'lo all!
Behind the scenes we've been making some changes to the forums and the new and improved Retrogaming Roundtable v3.0 will launch at approximately midnight Friday (ie "first thing Saturday morning").
The changes are almost entirely aesthetic. NO POSTS WILL BE LOST, though the forum will be closed down for approximately one hour as we transfer all of the goodness from one place to the other. There will be no need to re-register or anything crazy like that. :P
The only thing you should really notice is the new look. The new forum style will more closely fit with the rest of the Digital Press website. From our testing, it's a LOT easier to read (no more textured backgrounds) and a little faster to load (um... no more textured backgrounds).
We hope you like the change!

You can't get rid of the wood grain! Ya just can't! *sniff* I like the wood grain. Everytime I come here, I get the impression that I'm in a log cabin in the Alps somewhere. The only thing missing are skis, a fire place, the warm cocoa, and people with appendages dangling from their torso. ;)

I'd LIKE to keep it as a template - if you've noticed in your personal profile you have a template OPTION... but our tech admin "retrogmr" doesn't seem really thrilled about the upkeep of two templates (if we make changes to one he'd have to do it to the other). A petition may be in order!

I say lose the woodgrain... it takes too long to load. I just hope the new format will be easy to read... as we've learned from the Virtual Boy, one can take only so much red and black.

Understood. The text is primarily white on black, though. You'll see immediately that it's easier on the eyes at first - but I'm sure I can be the guinea pig of "extended viewing" experiments; if it's hard on my eyes it will get tweaked again.

I'm d/ling at 1.3 megs a second, so I hadn't noticed that it took too long to load :-).
Yay for free college internet!

Nah, we're okay. See, the Virtual Boy was RED and black, like Maneki mentioned. Our format is BLACK and red. You'll "see" the difference when it goes live. :D Haha, "see?"

I don't find this site hard to read at all...maybe I'll notice it when the new look comes around @_@

Well, if you can read... the LINKS for example, your eyes are far superior to mine! And I was just given the 20/20 bill of health:

Cool! I like it! And even though I have broadband Internet, I still found the old woodgrain design slow to load, especially on peak times.
Only thing: you'll have to tweak the New Topic and Post Reply buttons if you can (I dunno if you can, as they seem to be part of the software), as some white borders are visible. And I do find that it looks weird when I select a segment of the text (such as for a cut-and-paste), but that's just minor qualms. Oh, and I like the blood-red links!!!

Isn't this the *original* design of the site? It all seems so...familiar.

The black/white/reds style started about 3 months ago with the site itself (to mimic the book's color scheme), so perhaps you've just been seeing pages from the site. Now the forums will look like pages from the site - as it should be.
We CAN do a little tweaking here and there, but I think you'll like this much more. I'll let you know - I look at the forums probably more than anyone, and if my eyes start to bug out, changes will be made!

COOL. Seems the majority likes the new style. All of the mods did, as did the DP site people. For everyone else, I hate to disappoint you, but give it some time, I think you'll like it!
And as I said before, the only real recourse at this point would be to maintain two sets of styles, which I know Larry isn't in favor of.

The only thin I'd change is the background. Instead of BACK=#00000 try BACK=#000009 for a dark gray. The black background is so...blank. Like something's missing.

I think it's cool.. Getting rid of the texture made it faster.. and reading messages now looks like reading NFO files back in the good old DOS games era..

I hate to be contrary, but this is freakin killing my eyes. This is TOO black. Definitely getting a Virtual Boy throb off of it.
I guess I'll have to deal. But, I really think there should be some dividers between topics on the main pages. Right now, it all seems just like one solid page of text, needs a grid IMO.
