Some MAME questions - please help.

Okay, I'm pretty new to Mame, and I'm using Mame32 .96

Whenever I go to download a game, I'll check the "working" list first, then get it. Sometimes, when I download a known working rom, it won't appear in my "available" list. How come?

Also, what is meant by "Set 1", "Set 2", etc., of the same game? Do I need all sets of a given game to play them?

First use Mame32 .0101 it's the newer version and works better IMO.

are you downloading the game roms in the mame "ROM" folder? DO NOT UNZIP theim, also some will not work without some BOIS downloads(do a search for mame bois zips).

Set 1/2/3 ect... just means 2 and up are basically up dated version of the game or ran on differn't hardware, 1 being the first issue of the game, and yes you need the first set in most cases.

Thank you for your help, I think I understand better now.

I tried the latest version of Mame32 (the one you listed), but I had a lot of sound clipping with Mortal Kombat 1, 2, and 3. I tried to adjust the sound latency and sample rate, but no luck. So, I went back to version .96 with no problems. :(

Some older mame programs work better with certain games, I haven't tried the MK games yet, soo your on your own there. Also download the BIOS files in the mame "ROM" folder also unzip'd.

Hit F5 after you've downloaded some roms, that'll refreash the available games list.


I'm a little new at mame also soo someone else might correct me if I miss-quote something.

Thanks, I really appreciate your help. I'm going to look into the BIOS files you mentioned. In the meantime, Mame is a blast!
