Heres the deal, Sunday night I preordered an Xbox 360, I put $100 and guaranteed to get the xbox on the 2nd shipment to the store. Tonight, I just learned that my close friend can get one for my on Nov 22nd at 7am.
Can I go to EB and tell them I am not interested anymore and return me the $100? If I can get the xbox on launch day instead of 2 weeks later that would be great.
Thanks for the help!

You should be able to....providing if you have your receipt. Why not? You haven't taken possession of it and it's not a legal binding contract or anything. I pre-ordered the Namco classics for PSP back in April and cancelled it in July; got my money back with no questions asked.

You sure can. It screws with their numbers, too...so it's win-win. :)

I doubt they'd care, but they might just ask that you put the money towards something else in the store. You're gonna need games anyways.

I'd say call them up and ask the cancellation policy (citing any applicable state laws that might work in your favor), then keep the $100 in the reservation until you actually get the 360 on the launch day. That way you'll at least have a backup plan in case that falls through.

Yes, you can cancel your reserve and as long as you paid in cash for it you get cash back, credit will be credit back. You just might get an evil eye while doing it.

Yup. I did this for Conker's Bad Fur Day. The demo came out, and since I loved the original I wanted to see what the remake was like. I had to put $10.00 to reserve the game to get the demo, I brought it home, wasn't overly impressed and the next day traded it in for credit.

Here is what you do. Get the other 360, but leave the $100 down on the one at EB if you can. Once you have the other 360 on launch day, and it's working fine and everything, then go and get your $100 back from EB.
They shouldn't have any problem with it at all. There is going to be 360 shortages this year, so they won't have any problem selling that 360 to somebody else.
If you want to go the profiteer route, then you could pay for that other 360 too and put it on craigslist or something.
The main thing, is make sure you really have that other 360, before you cancel your pre-order. It would suck to cancell that pre-order, and then something happens and you don't get the one from your friend like you thought you would.

The very least they'll give you is your $100 in store credit. And that could come in handy buying games and accessories for your new 360 as well as maybe some of your other consoles. While cash would be a lot nicer to have (cuz you can buy more important things like food and pay the rent) at least your $100 won't go to waste no matter how you get it back.

i can never see the point of pre-ordering consoles...
i never did with the original x-box, gamecube or ps2 and had very little problems obtaining any of them on launch day
and thinking about it how many of us would feel the need to pre-order a toaster?

Yea as an eb employee you can cancel it no hassle. Recipt makes it easier. But like others say Id cancel once you had the other 360 in your hand. This way you're not fucked overall.

Thanks everyone for the advice and info. My Plan? Im going to keep my preorder and get an Xbox on launch date. I am going to sell that one I have preordered on Ebay or Craigslist. Make around $50 to $100 8-)
