PS2-FINAL VERDICT

Ok this generations race is over, the dust has settled and the co....ah forget it :roll:
WHAT IS YOUR FINAL VERDICT for the most successful (as far as units sold) of this generation of consoles.

PS2 had to win me over it helped kill of my beloved DC and I was going to hold out for an Xbox until I saw Metal Gear Solid 2 and Silent Hill 2 previews on the net and in print after that I HAD TO HAVE ONE.

I picked up my first PS2 within the 3rd month of its release along with MGS 2 and my treasure SH2 that I had waited sooo long for. I wasnt amazed by the graphical jump as many others were since I had the honor of enjoying my Dreamcast and experiencing graphical nervana when me and my EX-best friend launched up Soul Calibur BUT I was very impressed with Konamis SH2 and of course MGS2 enough so that it lessend the pain of what had happened to my still new DC enough that I was looking forward to more games on the PS2.

OH yeah the games man they just kept coming and coming sure some were shitty and hyped up letdowns -Driv3r- but others were a wonderful surprise-ICO-and others were more than a surprise for me like the brilliant completely unexpected MANHUNT.

I also went through 2 Xboxs and 2 Gamecubes and although I miss my Metroid Prime edition GC and plan on replacing it ASAP I always stuck with the PS2 and would pick up games on a regular basis for it while the other 2 would collect dust. Hell even my Dreamcast got more playtime than my Xbox.

Yeah the PS2 was well worth it and it IMO it delivered big time in the games catagory.

If only it werent for those damn DREs but hell I guess I got lucky I only had ONE PS2 even attempt that crap but I traded it in for the new slim model and never looked back ;)

In all due seriousness, the ps2 brought me back to gaming. I was pretty much out; nintendo 64 pissed me off quite badly ,and having only owned nintendo systems to that point, save for a genesis with 3 games (toejam and earl, golden ax 2, and bubba n stix), and i felt badly screwed over by n64's lack of..um.....decent games.
Then, i was at a friend's house fixing his pc. as the format was going ,he fired up his shiny ps2. I was drawn to the c64 intro of a certain Rockstar title....vice city.
I had $300- sitting at home to build a new pc.
it went straight to k*mart to get a ps2 and vice city.
I've since picked up the other current consoles, blah lbah blah, but still prefer ps2 over the other 2, and still pick up versions on ps2 over the xbox or cube counterparts.

I like all three consoles for various reasons. And I initially thought the PS2 was a bit crap after all the hype, with the PSOne sequels with "prettier" graphics... Until ICO came out. And slowly but surely it's got a bunch of cool games for it. More good games get my pick.

But let's be honest. From a technical audio/visual stand point, the original HALO blows 99.9% of PS2 software out of the water.

I can't really put a tag on which one I like the best. I certainly must have a PS2 for all the freakin RPG's, but thats usually about it. it's simply a different gaming experience on the PS2 than it is on the Xbox or Cube for me.

actually with the 32-64 bit gen I prefer the Saturn wich is the weakest (as far as 3-D goes anyway) of that generation.

Hell its all about the games man and wich one delivers the ones that each individual gamers likes or prefers ;)

The PS2 has been a great console. I've gotten hundreds and hundreds of hours of gaming enjoyment out of it. I couldn't be more happy with the PS2.

I like the PS2. I love my DC and GC but they don't have MGS, Gitaroo Man, and katamari. With out those, I would not like the PS2 much.

I like the ps2, but if the game is on the xbox I will get the xbox version over the sony one. I waited outside in rain under a blue tarp that I held over my head for 6 hours to get my ps2. I still have it and I have had no problems with it working, ever, which I guess is a rarity in itself.

But PS2 is still pretty awesome though, decent graphics(it REALLY got pushed ot the limit in the past year or so with some great looking and playing games), Perfect controller, DVD PLAYER(for my room), Free online play, FULL backwards compatability with PS1 games.

I wasen't that interested in the PS2 at first, but then I played GTA3 at a friends house around when it came out. Needless to say that was a system seller for me and the reason I got my PS2.

Just to name a few classics, overall I think I would give a slight edge to the Xbox because of it's online play, and a BIG edge to Dreamcast(because it's Dreamcast!). But PS2 is a great system all around. 10/10 :)

Even though I go to the darkest depths to giving love to crappy systems...I still go back to my PS2. Yes, the online play sucks. Yes, the system is not as durable as the others. When it comes down to it, it does not matter. My favorite PS2 games:

Katamari Damacy is the only thing the system has going for it - and get this - it's not even made by $ony. All they do is make a system and whore it out to casual gamers, they don't even develop many games themselves.

Had the PS2 got FULL backwards compatability, I might have gotten a nice Ceramic White PStwo instead of my PSone, but it doesn't. About 98%, as some games won't run or run super slow such as Toaplan Shooting Battle. Considering I'd mainly be using it for PSone games, just with the added ability to play the PS2 shooters, such as R-Type Final and Espgaluda.

Back on topic, I think the sales figures speak for themselves: Sony have sold more consoles and games than either M$ or Nintendo. The PS brand is still considered 'cool' and basically, you ask any kid what they want for Xmas and they'll tell you a PS2. The Xbox has certainly done very well considering the competition and the already established PS brand. And Nintendo, well they've just carried on in their own little world.

I agree I think its a damn good thing that the DS is doing so well.
It shows that Sony was more than a little too confident in the success of the PSP and the Playstation brand.

Im hoping the proven intrest in something new and non-traditional and innovative like the DS will carry over to the Revolution.

Space Channel 5 is available on the Dreamcast. Tekken is on other platforms. By the way, Tekken isn't comparable to other fighters - it sucks compared to the likes of Soul Calibur. Gran Turismo is comparable to Project Gotham Racing. Red Faction - also on other platforms. And better on the PC, I might add. Ico? It's all right. Shadow of the Colossus? Boring compared to other adventure games.

I've owned two Cubes, Xboxes, Dreamcasts and PS2s. The Xbox and Dreamcast ended up suiting my gaming tastes the most, so those are the two that I kept. The PS2 has some great franchises, I liked the size of the library and hardware-wise I never had any problems with it either. I'll most likely pick up a PSTwo one of these days just for four games......Turismos 3 and 4, and FFX and X2.

SC5 is on DC but not 5-2. Only ps2 has 5-2 in america.


Don't own a DC. never will. Played a friends DC last year and was not impressed. Every game he showed me & liked, I already have on PS2 or gameCube.

I hated my xbox - sold it. Sure it has pretty graphics but I don't date women because they have double-Ds. I date women for intelligence, interesting conversation and a life-long friend. Neither do I play for graphics. I play for fun, and none of the FPSes or Beach Barbie Volleyball were fun.

The PS2 wins for sheer variety. Sure the XBOX and GC have better graphics, but they also came out awhile later (I'm thinking 1.5 - 2 years?). OF COURSE they are gonna look better/smoother coming out later.

Plus all the retro paks are much cooler on ps2 because of the controller. I so wish I had gotten Midway arcade 2 for ps2 instead of GC, I can't play MK2 with that gc controller. Then again, the analog sucks on ps2 imo...just seems in-precise.


also, I'm not under the assumption that the ps2 killed the dreamcast...I blame Sega for that. They flooded the market with their own systems (IMO).

Of course, the good thing is being a gamer...get all the systems then you don't have to worry about all this nonsense :) even if you get them next generation
