Is there a list of known PS1 prototypes? What else is out there?

Released? Un-Released?? Specific build releases???
I've got about 40 total. Nothing special, everything was released, with builds across the board. Early early builds, to (mostly complete) reviews, to finals. Some on official media, some on random blanks, some with full paperwork (the reviews) some with business cards of those who mailed em out in the first place.

Well, if the guide was working, you can find a bunch there. ;)

Yeah I think I have all the ones listed in the guide. I mean unreleased protos. I'm sure there are more out there.

There's two not in the guide that I've been trying to get for a year. I'm still holding out hope. I have been in contact with the programmer since last year. One was nearly finished, the other is still in source code (which I suppose doesn't do much good). I'll have a list of most unreleased ps1 games soon (it'll be impossible to be 100% because for instance the two titles above have no mention of being developed for ps1 anywhere...in fact 1 of them was a popular release on ps2 which is why the company decided to scrap it at the last minute).
I'm not saying what they are only because it'll probably jinx me.
And if anyone has Clayfighter Extreme (and consider to sell it), you will be my hero!

This brings to mind a question I've had for the longest time... Has there been a Dragon Warrior IV proto to surface for the PS1? I know it was released in Japan as Dragon Quest IV (which I have), but it was advertised on the back cover of the US Dragon Warrior VII's manual... Does anyone know if that proto has surfaced?

I had all day to work on the unreleased US PS1 proto list. I'm up to 176 titles. I need to do some more research to see if I have to add more. I'll let ppl know when it's complete. (I'm also recording where I read about the proto)

If a prototype does not exist in collectors hands then its just rumormill. I am talking about known prototypes.

Does the Superman proto play the same as the N64 version?

The Superman proto is nothing like the N64 version. I had it on display and set up for play at Philly Classic 3 or 4 years ago. There is a debug menu setup so you can skip to any level you want. I wouldn't really call it a fun game but its interesting.

From what I gather, there may have been two versions developed for the PSX at different times. Who made the version you had on display?

That would require me actually finding it again. My collection brings new meaning to the term ROOMS OF DOOM.

Now, you could let me come over. I'll volunteer to go into the rooms of doom for free. First thing I would do is pick out all those nice PS1 protos and play them on your debugger to see what they're like. Then I'd go over to the table and pick up a keyboard adaptor for the PSX (Don't you have two of them anyhow?). Then I'd search to see what other PSX goodies you have.

Why does this read like a twisted version of The Dating Game?

That might work, though I'm sure he'd be hovering there, over your shoulder, as if the footsteps of doom! ;) Maybe instead these rooms of doom could be set up like haunted houses you know touring one to the next, set up some creepy background moteiff, dim the lights, throw on Superman 64, that would get some screams. :vamp:  :vamp:

If someone has a way to host some pictures send me your email. I'm sure you would quickly change your mind if you saw what lay ahead. I am close to 3000 disk protos at this point.

If you want my email, I use image shack. I could host the pics for you. (or you can set up your own account, whichever is easier) 3000 protos is across all systems I assume (Atari, Sony, Sega, ...etc)?
email is ecustom@rochester dot rr dot com

I have less than 100 cart based protos. I am talking just disk based games. Mostly Ps1 and PS2. However the last huge batch I just bought is turning out to be mostly PC :( It had an unreleased PS1 game (Maniac Moons) and a couple unreleased Xbox games in there. So $500 for 500 disks wasn't all that bad. I have no idea what to do with PC protos.

Where the heck do you find those to buy?? I wanted Maniac Moons for awhile now.
*I do confirm that you have a room of doom. Ugh. At least your boxes seem to be marked.
At least I'm close to getting two unreleased protos for PS1. I can't say what they are (don't want to jinx myself, plus I promised not to sell, leak it out, or tell anyone about it) but I have been trying to get them for over a year. One of them was released on PS2 and Xbox. It was my friends' favorite game for the longest time (and I liked it too). I can't wait to see the PS1 version in all it's 32-bit glory. I'm almost peeing my pants just thinking of it. The other game is similar to a VERY popular Atari ST game. Now if only I could find Clayfighter Extreme.

Are you sure it's Mickey Mania and not Mickey's Wild Adventures? Mickey's Wild Adventures starts off in black and white as the 'tug boat willy Mickey' then when you progress through the level it turns to color.

I don't follow the bootleg or emulator scene. It was offered to me awhile back and I turned it down. If I find the the email address I'll pass it down the line.

If you can that would be great. If that's the only way to find Clayfighter, I have to try it.

Well I was cataloging the Proto's that are here with me when I realized that I've got a Hardwood Heroes (later renamed NBA FastBreak {I think}). I popped it in to see what if anything was different (besides a logo) but I couldnt get it to fire on my green debug. I'll be trying it on one of my blue debug in a few weeks so maybe it'll be nicer to me then.

I've had a few protos which only work on my PSone debug. If not you may need a dongle. A few titles require one to play.

It was old enough for me to think that it didnt need a Dongle, the only one ive got that I know that needs one is my Mike Tyson Boxing.

Most likely it doesn't need one. There were very few Ps1 games that required one and even fewer that need one on the PS2. The earliest game that I have that requires a dongle is Colony Wars.
Try to make a slow burn copy and try the copy. I've had 2 protos which didn't work at first but this got them up and running. Maniac Moons was one of them.

Can I purchase the non-working maniac moons one? (I thought I'd try at least)

Probably not anything :D
10 000 is a little bit tooooo much for me. But when I earn a lot of money in some years, I probably would buy it. I think this game is a complete playable copy, isn't it?
