View Full Version : Who Isn't Getting Any Next-Gen Systems?

First, it always gets me how everyone always refers to the next batch of games as "the next-gen"...we've been doing that since the PS1 came out. But the big question is...is there anyone who has decided they are absolutely not going to get the XBox 360 or the Nintendo Revolution or the PS3? As it stands right now, I don't see myself getting any of them. I'm just not buying many games and I have so many games I already have that I haven't finished, I just don't see the point of getting a new system. Sure, they'll look great and have even more power but so what? I'm happy with what I have.

I've always bought one of the new consoles each soo-called gaming gen, this time I will wait till the smoke settle's period, and since I'm an arcade style gamer I may not at all, this gen has really been shrinking in that area IMO.

I'm gonna wait about a year before I even touch an Xbox 360, like KingCobra just said, wait till the smoke settles down.

Never jump in when the stuff is too high in demand

360 looks cool "albeit pricey" So when I have the cash I will.

Hell might be a year from launch but I WILL eventually get one to play games like Oblivion and Call of Duty 2.

PS3 and REV im on the fence about. Im not a fanboy.... I just like what I like. If Milton Bradley released a Gaming System that kicked ass and had games I want to play Id go with that.

AS for not buying New Gen shit because theres older games I havent finished yet.... Well theres plenty of Atari games I havent beaten yet... NES genesis C64 SNES TGFX 16 but thats kind of limiting to the experience by that logic.

If yer happy Playing N64 while people are jacking into the Matrix Ulytimate Video Game Skynet program in 2245 AD then more power to you.

Well, I actually do have all 3 of the current consoles...and plenty of games to go with each...so I'm pretty well set as far as games go for both current systems and ones of the distant past...though I must admit I haven't played Combat in awhile :D

I really don't WANT to buy.......question is.....CAN I resist? If I can plug my ears and eyes and not listen to all of the drooling from the new Elderscrolls game, then I'll be able to not buy a 360. I might have to stop buying OXM magazine once it gets to being mostly 360 content. The media tends to make you feel either guilty or like a complete outsider for not buying in.

Revolution? Not interested. Period.

PS3? The only thing that I'm remotely interested in is the connectivity to my PSP. More of a curiousity than a desire to own.

There's still tons to play on my Xbox and other systems....and I can always pick up a cheap PSTwo and give Turismo 4 another whack. Truth is, I'm really loving my PSP and it's got enough "newness" to keep me satisfied while the next three systems get flogged in front of me.

Yeah I'm like the rest and will wait for awhile (probably when the 1st price drop on the systems come), there are usually some relatively cheap titles by that time as well. I'll end up fleshing out my PS2 collection when the PS3 hit as many people are completely willing to abandon the systems and many of the games in favor of the new stuff. Hell, I don't even have an Xbox yet so I'll probably use the oppurtunity to pick up a cheap box and the many titles for it. I just can't justify spending that kind of money on a launch system, especially with the prices they are asking for these next-gen systems.

It'll still be intrested to see if the next consoles takes that big leap like it did from the 32/64 to DC/PS2/Cube/Xbox, prices are also going to go up and that'll be another factor to consider for me.

Honestly I never by next-gen systems at launch just because there is always some bug that needs to be fixed. I always wait for the 2nd or 3rd wave to come out. Plus my PS2 is still going strong, but I want Fight Night Round 3 though. Dammit.

Not buy a Nintendo Revolution?!

YOU MUST BE NUTS!

I'll be the first in line on launch day...

Me i'm getting the 360 at launch simply because i've never been in the position to do that before. Same goes fo the Revolution for the coolness factor. However i don't plan on buying a PS3 until it becomes cheap and MGS4 is released.

I've got a lot of games that io haven't played, but the lure of finally getting something at launch is just too much. Plus the revolution remote is the ultimate Nes controler.

I am still working through my PS1 and PS2 games. I don't plan on getting a PS3 for quite some time. The PS2 was a really smooth "upgrade" from the PS1 since the emulation was spot on, all the same accessories worked, the controller was the same, etc. The PS3 is a little too different and will most likely break a lot of compatibility.

I am actually tired of playing the same rehashed Nintendo first party games, so I never bothered with the Gamecube and won't waste time with the Revolution either, unless it offers a seriously unique experience.

I am definitely never getting a 360. I had an Xbox for almost a year before selling it off. I want a console that gives me unique console games. I don't need a console that plays watered down PC ports.

I will be playing my model 5xxxx PS2 for quite a few more years. :)

I wont be, I wont say NEVER but no immediate plans, I don't see getting any for at least 3-4 years then maybe if any are still around with a proven library, great add-ons and a proven track record and major price drop I might consider one of them...............................

