We've seen your Rooms of Doom. We've seen your collections immaculately displayed, rows and rows of items each in their place presented perfectly. But what I haven't seen is your JUNK. Your mess. I know you've got some -- I sure do. My garage is overflowing with stuff that doesn't have its own place yet; the "holding cell", so to speak.
Today I worked on emptying out the garage, finding places for some of this stuff and deciding what to do with the rest of it. Here are some "before" pictures. Hopefully by the end of the weekend, I'll have some neater looking "after" ones.
http://www.robohara.com/junk/clutter-1.jpg
The front of my garage is the temporary unloading dock. On the right are white boxes of Apple II stuff I picked up from Dangerboy at Chi-Town Classic this year. On top of those boxes are an Apple Imagewriter printer and an Apple monitor, with a mini Pac-Man toy on top of that. On the floor surrounding the boxes are 5 1/4 disk boxes I recently picked up. After thrifting, this is the first pile my stuff ends up in.
http://www.robohara.com/junk/clutter-2.jpg
The other side of the garage has a pile of Apple and PC monitors. This area isn't really usually this messy. I started moving stuff there when I started cleaning.
http://www.robohara.com/junk/clutter-3.jpg
In between the two-car and the one-car garages are a few arcade games that I'm moving out to the arcade room this weekend. Karate Champ has been waiting for a new leaf switch, which I installed today. RoadBlasters looks and works 100%.
http://www.robohara.com/junk/clutter-5.jpg
Back to back to those machines sits my Gauntlet II cabinet and my 4-player X-Men cabinet, also slated to move out to the machine this weekend. Note the complete Apple II system on the shelf on the right. In the background you can see one of three jukeboxes I don't know what to do with.
http://www.robohara.com/junk/clutter-6.jpg
More piles of crap. The same jukebox, and my spare Shinobi cabinet.
http://www.robohara.com/junk/clutter-4.jpg
The front of the garage has metal shelves which end up being a holding tank for stuff I want "near" the house but that I don't have room for "in" the house. The very top shelf (which you can barely see) is a few arcade PCBs, Commodore power supplies, and other goodies. The next shelf has lots of fun stuff; lots of floppy disks for multiple systems, (counting) six spare 1541 drives (I have 2 in the house hooked up), 3 spare C64's, 1 spare C64S, an Amiga 500, a TI-994a, and a 1571 drive. Below that is a stack of Apples (610, Apple IIe, LC III, and a Tandy Coco 2) with a few videotapes and DVD cases crammed in.
http://www.robohara.com/junk/clutter-7.jpg
Two more jukeboxes in the foreground take up valuable floor space. The metal shelves are filled with stuff I don't know what to do with, stuff I'm "going" to sell, or stuff I'm "going" to throw out.
Please tell me I'm not alone out here. What do you guys do with the stuff that has a spot in your heart but not in your house?

You know Flack, one of these days I'm going to have see some pictures of your house from the outside. It's gotta be hugh for all the stuff you have and the multiple game rooms. LOL

We've got three cars, all three of which stay in the driveway. It makes more sense than parking them in the garage and filling the driveway with games.

I'm just going to invite everyone to revisit the last 3 images (http://videogamecollectors.com/gallery/The_Pantechnicon?page=1) on Page One of my Room of Doom gallery. The pile has actually spread out and gotten worse since these were taken, but you'll get the general idea that my garage is no place to visit without a hard hat and a tetanus shot :embarrassed: .

It doesnt realy look like a junk colection, just a poorly managed colection. Organizing everything (hell, even half) would help a great deal.

Great thread Flack! I had a similar idea this past Summer, but never got around to posting it. I actually took some pictures that will fit right in here...
My trade boxes Summer home...tightly packed between some old kitchen cabinets I have in my garage...
http://img459.imageshack.us/img459/3558/trades6zs.jpg
This is my dead zone, the back end of my garage where all of the stuff with no place to go...goes. The stacks of NES titles here went to Sean, the rest is still hanging around.
http://img459.imageshack.us/img459/2720/garage3dt.jpg
This is sort of the halfway house for my collection, in the basement, halfway between my garage and my game room...system boxes that don't fit upstairs, boxes of spare systems and controllers, and other miscellaneous junk...
http://img459.imageshack.us/img459/96/base4uy.jpg
This was my once semi-proud collection of Macintoshes. Hard to pass up computers you paid $1,500.00 for for 5 bucks at a rummage sale. And people leave the most interesting information on their computers when they get rid of them. Over 20 systems from a 512k to a G3...but we are making room for a ping-pong table in the basement, so they went to a lucky pick-up-only auction winner for $70. Oh well, at least the wife was happy about that one...

Thanks again for starting this thread Flack...lucky for me I never throw away anything from my computer either, and still had these pix to add!

Wow Rich, I had a feelng you would have an area like that based off the amount of stuff you brought to Chi-Town! I know the feeling when it comes to old computers, maybe that explains having two or three spares of everything. :)
Hey Dojo, we want some pictures! And Grimbal, my house isn't that big, I just have a very tolerant wife. :)

I'm a neat-freak, so all of my stuff (even my crap) is really well organized on shelves.
Flack, my friend, I think you need some help cleaning that stuff up.

My hoard of 2600 consoles. That's a Sears Arcade II on top. I think there are two Coleco Geminis in there somewhere too. This is inexcusable.
Ye gods, that is the most precarious stack of consoles I have ever seen. How long have they been like that, anyway? x_x
Personally, I've got a box of stuff I want to get rid off in a corner of my room, with everything else nice and neat on shelves...no photos for you! :P

This is a great idea. I don't have enough games for "junk" piles, so it's fun seeing mounds of unorganized treasure. I just want to hop in like a McDonald's ball pen or something.
More pictures!

Several months now. That's the far corner of the garage. They're hiding back there in a corner between a bunch of random boxes on one side and a motorcycle on the other. You'd literally have to climb over stuff to get to them :embarrassed: .

The only thing I could do is take pics of my stock room downstairs for my website/ebay store. Maybe the next time I have the camera out I'll head down there. It's fairly well organized though. The only mess I really have would be parts of my garage since I have a probly throwing away spare wood (You can ALWAYS use a 3"*8" piece of pine for SOMETHING at SOME point)

What I consider junk is what eBay sellers send me when they should in fact be something entirely different... Ie, instead of beinga sealed game as advertised, I sometimes receive an unsealed pre-owned copy... Straight into the trade box it goes after leaving an nice neg...
I also have a load of stuff that gets damaged in the post due to stupid eBayer's thinking a paper envelope will be suitable protection for a PlayStation or DreamCast game...
Recently got rid of a load of crap though, so my trade box is pretty empty.
@ Flack ~ You have more stuff in your garage which you class as "Junk" than most people actually have in total! LOL
You guys have enough PCBs to be shut down by the Environmental Protection Agency.

I'd like to go shopping in your garages, guys....
I can fit my whole "collection" on two shelves in the living room and one in the bedroom...

LOL Actually, it's Dr. Becker, sort of a natural soda version of Dr. Pepper. I had a similar collection, but eventually recycled it (literally). Also, I know it doesn't say "Dr.", but I think Mr. Pibb belongs in such a collection.
Oh, and here's my Hole of Doom:

These are pictures of parts of my storage unit. Not many things are in order. A lot of things are hidden in the shelves. I guess you can even call this my messy Room of Doom. I have other things at my house.

MAN….after looking at some of these pics I don’t feel so bad. It’s kind of like being overweight and hanging around a couple of 400+ pounders, it makes you feel normal. I have some junk in my house but not like many of you have. Funny though, some of the “junk” shown in the pics is actually nice stuff…
