Please help with NES parasol stars!

Hi can anyone please please help me with NES Parasol Stars (rainbow islands 2). All i want to do is play it in 2 player mode!!! I have no idea how to do it, all i've managed to find is something which is meant to be a write up of the manual and it says to press start then select to bring in the 2nd player having started the game.. but nothing works in any combination, and the pad is fine for other games.

I don´t think it has a 2-player mode (in fact, I don´t remember a version of the game that has that feature).

Manual doesnt mention anything about 2 player, just checked. I think its strange that the didnt make it 2 player, same goes for Bubble Bobble 2.
Bubble Bobble 2 have 2 player mode, but not at the same time.

The magnificent TG-16 version does, as I recall.
