I've been wating for the Xbox to reach $100 dollars at least at Gamecrazy or Gamestop. I know some people say they won't but I still have hope. I really want one, but for some reason I can't seen to fork out $150 for it. Even though I want to play House of the Dead 3 so badly. Anyone else waiting for the Xbox to reach $100?

That is exactly what I'm waiting for! In Canada used is still going like 189.99 So I need it to come down by half! I've got a list of like a dozen games I want to play on the system and until it comes down to 99.99 I won't be picking on up.

It'll definitely hit $99 ;) Maybe even less on closeouts .. I don't think Microsoft will try to keep up split development for very long.

I am in the same boat. Been waiting for the $99 price drop. I am thinking come November when they release the 360, they will have to cut the price.

As far as I'm concerned, there isn't much point now. I'll wait until the 360's first price drop instead or something. Yeah it'll be more expensive, but hopefully it'll be worth it by then.

I'd buy an Xbox at $99. I'd also buy a new Gamecube at $50. Think that will ever happen?

I'm waiting for this as well. Even the used 120 deal seems to much for me to pay for an Xbox. I only want a few games for it.

Penny-pinching is one thing but I think you're denying yourself some great games by continuing to wait for a rock-bottom price. I've been enjoying the system for about 2 years now and II consider well worth the price I paid for it (which at the time was about $179, I think).

Well, I'm only interested in HOUSE OF THE DEAD 3. That's about it. I've played Halo at my friends house so I really only want it for one game.

I'm waiting for less than that honestly. If it never hits $50, I'll probably buy one used off of ebay in a year or so just to have it in my collection. There are probably 4-5 games on the whole system that I would like to play, and I can't justify spending $200+ for 4-5 games (system and game cost total).

If I passed by an xbox system, brand new for $60 right now, I would probably buy it. over $75, and I would pass.

I wouldn't. I'd pay $25 for it though. Just want to play OutRun 2.0. And I really doubt OutRun 2.0 will be backwards compatible with the 360...ever.

Exactly, I own Halo PC, and I'm going to get Fable for PC as well. Only Ninja Gaiden is left that I want.

I would! A few weeks ago I spent $130 on an Xbox with the sole intention of soft modding it and installing Xbox Media Center. I have a couple of Xbox games that I've been buying for a while now (not a whole lot, just games that I really wanted to play like Oddworld Stranger's Wrath, Outrun 2, Otogi, Deathrow, etc), but the core reason i finally bought the Xbox was for Xbox Media Center.

Xbox Media Center is AWESOME.

Now I can stream videos and music over the network and into my living room, which is just awesomely convenient. My wife and I recently got addicted to Lost after buying Season 1 and we just couldn't wait a year to watch Season 2, so I grabbed the first 4 HD episodes off the usenet right quick, we watched 'em on the TV, and now we're able to watch it each week when it airs (or later, if I feel like it). A winner is us.

When the system hits $99 new, I'll probably get another one just for games so I can hook it up to the PC and leave the other one just hooked up to the TV. (I prefer to play games on my PC monitor via a capture card so that I can grab screenshots and record videos; best $45 addon pc card ever)

edit - p.s. Oddworld Stranger's Wrath!!

Sounds cool, but do you have to have live to stream videos from your PC to your Xbox or do you just do it via network?

You don't use Live at all for anything. You just have to have the systems on the same network and you're golden. My Xbox is connected to a WRT54G which is WDS'd with another WRT54G on the other side of the home, and that connects to my PS2 and PC in addition to providing more coverage for our wireless laptops.

I can stream to the Xbox from any of my computers, all I have to do is share a directory and browse it with XBMC.

Life is good.

Did you order your xbox premoded?

with XBMC you can integrate TeamXlink (tunneling software).

No, I just used the save game exploit in Mechassault. Load save game, system is now soft modded. Simple, slick, and it just couldn't be easier :)

Gotta make sure you have a non-Xbox Live Bundle version of Mechassault and it can't be a platinum hits version. Same for Agent Under Fire and Splinter Cell, the two other games I know of that can be used to trigger the save game exploit.

I'll probably wind up throwing a larger hard drive in there at some point, because it's so awesomely easy that there's almost no reason to NOT do it.

Tivo lets you stream media through network to your TV system as well.

What are the restrictions on the format types, though? Since XBMC is originally based off of MPlayer, it plays damn near anything I throw at it (commercials I rip from playstation.jp , videos I encode to mp4, anime encoded in ogm, etc).

Plus, Tivo doesn't have Outrun 2 :(

edit- just checked the price on tivo; holy hell is that expensive. Don't most cable companies offer HD-DVR boxes for ~$10/month or so?

I'm going to be giving XLink Kai a shot when I pick up Armored Core Nexus and Armored Core Nine Breaker. I want to play these suckers online :(

Indeed, $99 for the best Media Centre available on ANY format or for a Linux box is a great deal.

Infact, everyone should go get a nice cheap Xbox just to run XBMC, don't worry about the actual Xbox games.

Wow...a device capable of emulating over 10 systems, including a NES, SNES, Genesis, Nintendo 64, and PSX...with many games emulating at or close to 100%. Comes with 8 GB ready to store 'em all.