As it stands right now, I don't see myself getting any of them.

I like the downloadable nes/snes/n64 games for the retro-Revolution.

Plan to buy that.

Well, considering I got rid of my PS2 and Xbox, and never owned a Gamecube, I doubt I'll be getting any of the new systems in the foreseeable future.

Only possibility of swaying me would be if Blu-Ray is really as good as it's been hyped. I have a feeling 1080p movies will look incredible. Also loading up linux and playing with random mods sounds cool.

PS3 .. 30% chance I'll get one
360 .. 0%
Rev .. 0%

I Game exclusively on PC these days, and rarely at that ..

I'll be getting a PS3 within a year of release no question. Solely for the RPG's if nothing else.
Revolution I'll get for my kids within a year.
Xbox 360. When it hits $100 probably. I still don't have an xbox, and when I get one, it most likely won't be for playing purposes. Just to add the console to my collection (although I don't collect games newer than the Saturn, I like to keep up with consoles)

You know, I always say that I won't, but I will end up buying at least one eventually... it's only a matter of time.

I'm not planning on getting any of them... although I'm sure I'll be tempted. My plan is to just skip this generation and focus more on appreciating the systems I already have and try out some of the games that I missed out on or never spent enough time with in the first place... maybe work on completing my Jaguar and Lynx collections... pick up some more Dreamcast games, that kinda thing.

Not quite next-gen, but I've been on the fence about the DS... originally, I was waiting for better games to come out, but now they have and I still haven't bought it. I already have so many portables, and there seems to be a large influx of shitty TV/movie licensed games coming down the pipe that will just pollute the game library.

definitely not planning on getting any "next gen" systems. i have like 10 consoles already and more than enough games to keep me busy. another arcade cab or a pinball machine is probably in the future though. not having the urge to obsessively collect anymore is such a great liberating feeling.

I don't plan on getting anything right at launch except maybe the revolution. Then again most of the time the hype bug gets us sucked into the whole buying a system. We could barely be finishing up the 20 or so games we have on the current system, and be googoo eye's for the "next gen" games.

On the XBox 360 however, I do have my eye's "Gears of War". The game looks simply stunning. Will it make me pay 400+ for a Xbox 360? No.....

PS3 is the other system I want for purely a few games, and I'm sure it's going to have excellent 3d party support, so I can expect more unique titles to come out for it.

Revolution, has well 1st party games "Zelda". I'm still waiting to see how revolutionary this new controller will be to gaming. This might be the only system I buy at launch though.

I think the only system I bought on Launch Day was the Nintendo GameCube. At the time, I just thought it would be neat to finally get something on it's national roll-out day. The two games I got that day were All-Star Baseball 2002 and a Star Wars game.

I'll definately own at least one "next-gen" system before the next inevitable gen arrives.

Back in 2000 I vowed I would never buy a next-gen console ever again after the N64 left a bad taste in my mouth. Come Novemeber of 2004, I had a GCN. Now, I just recently became the owner of an import PS2. I know that in the end, one or two of the next-gen systems will be in my possesion. Most likely it will be the PS3 and Revolution, because for some reason I have a biased, inexcusible hatred towards Microsoft gaming consoles.

Ill wait until the 360 has its first price drop or possibly for the PS3 but it will be a loooong time before I will be getting a next-gen console.

I was going to answer "no", but then realized that I will probably buy them eventually, just not when they're new. I'll wait for the price to lower to the $150 range. I still have plenty of games I can play now.

No new machines for me, I have absolutely no interest whatsoever.

As far as I'm concerned, The X360 and PS3 are just a repeat of the past 5 yrs, with better graphics. Again. The Revo has me slightly interested but I'm certainly not planning on getting one.

I'm more exited about getting my MegaCD on the go. Bring on Final Fight CD and Sonic CD. And anyway, why should I wait for the next gen, when The Future is Now.............. (*goes for a quick blast on Pulstar whilst Missus cooks T*)

As usual I'll wait for the game that really hooks me and go from there. I'd be quite surprised if I didn't end up getting at least 2 out of the 3...I'm sure they all have some good stuff coming.

my criteria

- under $200
- at least 6 original fun titles
- at least 1 blow-me-away original title

so right now, it looks like none of the systems will meet these right away, but the rev looks like it will be the closest. but there has yet to be an announced price point, nor have we seen any games. i am perfectly content to sit awhile and buy up cheap current gen games for a year or two.

Dreamcast is still the newest console I own. I guess I'm about 5 years behind. :D

I don't plan on getting any of the new generation systems. I just picked up a ps2 and I haven't even played that much. The revolution looks pretty sexy though, but I won't pick that up on launch day or anything. Perhaps a year or two after it goes down in price a bit. That controller looks intriguing.
