it is not AV, then I need whatever kind of cable it is ;)

See, this post confused me, so I looked on eBay...and I imagine i saw the same auction...which confused me more, as there exists the AV booster for PC Engine which hooks to the expansion port so you can have an AV connection.

For the other PC engine units, it uses the same cable as Genesis 1 or Neo Geo.

I've always been told that without any add ons the white PC Engine only outputs RF...which would make sense, considering that the AV booster exists (otherwise, why would it?).

I can't confirm (as I have a Core Grafx), but sources (like the Wikipedia PC engine article, as well as everything I've ever been told about PC engine) tell me that you're dealing with RF.

On the good side...it might just be able to take a NES style RF adapter...on the negative side...it could use the same jack as Neo Geo or Genesis 1 but with an RF switched hooked to it...That's what came with my core grafx when I got it.

Hope that ramblefest was quasi helpful.

Nick,

Check out this thread (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=35823&highlight=expansion+port) for a link that shows the expansion bus pinout and some discussion on how to tap into it. You could make a cable or mod composite jacks into it. Optionally, just find a TG-16 composite cable someone has made and is selling on ebay to use on your PC-Engine. Same application.

I tried a TG16, NES and GEN RF plug...both of which fit the system and I couldn't get anything to show up. The AC plug the guy gave me was a Nintendo brand...my dad said that it is a DC to AC converter...apparently the system is DC 9V. I don't know if the system is not getting power correctly (the adapter is broken) or if it needs its own RF plug, or what. :/

I hope the system itself isn't dead.

Try tuning to channels in the 90s (96 worked for me, I think).
That's where my PC Engine tuned in at on RF. I don't know whether the channel is determined by the RF switch or the system though...but give that a try.

you can get AV output if you have it connected to a PCengine CDrom2. Of course, I don't know if its that important for you to have AV.

Interestingly, I purchased a PCEngine not so long ago, and it came 'pre-modified' with AV cables sticking out from it. I didn't notice until I looked at the hole where they came out from -- looks like they ripped out the channel selector switch to put them in. Pretty neat, actually.

I'm sure I could post some images of the inside if someone would like.

Ah...theres a channel select switch on it? Yeah, I'm thinking it'll tune in for you in the mid 90s. The reason it comes in up there has something to do with a difference between japanese and US broadcasts. Their channel 2-3 comes in around our 90s.

Wow...96 is the correct answer. Thank you so much for your help. You rock! :)

Well, now that its tested and working I don't need this thread anymore. Feel free to lock.