A device that can stream movies, music, pictures, etc. over your network so you can watch them on your TV? The Xbox can even browse the web.

You mean having all those features, in addition to playing Xbox games, it's not worth $150?

You are talking to people who own every system they ever had. In some cases they still play their TSR-80s !

They are still enjoying games on a daily basis they are just too cheap to pay full price when they know the price will bottom out. I don't see why $100 should make a difference. If you are waiting for it to drop to $100 to buy an Xbox just go buy a used one for $100.

....Unless you are waiting to buy a used one for $65

If I could find a used xbox for less than 100 then I would buy it, but even when you win on ebay you still have to pay for shipping and handling.

I sell them for $90 at my stores. It shouldn't be too hard to find one for $100 at one of your local game stores.

Actually I wished I live close to you. The cheapest I have found in a 50 mile radius is $130 dollars. Those extra $30 dollars kill me. I mean I can afford it, I just can't make myself buy it, just to play 1 game.

I would buy an Xbox for $100, but I would also much rather spend my $100 on NES games or something.
No doubt, $100 is a good deal, but I'd still prefer something good (ex. Not made by Microsoft :P).

Speaking of low priced consoles, how's the durability on the slim PSTwo? I'm considering one but I've noticed many of them showing up used. People tend to trade in consoles that are starting to die and I thought that it was strange that I'd be seeing so many PSTwos traded in. I've never had a problem with the regular PS2.

New or used, you can get one really cheap now.

oh yea - thats what im waiting for too.

as soon as that happends im scouping up 2 -- i already have 2 but thats a 1st model one and the green halo one (which is only for storage)

its my favorite current gen system and gets the most play and id like to have some insurance for when and if it breaks down in the future

my 1st gen model is working fine but all the horor stories i hear make me worried

i gues what i would like to see more than 99$ xboxes is $10 new 1st party controllers (especialy the big ones, most comfortable controler ive ever used - no im not joking - one of the reasons why i got an xbox before a ps2 )

I, myself, am waiting for the price of a used XBOX at a great local gaming store around me, GameXChange, to get WAY low, then I want to get two or three of them and mod them like heck! Burn DVDs, maybe, or MAME, could do, console emulation, it's possible, how bout burning those XB games to this one (only I may be tempted by some super-natural dark forces to go to my local Blockbuster and rent craploads of games just to burn them :vamp: , darn dark forces), it might be done, XB Media center here, sure I might, Emulation, who knows, I Want A Crap Load Of Cheap Or Free XBOXES!

I already have one, but my folks wont let me mod it, at least untill they see me do a good and successful mod to another XB. I hope to learn how to do a good mod chip installation mod on a XB that a friend of mine has promised to give me FREE when the XB 360 comes out, free because it is busted, bad HDD I figure, wont play games to get a softmod in till I mod chip it so I can replace the HDD.

MY GXC store that I previously mentioned has soled many a XB under 100 dolla befoer, see them often around 80 with box, game, and 1 to 2 controllers there. 60 sometime w/o box or 2nd controller, and with a increadibly cheap and common game, as in they got 20 - 30 used copies on the public sheles for 6 or 7 bucks (Sega GT and/or Jet Set Radio Future usualy, I got a combo disk there one time). But I want the 360 to come out, to lower the costs of a normal XB, and then maybe when the PS2 comes out they may lower some more, and as the XBOXes come into the used games store to be traded in for some extra cash, gaming space on gamers TVs, and to trade for those early rare used 360s and PS3s from people who bought them but never really enjoyed them so they traded them in fo some other games or money (ex: DS comes out, not even 1 week later, the used games store has a used one with MarioDS, carrying case, screen protectors, and a bunch of other exra crap, along with some other game, traded in for some store credet and now for sale at a lower price to any others interested!), a stock pile of XBs will begin to form, as did with PSones when the XB and PS2 came out, and with GBCs as GBAs came out, and to a lesser degre GBAs when DS came out, and as the stockpiles begin to form, systems will be sold cheaper for a period of time to decrease the numbers before raising the used consoles prices an extra 10 to 20 smackers.

Wait for the right time and the systems will be cheaper! Get many of them, I will!

Wow, long post again today.

I wouldn't count on the price drop to $100 to be until at or after the PS3 launch. It's NOT happening this christmas season for sure, J Allard has stressed that time and again. I can imagine it continuing to sell out this season as I should hope most of their resources have gone to producing 360s. It may never see a $100 MSRP if it continues to sell out through the end of its life at $150.

Sadly, the MAME ports to Xbox are less than stellar. They're seriously out of date and somehow the default control configuration sucks ass like no other, so before you ever play any games with it, you'll need to go and edit your global buttons.

If you keep your MAME romsets in compliance with the most recent versions (as you very well should!), then you'll find quite a few games that won't work on the older builds on the ol' Xbox. Haven't messed with FinalburnAlpha on Xbox though...I wonder how up-to-date that is.

I guess you're at the wrong places.

I think Xbox is $169 Cdn this week at Worst Buy (I remember seeing the sale price being less than the PS2 price).

I've seen used consoles for $120 Cdn or less. EB games is not the only source for games.
